Your attitude towards old books is wonderful! May as well celebrate these old books our way! As a granny and an artist, I have sheaves of papers with drawings, scribbles and marks, all artistically placed for my joy! I encouraged my grandchildren to create art and they didn't disappoint! LOL These 'masterpieces' don't deserve to sit in closets and cupboards! I use those papers as pages in my journals. I still have them, yet, they aren't sitting away in a drawer somewhere, not being enjoyed at all! Thanks!!
You’re just about the few who shares and demonstrate “how to” on this media that maintains a clean surface and ONLY have the materials needed for sharing to us your projects and ideas. I’m appreciative of your common sense. Others are just too busy in their demonstrations as if you’re looking at their trash bins. Simple is great. You’re an Artist and we all know what we have as one. We don’t have to try show off which just causes lots confusion and takes away one’s interest thinking maybe they need that much materials to make a simple project. Very disorganized to say the least. What a lovely genuine non pretentious video. I understand fully that art is art as per the individuals perspective, however, It is so refreshing to see you use “real” things as opposed to fancy papers / digitals / napkins etc that I feel so many other channels compete to use. When I watch most crafting videos it almost feels like a race as to who can do what first. I’ve been viewing the crafting community almost all day every day for a year due to being off work sick...my opinion - it is ridiculously competitive to the point I’ve even felt pressure to buy the latest of everything - forgetting the real usable things in life. My time has been mostly spent watching craft rather than doing craft because at every turn I’ve felt I’ve not had the right equipment or tools / the right paper / latest glue / latest printable etc and I got sucked in to this way of thinking that it disabled me from doing my own thing and enjoying it and cost me £1200 in a month for supplies I’ve barely used. I’m not new to crafting but a busy work schedule took over and I lost my way. I did not get these negative feelings from your video. It felt genuine, raw, non competitive, real and very relatable. You’ve pulled me right back to basics - inspired me to remove myself from the rat race and begin to think for myself about what I like, how I want things to look, what I want to make and how I want to make it regardless if anyone else made it first. I’m in the process of reviewing my subscriptions now and I’m going to remove any that I feel are overly pretentious. There are only a few I’ve found that don’t have that feeling - your channel is definitely one of them. Thank you for being true. I’m very grateful.
Hi Linnie, wow I recognise everything you said! I've always crafted and of course I love the wonderful crafting supplies we can access now. But I found the more I bought and stashed and stored and organised - the less I made. I was intimidated by the sheer volume of what was available to me. So I took a good long look at what I wanted out of crafting - let's face it, there's only so many cards you can make! I discovered 2 things. First that I have enough crafting supplies for the rest of my life and how cross will I be if I check out without having used that "special" piece of card stock I'd been saving...for what?! And secondly, I began crafting in a simpler time before we had seasonal and themed punches, stamps, colours in every form you can imagine and die cuts so I returned to that for a time. I would put black, white and kraft paper on my desk with a pencil, ruler and glue and go from there. I rediscovered my mojo :) Now I make card kit videos to challenge myself and share with others and I make junk journals to use up my wonderful stash and again, share. In my videos where appropriate, I advocate a basic kit for beginners of white, black and kraft card stock, black and grey ink pads, white, black, gold, clear and silver embossing powders and art shop acrylic paints because they offer great versatility. Outside of the kit videos, I try not to assume everyone owns a die cutter or endless inks. I try to keep to my simple rules and use what I have around me rather than promoting a particular product range. For example I have resisted buying the latest large collection of a certain ink pad because I find I don't need them. :) I want to encourage others to use their crafting soul rather than their credit cards. I totally agree with both of you! I have had many ‘phases’ in crafts over many years, so I have a hoard of items that I really don’t want to think would just be discarded when I ‘drop off the perch’ so to speak :) I only very recently discovered the craft of Junk Journals and thought that it would be a great way to combine my many craft loves, as well as a great way of using my hoarded items (I am trying to minimise my own type of ‘junk’. . . .) I then saw so many great and inspiring videos but, like both of you, I didn’t really want to either add to my stash and not use the products, or have to buy lots of ‘new’ old looking supplies so that my books would look the part. I too am an avid recycler and upcycling addict and I see the use of limited new resources as a way to stretch my creativity muscle :) I love what you said about using our crafting soul, not our credit/bank cards! :) Thank you so much for showing me that I am on the right track, much appreciated :) Love, Peace & Craftyness x

Thank you so much for your lovely ideas and the really clear way you describe your processes. I love that you don't rely on a lot of store bought kit, it was what inspired me to junk journalling in the first place. I am very new to all of this and your tuition will be very helpful and encouraging.
I'm amazed that there are any thumbs down on this or any of your videos. They are wonderful for beginners, which is who they're designed for, and the number of tips and hints and skills you teach in each one is terrific.
Sue Cox I agree. YT should just remove the thumbs down option as it is just being negative towards people who take time out of their day to make these videos for people. These type of videos are positive and encouraging. If people don't like them, they should just scroll on by. I have a deep appreciation for these wonderful YTers. 🙏
I'm (almost) speechless! These tags are BEAUTIFUL, and, as you say, use items we already have handy. I love them all, but the angled pockets tag really got my attention - clever, pretty and simple. Love the sewn leaves too. You made things look very achievable and for that I'm thankful! Now I need to find videos 1 to 4 and catch up.

I've done a bit of shopping and got my goodies together for my journal. I got some beautiful burlap material for my cover. Like several others who commented, I've just discovered your channel and have subscribed. Love your philosophy regarding giving new life to an old book. I have found it difficult to use some of the books that I've purchased for the very purpose of using them in junk journals/tags/embellishments/etc. But it's mostly because, once I get the book, I realize that it's something I'd like to have in my collection and it's hard to part with them. I am a beginner and this series is amazing and I have watched dozens and dozens but yours is my favourite...your tips are great as are your ideas, so different from others where the same idea is banded around with a slight difference....looking forward to binge watching yours now and thank you
I love how you give SO many tips and ideas in your videos along with the original instructions. May I offer a tip to you? You said your bows don't work out well. Here's a way I've learnt to make them neat: Do your tie and hold first loop like you would normally for shoelaces (left over right first for the knot) For shoe tying to create the next loop you would then normally bring the end under and towards you up and over away from you to tuck in to create the loop. Do it the opposite way : under and AWAY from you then up and over towards you. It feels wrong but you end up with a square-on bow with both ends sitting towards the bottom. I hope that makes sense.

I love the tag with 10 layers and I have never seen the technique where you sewed and then torn the paper off. I will definitely be trying it. Thanks so much for sharing. Also I love your cheerful voice.

Lol, I was brought up to value books too and had to use a bookmark rather than turn down corners so I feel your pain! Once I have bought a book to journal with - that becomes it's new purpose :) xx

Lovely tags! Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas. I love botanicals but haven't had any success in finding vintage botanical books in thrift stores near me. I'm still looking and when I find them I hope to make some ephemera as nice as the ones you've made.
From Iowa you might try Thriftbooks online. Look for vintage field guides or Readers Digest North American Field Guides. it has plants and flowers and animals and birds.

I've watched this tutorial so many times and wish I could give it a 👍🏼 each time. In fact I've watched most of your tutorials more than once. I particularly love the last tag you show, you've curled the papers over, so it looks almost furry, it even feels tactile from just looking at it, so I'm wondering if you can show how you did it please?
Hi - Glad you like this! I cut several tags smaller than each other and used my fingers to curl the edges over and layered them on top of each other. I have a plan to make a video just of these for autumn and winter. :) xx

Love your folder journal. I've made one already. Nothing to do with this video, but in past videos, I noticed you were using a special tool for picking up the sparkly jewels. The tool makes it easier to deal with the jewels not sticking to your fingers. Please tell me what the name of that tool is? Thank you.
Hi and thank you! The glycerine adds a softness to the paper. Water alone would make paper soft while it damp but once it dried out it would risk cracking. The glycerine helps prevents that. It's cheap and fun to experiment with :) xx
