I live paycheck to paycheck. We have a 3 year old. I have been summoned to serve a week long trail. I am missing a week of work. My girlfriend has to miss the week too seeing how she has to stay home and watch our son. This is going to wreck my life. I won’t be able to afford rent. I’m honestly so stressed idk what’s gonna happen.

on my paper it said i can't be excused even if I'm a student but I can use the excuse of jury duty to miss school 😭

Same here. I filled out the online thing and put that I’m a full time student, yet I was approved. I literally can NOT miss a whole week of classes. Especially since it’s towards the end of the semester. I guess I’ll just have to call there. Students should automatically be excused. Idk why they aren’t.

@@bendover2790 You will be able to tell the judge the first day if you’re lucky. There you can tell him you’re a full time student and he should excuse you. He did for me. I didn’t bother with online because i felt like they would deny me. I also had no idea how long the trial would be, if it was short i probably could’ve knocked it out, but then they told me it would be a very very lengthy trial which would put my entire semester in jeopardy so i had to reschedule.

It only took 1 hour? That's so lucky, when I was summoned I had to wait for 8 hours only to have my name not get called! Then again, I live in a big city where there's a lot going on, seems like you live in a more rural area where there are probably fewer trials.

Same. I live in NYC. Got there at 8pm and it was already packed. They let us out at 12 so we could go eat something. I bought a hot dog. Then went back in and was there till around 630 only to not get picked. It was a nightmare.

@@KoolKeithProductions Ugh, that sucks. I live in Seattle, we had to be there by 830 then they let us leave around 4 ish, so I was there about 7.5 hours. I couldn't imagine sitting in that waiting room until 630! At least the waiting room had a nice view of the city.

@@agthegoat26 Damn I got jury duty on Monday but it seems we were put on standby so I gotta log in to the Juror Portal tomorrow for further instruction. Personally, my big fear is that I'll be on some sort of big case that drags on for ages.

This week 52 years calling the phone number for possibly jury duty. It never ends unless you get a legal life excuse as as some type of law enforcement job . Never been on a jury . What waste of time . There no age exemption only death .

@@Syorbic Pretty boring. I sat there for 2-3 hours until they called me up. The vibe I got was that they only wanted people who were willing to take it seriously. They were very lax with exemptions and wanted volunteers first and foremost. The worst part was driving to the place it was held at. Lots of traffic.

@angelinaramon did you have a high juror number? I have to go in tomorrow and my anxiety has been kicking my ass since I received my summons in the mail. I literally have been crying all morning 😩 I saw a few videos and things online that said juror numbers 1-20 are usually selected and I have a juror number of 633 but I have no idea if that's actually true or not

Absolutely a nightmare 😂 sat there for 6 hours Monday and Tuesday and then got sent home after not being chosen and they payed us $15 both days 😭

My brother just received that letter and I'm laughing my ass off. I keep going into detail how inconvenient the process is going to be from the second he leaves home to go there to the second he gets back. This is so much fun for me. I have an entire month of reminding him he got jury duty.

You can check with your local courthouse online. They will have a link to a blank form that you can fill out and bring with your or they will have copies at the courthouse when you arrive.

@@emmjay5821 I was a little nervous, but everything went well. Everyone was nice and even cracking jokes on how people hating being selected and the pay stuff. They called me in for Thursday and luckily, I wasn't picked. Easy $30 for 1 hour or so. 😄

Hey man i have a question when they send yu the second warning jury duty do you need to go on the date they tell yu on the paper or yu need call to make sure Yu need to go or not or how this works im i little confused because today in the morning i check the mail and I got my second warning

There should be instructions for the steps you need to take. I would recommend showing up on that date unless notified otherwise.

A person should not have a right to a trial by forced jurors. They should only have a right to a trial by willing jurors. People should not be forced to participate as jurors. Some people have religous objections to participating on a jury. Jesus said judge not lest ye be judged. If they want more people to volunteer as jurors all they have to do is increase the money the jurors get for their services. Forcing people to participate goes against our right to religous freedom. Jury "supposed" duty notices always get me way distressed, because they say you're not excused for religous reasons. Which means our religous rights are being trampled.

My job is more important than jury duty. I'm not going to sit and listen to a story for $5 while at my real job I get little over 19 an hour plus get to to do overtime for extra money. I'm going where the money is at. Even minimum wage job you'll get paid more doing that than jury duty. It's a waste of time.

It MAY qualify as an excuse if you are a full-time high school or college student and you are in actual attendance. I would suggest verifying this with your local county courthouse. www.dallascounty.org/departments/juryservices/juryserv-exempt.php

generally yes, or at least I think it depends. I was selected but was dismissed once they started to weed people out because my classes would start on the same day as the trial.

carlitos ducoing I believe the first stage is a random drawing. They drew 50 names out of 197. Then the actual interview process starts to choose 12 jurors.

If I wear a hat for the very first day is that ok? I mean if we go to the actual court it will be off. I work right down the road and am required to wear one for advertising. I was just going to walk up.

@@user-tc4xy6jl7o it rly wast that bad i just went, waited for the judge to come in he drew some names out of random i wasn’t picked and the jury duty i went to was a grand jury and if you are picked to be a grand jury you have to keep going back once a month for the next 6 months thats only if your picked tho if your not picked to be a grand jury then you dont have to go back anymore….if its a regular jury duty you just go in the call names at random and if your picked you just go for that one day whichever day they tell you and if your not picked then your done you dont gotta go back good luck bro
