Linda Vater has some really neat ideas/designs possibly for your parterre if you aren’t quite sure about what you want. Other wise the rest of your yard is well layed out. The driveway might always throw you off a bit because it’s not easy to redefine. Maybe if you remove all the gravel between the entrance/arbor & the garage & make it all garden, it would redefine the whole area & it would no longer look like a driveway. You could use stepping stones or pathway from the garage door out to your parterre & garden areas. There’s always a fun project in gardening. Never ending but fun.❤

You have done so much and it's looking beautiful! I love how you show it all...the struggles and the successes. As gardeners, we all go through that and sometimes we just have to make changes, accept that nothing will ever be perfect. Nature is imperfect in a perfect way...lol. I'm looking forward to seeing your gardens throughout the season. Your parents' garden is gorgeous, too...love the pond. I see where you got your green thumb. Yes on more rain! We need it here, too. Lots of hand watering...ugh.

you have gotten so much done in a short time, it takes a while to learn to let go of the messes and realize you can only do so much with the time you have. I have no doubt you'll have it how you want it in no time! It's looking beautiful and I love the idea of the parterre spaces with the same plants in each quad, it will look like a tapestry when it's filled in!

Just a little tidbit - I planted some annual viola seed directly in the ground 20 years ago and nothing happened. Somewhere, somehow, these last two years they have shown their cute little faces under some oak trees! I know it's them because they were various shades of lavender / pink. I guess what I learned is mother nature always finds a way here too! 😊

This gave me the biggest smile. This year I lost an ivy plant I had in a pot for 10 years. As I was pulling it out, I saw little violas sprouting and remembered I planted some seeds when I first planted the ivy. Isn’t it amazing? 💜

@HowsItGrowing
@HowsItGrowing Год назад
Thank you so much! So nice of you! I have tension wires across the fence. It was initially installed for espalier apple trees, but sadly all but one perished from fire blight. I think it might be excessive depending on the vine you are growing. I might try just screwing in some cup hooks and using thick fishing line or wire as a guide. I do this in some other areas. Clematis for example isn’t so thick it would need a lot of heavy support, but a rose gets thick heavy canes and might need more help. Thank you for being here!!

@HowsItGrowing
@HowsItGrowing Год назад
I typically use hardwood shredded mulch. I haven’t yet this season but need to. I’ve not had any trouble with carpenter ants. I think that mixture could work out well. I’ve never used gravel as a mulch except on pots, so I’m not sure. It may really dry out or deplete nutrients over time. In pots I top with gravel to retain moisture.

It’s so much information in just one video its to much. Slow down and do one video on each section and talk about what your plan is and maybe do some of it on video ?? I appreciate your feedback. Honestly, it’s all I can do right now for many reasons. Once things get more established here, I’ll be able to do more things I really want to do on RU-vid. Right now I am wanting to give updates, but simply can’t make it all work with my schedule. When my kids are at school, it’s precious time that I take to plant and get things done. I can’t devote that time to setting up tripods, microphones, and not looking like a whole mess for a video, all the editing and getting it all together. It’s very time consuming. I also don’t want to miss out on sharing, or not post at all like last year. It’s a bit of a juggle. Many other RU-vidrs don’t have small children, or they have a ton of help filming, and with garden chores, allowing them to get camera ready and do cute fun little projects. I don’t have that. And that’s ok. While others have a crew building a green house, just 2 people here did that, myself and my husband. We both work as well. And the kids will always be number one above everything. I just need to make it work until I have more completed here with the big projects. Hope you’ll stick around. 💜
