On July 4, 1863, newspapers across the loyal United States published editorials about the role and responsibility of Americans in this time of great peril for the Constitution. One newspaper, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, called for renewed efforts to crush the rebellion and preserve freedom. Here's the message.
