"JUNK?" TRAXXAS XRT 8s Frustrations and Fixes... 

Holy crap Bro 😂. Just had a Lost Isle intoxicated flashback from the mid 90's with an ex girlfriend 🤣. Did some sketchy Delta wake boarding back then. Yeah the XMaxx is more raw fun, but the XRT does handle nicely. Kraton is still the King 👑. Love the fact it comes with real metal gears too 🚀🚀

Why do you prefer the Kraton 8s over it? Debating between the two

@@FreedomCrawler the Kraton 8s has hardened steel gears throughout and a solid foundation. It doesn't crack or split when you land on river rocks or urban debris. It's built to handle serious power and harsh use. Yes the stock chassis will bend with enough savagery, but not with an upgraded one like M2C. I do like the XRT agility being lighter, but that comes at the expense of ultimate durability. Lots of hollow cavities in the chassis frame, towers, and bulkheads. Both trucks need upgrading to reach their potential, but the K8s has greater potential by design. 🍻

@@richduperbash2966 fair enough. I just sold my Talion to pickup an XRT later this week and was curious. I had seen a modded out super clean Kraton 8S but had passed on it due to what I had read about the two and how most people were saying the Kraton needed more mods out of the box and was heavier vs the XRT which needed less and was lighter. I guess at the end of the day it’s all preference and how you drive. I really like the look of the XRT overall and want to give it a go. Probably end up with both anyways but I just want something that is fun/looks good and I can have a good time with. Much appreciated on the reply

Thanks so much for your input Brother 👊. I had planned to shim the ring gear side bearing, but shimming the input has the same effect. I've long shimmed my ARRMA diffs to almost too tight with good results as well. Appreciate your comment 🍻

Thanks so much Brother 🤗. The Sledge can take more punishment being smaller and lighter. That said, the stock motor mount is a horrible design. The cradle system doesn't work once the chassis flexes. It literally destroys gears. I've had zero issues with the M2C mount and 7075 T6 chassis 💪. The reverse mount set-up allows you to fit bigger motors no problem. Otherwise the forward facing stock setup is very limited due to the front steering post. You could probably run a 20T with the Hobbystar without heat issues if you want a bit more speed and wheelspin for better air control depending on tire size. 🍻

@@richduperbash2966 I have seen pot metal in Arrma rigs just as much as anyother manufacture. I have seen you upgrade just about everything there is to upgrade in an Arrma 8s to make it durable. I have also seen you upgrade Traxxass 8s vehicles with everything possible to make it durable. It comes down to the amount of money that it costs to upgrade these vehicles when you don't get parts for free.

Yep. There's only so many effective/proven designs. The material quality is a huge factor of course.

The factory Arrma 8s is definitely way stronger out of the box, I have no idea why m2c makes so many upgrades for them that every RU-vidr seems to run, because the factory Arrma 8s platform is just so darn tough.

But if your sending your RC over 100ft (starting point) on the regular like plenty do, those M2C upgrades were based solely on what the test team was consistently breaking.... Thats whats different about M2C, all the testers Bash the RC's they way they normally would any other RC and whatever seems to be weaknesses they make a solutions. Trust there are reasons for them. I’m being sarcastic. You said it was tougher out of the box. I just love how all of the Horizon sponsored guys shove Arrma being the best down your throat. An Arrma breaks “oh that’s my bad, you have to know the trucks limits” a Traxxas breaks “wow what a piece of junk” Just stupid fanboy mentality meant to push sales for m2c and Horizon. They all break, get over it. I own just as many Arrmas as I do Traxxas, I just can’t stand this biased crap.

I still think it's got plenty of durability advantages over the XMaxx and handles 100% better. Stoked Mitch and Avery put their magic touch on it with the epic upgrade options. Thanks Brother 🤗. I use 30 lb. rated Gorilla brand mounting tape. Basically clean the switch and mounting surface with alcohol and stick the switch down flat. Best to stick the tape on covering the sides and bottom with the bottom fold flared slightly. Allows the switch to absorb impacts and stay put. 🍻

That's tough to answer because both trucks have weak points out of the box and absolutely need upgrading to take harder bashing. The Sledge will take more punishment once the motor mount is replaced with M2C Racing 7075 T6 aluminum.

The little bearing can implode, but I've ran without one in my XRT with zero issues. You honestly don't need it because the hardened steel spur shaft and gears are WAY stronger than the stock junk.

My stock XRT about imploded the first big ramp send. Same for my XMaxx. Gears exploded, diffs stripped from the main gears locking up violently, motor mount cracked, and center driveshaft turned into a banana 😂. My K8s took an absolute hammering bone stock with big power installed. Yes I broke a suspension hanger (B block) and twisted the front chassis slightly, but she was still driving and easily patched up. I think everyone's experience is different depending largely on bashing style. The speeds are very comparable. I really switched to mod 1.5 because I was eating through Hot Racing mod 1 spur gears. These Vitavon gears have been solid 💪

There's always banter between the brands even know most guys run both. Fortunately there's aftermarket gear options available for the XRT and XMaxx. 8s rigs deserve better than cast pot metal gears. 🍻

I hear you Steven 🤗. Proper testing would've revealed the weak wing mount support, bell crank, and other shortcomings. It's clear many manufacturers trust CAD design over actual testing. Or they just don't care 😂
