Correction: tolarian academy was powerhouse undisputed and got banned and restricted for being ridiculous within a month.

I think the stupidest thing is that cards like Invoke Prejudice got delisted from price-tracking sites.

Gilded Drake is a staple in cEDH, the price climbed because more people are playing cEDH not because they are speccing on it

Guilded Drake is a creature stealer for 2 and you can do it over and over with Capsize or other Return to Owners hand.

Correction: Tolarian Academy is clearly the most powerful card from Urza's block. So powerful it was emergency banned in Type II (Standard) at the time, as well as being banned/restricted in most formats now. I would also place Memory Jar and Yawgmoth's Will ahead of Gaea's Cradle.

While I coulda bought a box of ikoria and m21, I opted for a grim monolith/ and another taiga.

Wizards said they would discontinue planswalker decks then they released 5 planeswalker decks with coreset 2021. They also stated that they were done making masters sets, now we have double masters. How wuch longer till they start reprinting reserve list cards?

Gilded Drake actually swaps itself with another creature permanently, it does not untap your lands, sadly. This is CONCRETE, (not fake, completely real) proof that Rudy does not know how to play Magic! Great content as always Rudy.

Rudy Rudy, Rudy! Have you ever imagined if they updated the Reserved List constract with "we shall not reprint those cards within 15 years from the previous printing, reprints shall be unique numbered and they may not be more than 400 each... And so we have spoken!"? Imagine if they could print 2-5 reserved list cards as masterpieces? Timmys would go nuts.

I so agree, with what you are saying about new mtg products getting as expensive or even more expensive as old school cards. Playing 93/94 mtg never was cheaper, simply because the newer products have a ridiculous price tag. I’m happy that the majority of the os cards have stabilized in price. They are unique cards and part of the mtg history. Not too long ago, I recorded a match with Elephant Graveyard and it was so cool to see an Arabian Nights Elephant deck in action 🐘

Back in the Mid 90's I worked at two Comic Book stores at the same time and have handled so many of the first MAGIC The Gathering Cases and to see what they sell for now is crazy. Those cards weren't huge sellers back in the 90's I even remember the owner of one of the stores I worked at using a box to hold open his office door, the most exspensive door stopper ever.

I played during that era when the Urza's Saga and Cradle came out. In my opinion Tolarian Academy was the real powerhouse, Cradle was just good and creature decks didn't really have a chance against Academy. There were no free creatures but Academy had Lotus Petal, Mox Diamond etc. The deck was so good it didn't have room for Brainstorm. :D

I remember when I bought my Tolarian Academy's for $20: Serra's Sanctum's and Cradle's were $5. I had playsets of all of them before I quit and sold out. I was able to buy back in around 2017 before prices went nutz.

Mana Crypt was available as part of Harper Prism's MtG book deal. Specifically, the novel Arena had the coupon in the back of the book that could be mailed in for Arena, Sewers of Estark, and Mana Crypt.

I spend my days waiting to watch Rudy walk into the shot and talk about magic.

Mana crypt was being run in the 90s in world championship decks - it was used to fuel mana with hurkyl's recall and massive fireballs. Of course those decks were expensive as hell, so you didn't see many of them, but they were hell to beat. I managed to score a tournament win against one, and never forgot the strategy.

I'm pretty sure nobody wants to hear this story except folks whom played in the 90/s. I sold you my last graded Invoke Prejudice after I did the buyout of the last card store in stock...ABUgames. I kid you not I bout 19 for about $109.00 each and there were none left in the internets . I sold you a Highly Graded Invoke Prejudice for $266.00?? Or roughly thereabouts around Summer 2017. It was my only thingamabob like that which I have succeeded in. I have played since my dad gave me a starter deck back in the summer of 1993. It was just another new game that my dad was showing me because he always showed me new board games and stuff. We all loved it accept my Mom whom usually played games with us but seemed against trying this one oddly. so I got to gift her Starter deck to my best friend. We traded so that we had enough land cards so each of us could could play without manascrew and we started really liking the game. It was based off dungeions and dragons and was a very easy game to play once you understood which number was the toughness or power and how that worked. The mana is a perfect luck dynamic. I've never encountered a more balancing game. :) We played as the original rules state=...after Revised edition. WE PLAYED FOR ANTE AND STILL DO!!! But we sign the cards and use different starter deck editions so that our friends group cannot cheap by pretending they have a card we didn't see them open and play against us. we also mark the cards when they "win us the game" with and MVC("Most Valuable Card"but we excluded basic lands) with an X so that opponents would shiver in fear as they played against a lucky draw with a lot of MVC's on the cards. It was fun but sad when you lost your best card to your buddy. Over time WOTC stopped printing "Starter Decks 60 Card/Expert 75 Card" Sealed with Lands type of randomized cards from each "Main Set". After that Magic: the gathering realized my friends and I were basically playing back and forth without spending money because we would just lose and win back and forth our anties from each other until maybe someone finally got bad mana draws enough times in a row that they would have to buy another starter deck to try and compete with their friends's best "Starter Deck". It was and still is crazy fun and takes more skill than any other format and yet also requires the least amount of skill. Everyone is Grass Valley/Nevada City california plays the game this way even now. I am pretty sure my father kinda started it, but mostly it is just super fun so folks kept on teaching their friends to enjoy the OG game of Magic: the gathering. An Ante Based Tradeable card game-The 1st I do believe. I've enjoyed it on the 1st 2 pro tours afer selling my power nine after they had been stolen and returned by the police because my older sisters boyfriend fake narked. I have had a good life even after the 39th place in the Juniors division in New York and then losing while missing Magic Mountain in the 2nd Pro Tour wave in the Northern Queen Epic sized boat in LA when the Japanese Shivan Dragon from FBB(ForeignBlackBordered) Revised Edition(that had the same timing and inking as 4th edition) was released for the first time ever available.I lost for mana screw drawing 2 double red cards in a grixis deck in game 3. It was a 4th edition Homelands sealed. absolutely dismal. Winners were playing White/Blue mill with Oysters. You can't make this shit up. Magic the gathering is a funny game and I will probably play until I die. Shout Outz to Edwin the Engineer and Desolator Magic for brightening my days. Sincerely, that one dude you could never forget.

Guilded Drake is because of EDH/Commander, more specifically the high powered and competitive players of the format. It was well known before, but now the format is simply bigger, and keeps getting bigger. A reserved list card with frozen supply and increasing demand from PLAYERS and collectors. That's the textbook formula for a expensive card.

That is not what gilded Drake does, gilded Drake exchanges control when it enters

Rudy I started investing in magic 2 years ago and have followed you religiously since then your investment advice has put me though college (well first 2 years) and I've got a large sealed position now and I want to thank you. However, I know nothing about how to invest for longterm in the newer sealed product. Could you maybe mention that in a future video! Arabian Nights is not underpriced, the staples are appropriate in value. Many cards in that set are surpassed in power in more recent sets. Ali From Cairo? Great in the day for 'negative' life win conditions, but there are many other better alternative-win options than trying to keep a 0/1 alive. Hexproof didn't exist then, indestructible didn't exist then. Banding cards in four horsemen? All deflated in value. Gaea's Gradle is an EDH ramp staple. Whereas Tolarian Academy is banned in many formats including EDH.

Gilded drake is a powerhouse in EDH (you must be mixing up cards since you didn't get the ability right either). Also yes it spiked in the last few months but it's been a $60 card for more than 2 years already... The sub $20 was back in early 2016! Hardly a newcommer

You confused Gilded Drake and Peregrine Drake. Peregrine Drake is a 2/3 flier that untaps five lands when it enters the battlefield. It's the younger brother to Palinchron and was banned in Pauper. Gilded drake is a 2 mana 3/3 flier that swaps itself with an opponents creature when it comes into play. Peregrine Drake isn't on the reserved list and has been reprinted multiple times. Gilded Drake has value for competitive commander decks but it's not worth $200. It's a solid $50 card. Someone probably tried to buy it out.

Holy slap my floppy taco! I am floored looking at these EDH staple cards!!!!!! WTF! Like $100 jumps within like a month! God I hope it’s a bubble, becaus now I have the resources to get some of these staples and they are skyrocketing! Dang, should have gotten theses reserve list cards firsts and then paid off the student debt.... well, at least I am student debt free now! Would suck to halve all that debt hanging over me and a wad of reserved lists cards skyrocketing! Now is the time to start investing in real estate, retirement, Reserve list and ETF’s ! With a clean slate and just a coup,e points under excellent credit! Your rationale on Weatherlight is a little flawed. You can get 1990 Donruss (a thirty year old box) cheap. The reason is the cards in it are also really cheap. Weatherlight at even $300 a box is a terrible buy - much less $500!
