For the people that don't understand Afrikaans, they said that the motor took him 4 years to build. This is a great piece of machinery and only skilled engineers are capable of building something extraordinary like this from scratch

seeing the engine run is remarkable, but for me when they showed the assembly it was fantastic. The only thing that would make it better would be to have a scale model vehicle with transmission and drive assemble that would actually drive that would show them using it as a working vehicle in scale of course. Kudos to the designers and individuals who assembled the motor and set it up to actually work.

This engine was custom built in a machine shop, and is likely one of a kind. The only way to get something like this is to buy a Conley engine or make it yourself in a machine shop. Conley's engines are preassembled, but cost $6,000 and up. You can also get rc cars from Conley that already have the engine installed. Just look up Conley engines on google and you should find Mr. Conley's website. He has an engine out now called the stinger 609 (6.09 cubic inches) V8 that is available with a supercharger.

And a fuckton of tooling, time, and patience. It's not really as easy as getting the machine and drawing it up in CAD. You have to remember that each cut has to be setup and indicated on fixturing, usually multiple times to get a nice finishing cut. Unless you've got a multi-axis in your home, machining a complete long-block v8 would take months, if not years. Even then, you can't do everything on a mill/lathe, some procedures on workpieces benefit from other methods of removing material, such as grinding.

That's amazing. Great video. I'd love to see one of these installed on a go-cart or a small motorcycle.

Gokart for sure.

The crank doesn't have any ball bearings, so I don't think it could do more than a couple runs under load.

Joseph Alukka ah, good idea, copper bushings no doubt. But would look cool either way!

+Joseph Alukka it has full pressure lubrication just like a real car engine ,,you'd be surprised at how long it will run

To me it's a hybrid between a Small Block Chevy and 427 Single Over Head Cam (SOHC) Ford. Beautiful build!

Bearing caps do not like they have enough give in them. Might be worth while to neck down the bolts so they turn maybe 1/4 turn. The bolts need to allow some stretch when the engine gets hot so they do not pull too hard as the aluminum expands and contracts. On the other hand you have built this one and I have not! ROFL I only have full sized engines to compare. You have done a wonderful job. Thanks!

Beautiful job! The work is amazing. That crank alone is a work of art. I can't believe how much negative commenting is in here though; makes me sad that so many people can not appreciate this project. I would wager that most people making these disparaging remarks have never seen a machine shop, let alone made anything more complex than a coke spoon. Using lathes, mills, grinders and precision measuring equipment is a skill that too few possess these days. And anyone that has a hobby knows that you can put thousands of dollars and countless hours into a project or leisure pursuit. Why blow shit at someone for following their passion? I imagine the personal pride and satisfaction of building this jewel is off the scale. As to not firing for the first few times...this is what it is like when trying to fire a fresh CARBURETOR engine with no know jetting specs. A brand new fresh engine light off for the first time can often give you fits. Yes if you are using a Ford/ Mope/ or Chebby, there are thousands of places to find jetting recommendations for your machine, but this is a ONE OFF, no such numbers are readily available .Fuel to air and electrons are not scalable... they got it pretty close. And a fresh build sometimes does not fire off the bat. Instead of throwing cold water on this remarkable achievement, or saying a real SBC is cheaper, spend 4 years and build your own. It looks like a great engine for the mothballed Junior Dragster or Quarter Midget. Just wondering on bore and stroke and did the builder use dedicated piston/ rods? Again, Great Job. The sound of it revving makes me smile. Thank you!

Hi Dan Thanks for the kind words. You are 100% correct. I attribute the negativity to jealousy ;) As for the first start, it is generally accepted that if you "roll your own" mini engine it could take up to a year for you to work out the kinks and get it running. This was the first attempt at getting it to run.
