I have Jury Duty Federal Los Angeles starting Tuesday , downtown . I look forward to serving . Thank you so much for explaining the process . I go in with an open mind , will ejudicate per instructions from Judge .. Our system although not perfect , is best on our planet.Ur video eases my anxiety.❤
@@FinelyRevealed it’s really cool actually. For the next year I am the first alternate for the grand jury in our city… really excited if I get a chance to serve. I definitely take that kind of thing seriously. Many people in this country don’t realize what a privilege it is to get to participate in the justice system. Thanks for asking!
I was summoned even though i have been arrested 7 times. I have a felony on my record. I was treated like a dog while i was in a county jail for a month. I am very biased against the court system.
That daily jury pay should be tax free! Since the Federal Government selectively chooses which Federal laws to enforce, i.e., the wide-open border! I will take the Federal Government seriously when that happens, when I go on Federal Jury duty next week, I will be of the same attitude!
Do I have to get a part time job or something because I’m a Over the road truck driver with financial hardship, and 40 bucks a day or even 55 bucks won’t even help.
Hi @xenium you are probably eligible to be excused because you will be far away on the date you need to appear or are scheduled to take a new load around that time. Just tell the jury coordinator and see.
Hi BRay - each court is different so you might call and ask- if you have dietary issues such as hypoglycemia you can bring food with you to have during the day. Our juries go out to eat or home for lunch during the trial. During deliberations our juries food is brought in for them and paid for by the court's budget. Food is allowed to be brought in by jurors and kept in their jury room for breaks.
My Husband got summoned for federal court we live almost 300 miles from the courthouse, Is this normal? It is extremely inconvenient for a family with a bunch of kids with school. He may have to travel down the day before. Very Costly having to take off work for so many days and it's not just one time it's over and over throughout the month
Hi @Mar it sounds like he is being requested for service on the grand jury - they meet regularly for an extended period of time. Some districts will pay for hotel to arrive the day before in addition to daily attendance and mileage fees. There does not appear to be a standard that is applied among all the federal district courts. Best suggestion is for him to contact the jury coordinator directly.
Hi @CW The only time you should not share is when you are being summoned for grand jury duty as those proceedings are to be held in confidence. Telling you are going to regular jury duty in general is fine- but don't disclose the case until the Judge okays it. Good question!
Hello my wife may have to serve but my concern is she has something call C.F.S/ME and anxiety, in stressful situations can put her in bed for days she still works but she no longer able to drive so family members are son's help out taking her to work. why should my wife be put though this trauma we have documents but they still Michigan ockland county said you can serve
The jury coordinators have the discretion to grant continuances or excuse certain people from service. There is no reason this should be stressful. She just has to show up and most likely will be there in a room with others sitting for an hour or two and then let go. She also has the opportunity if she is called to a courtroom to possibly be empaneled on a jury to give the information to the judge nad attorneys who can excuse or strike her at that time.
@@FinelyRevealed I don't have transportation to court. I sent the court proof that the cheapest 70 mile one way Lyft/Uber was $90. I have to call in for 5 days. They refused to Excuse me. I see courts complaining about people simply not showing up, how is burdening those that do respond with excessive financial difficulty helpful? I plan to call in every evening, then calling in the morning to let them know I still don't have $180... Like the lady above, I also have anxiety and IBS. I have had 4 hours sleep in the last 3 days since this began...
Hi @PacersFanForever1 Yes - if they have been diagnosed then they are being treated and/or are aware of methods to focus. There are many breaks in a jury trial for the jury to allow for walking around, eating etc. It is only the lawyers and their staff who work nonstop.
A felony is basically defined as a violation of law that has a punishment of time in jail or prison for a year or more. There are state laws that are felonies and federal laws that are felonies.
HI @Zayyy likely not because federal court is very formal- but please reach out to the jury coordinator/the clerk to be sure. You don't have a pair of khakis or black dress pants? Maybe you can borrow some just for the day
