I DNF’d The Lincoln Highway last year but will likely try it again in the future. Enjoyed the First Lady Hardcastle so I’ll continue with the series. Finished “Everyone in my family has killed someone” and “Everyone on this train is a suspect”, quirky way to tell a story and loved them both! I’ve preordered his next book out in December I think. Also doing the same Summer Bingo and having a great time with it! Reading mostly library books for it in order to also participate in my library’s summer reading program. Terrific video as usual 🤗
Thank you! I keep hearing about the Everyone in My family Has Killed Someone book and need to look into it. I love that you are combining Summer Book Bingo with your library’s summer reading program - double the fun! 😁
It was me who mentioned that Antoine Laurain has a new book, “French Windows” and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.😀 I practically catapulted out of my chair when I heard he had written a new book because I love his quirky, very French style so much. 🥖Speaking of fun books to read, it’s so sad that there will never be another Sue Townsend book. I may have to reread them.
I thought maybe it was you but then didn’t want to get it wrong in the video! 😂 I just got two more of his books from Thriftbooks and can’t wait to get to them! I’m going to see if I can get French Windows from my library! And I hear you about Sue Townsend…though I still need to finish the Adrian Mole books!
It sounds like you had a great reading month! My favorite June reads were Emma M. Lion #1, The Summer of Swans, and The Hiding Place. My biggest surprise was Mastering the Art of French Murder. I had low expectations but ended up really enjoying the time period, location, characters, and the mystery.
I too did not like five red herrings, the books get a lot better when Harriet Vane turns up😅. I must read Marcia Willetts 👍, I am currently on the look out for them! I hope you have a wonderful reading month and holiday🏖️⛵
Hi Jen! Great June reads. I am adding to my TBR Looking Forward and TE Kinsey, which I already have A Quiet Life in the Country sitting on my bookshelf. I love Rosamunde Pilcher books, which The Shell Seekers is my next read, after I am done reading Within Arm's Reach by Ann Napolitano. Thank you 😊
I read my first Wendell Berry in June too! It was for my in person book club and it was one of the few books so far that every single one of us have enjoyed!
@@jensreadinglife It was Fidelity, which is a collection of five short stories. Hannah and Nathan Coulter make an appearance in several of the stories!
So glad you liked Marcia Willet. I completed reading her books several years ago and enjoyed the cozy vibe of them. Hannah Coulter is my favorite Wendell Berry. Can’t remember where I heard about The Summer Book by Tove Jansson and found this a sweet cozy read also!
Hi Jen, I finally finished moving and unpacked my books. I am so glad to see my books again. I had gotten a lot of library books in the meantime. I have not read Dorothy Whipple nor Antoine Laurain, nor Edith Wharton but I do have My Brother Michael by Mary Stewart and am reading Force of Nature by Jane Harper now. Love hearing your book reviews introducing authors I have not read before. And now I can read all my unpacked books too.
Hi Jen😊 well, I came home early from Rehab. I had an appt.w/ infec. Disease doc.Wed morn. Way too long to go into and who cares; but it was just too dangerous for my life and well being to stay there. I actually had to call 911 one time for help. I filed a complaint w/the state. Doc put me on oral antibiotics so I could go home. He was SHOCKED! Any-hoo, started Rose Cottage in ther, but due to emergencies, etc. pain med(lack thereof); I had to start it numerous times. Same since being home; only on pg.8!!! BUT, I AM going to FINISH it! So many of your recs sound SO GOOD. Am only able to use 1 hand, so couldn't write them down; will just look up again. Received one of my orders from Book Outlet😁! 11 new bks. Also ordered one from Goodwill Used to see how they were. The bk. was in fine condition, don't remember price. An epistolary, Letters From Shoe (the Scottish Isle). LOVE epistolary bks. Do you ever read Hazel Gaynor? Another fave author of mine. Discovered her umpteen yrs. ago when I read A Memory Of Violets. Have NEVER forgotten that bk. Going to buy it to add to my collection of hers. So I received The Last Life Boat by her in B.O. order. About a boat full of English children evacuating from England to Canada(?) during WW2. OK, yakked enough...thanks as usual Jen. Happy you have a reading buddy. Mine is always awol.
Oh Eileen, I hope you are doing better! You have been through the wringer this year! 🩷 I hope your books are giving you some escape and peace from your medical woes. I need to look up Letters from Syke because I love epistolary novels! And I think I’ve read one Hazel Gaynor but it’s been awhile. I will look up the one you mentioned. Sending you lots of healing thoughts and get well wishes.
Yes! I totally agree. Plus then the rest of the ending left us hanging…do the boys find their mother? I felt like such a big deal was made of her leaving them and them going to find her and then…nothing. That was disappointing.
❤📚❤️ So many books that sound amazing! I'm almost done with This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger, a perfect summer read that is hurting my heart a little.
What a great reading month for you! I have read 2 Dorothy Whipple novels (Young Anne & High Wages) and they both drew me in immediately. Isn't great to discover a new beloved author?
If you want something with similar cozy descriptions, try Thornyhold. If you’d like to armchair travel to a beautiful location, try The Moonspinners or The Stormy Petrel! I’m so glad you enjoyed your first Mary Stewart!
I just started the First Lady Hardcastle book last night! Thought it was a different book when I scrolled through my kindle but before realized I was finishing ch 1 and definitely realized not the book I thought and looked it up on Amazon 😂
I liked the Kigali book but I think your description is why… I was able to learn enough about that life without being emotionally invested or too close 🤔
Can’t wait to start the Dorothy Whipple book, just have to finish off the 6 books that I’m in the middle of reading.😮 I keep trying to only have 2 going, but I can’t do it. Loved her Greenbanks and The Priory. Struggling with My Brother Michael which is rare for me with a Stewart book.
I can’t wait to read more Whipple! I’m going to be reading Touch Not the Cat by Mary Stewart this month and I’m so looking forward to it since I last read it when I was about 19! 😁
@@jensreadinglife I started that one and am going back to it after My Brother Michael. Wondering if I will like it. I’m not really into fantasy and it starts off a little strange. But I’m going to give it a try. And I definitely want to read all of Whipple’s. They’re fiction with a little something extra. She’s such a good writer.
