Did you know the i4 and i5 motors found in the Colorados, Canyons Hummer H3's and even the Isuzu I series have a buligger and older cousin?
The Atlas line of motors came in 5 different flavors. the 2.8l and 2.9l four cylinder, the 3.5l and 3.7l offball 5 cylinder. and the 4.2l inkine 6 cylinder found in Trailblazers, Bravadas, envoys and even some Saab's.
With some parts from H_E_A_T_Machine(ig), a little bit of wiring and tuning you could have 40% more hp living under your hood.
Don't get me started about adding a turbo...

That’s how the Canyon should have been from the factory right ? I don’t know why the manufacturers can’t see the obvious.

I still have my 2011 Colorado with the 3.7 five-cylinder. I bought it brand new in April 2011. 125,000 miles and still running great. But man! Swapping to a 4.2 six-cylinder would be AWESOME!!!

Why in the world couldn’t GM see this perfect application when they designed these trucks? You couldn’t give me a 5 cylinder.

Yea dunno. The h3 could have really benefitted from the i6 and likely would have sold more. Colorados and canyons are lighter in comparison to other midsized trucks but maybe they hoped to sell more v8 models. Honestly the fact it's so close suggests this will be a more likely swap candidate as more of the 5cyl motors die.

Do you know if he plans to sell a complete swap kit when he figures everything out? That would be great because I want to swap a 4200 into my Canyon as easily as possible Sir.

There really isn't much of a kit to make. You adapt a few hoses lines and wires and fab the rest.

@@BadlandIndustries Well I mean like the motor mounts and the oil pan. I want to take a 4×4 manual transmission regular cab and turn it into an all wheel drive "Syclone" if you will. I'm not interested in swapping a V8 into it. I want a supercharged I6 instead of a turbo V6. I'm thinking about naming it a Chevy Twister. Just take off all the GMC emblems and replace them with bowties, or I could use a Colorado and swap a Canyon grille onto it. What do you guys think?

@mr.jace.t.97 just go directly to the companies that make the parts. Hit up Francisco for his mounts. Hit up emtech for the pan. Talk to Jeremy at limeswap for the tune. Because this is so nuanced of a swap there's not much support just yet.

I couldn't tell if this setup allows an electric fan in front of the motor. I didn't see one.

There's very little room. Both fans he has are in front of the condenser.

I was bummed he didn't have the maf scaling just right, or we could have driven it. 3500# and nearly 300hp. Can't wait to see this with a turbo on it.

@@BadlandIndustries I’ve done a deep dive , basically need a 08 and up 4.2 same reluctor on crank as 07 3.7l . I’m finding the 4.2 L 08 for around $1400 and there’s gobs of them.

@@LittleDiesels-H3 yea I'm trying to learn about the tuning side. Hardware makes sense to me. I am however concerned about the 08 sensors being canbus and not able to talk with the pre 08 trucks. Trying to learn a workaround for that. I'm assuming it'll be as simple as running a 06/07 harness with some repinning. Or maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

Does the 3700 not make really good power too though? I heard they handle in excess of 15-20 psi

They run good but I think the balance shafts are the Achilles heel. If those bearings give out you're launching a rod through the side of the block.

@@nuts5388 I have an oil line that mechanically improves oil flow to the back of the motor but usually guys don't change their oil overj enough and the crankcase vent gets clogged and they get sucked dry. Clean engine properly maintained should be fun with 8-10psi reliably.

@@BadlandIndustries I see. I’ve heard the stock bottom end can handle much more than that, what kind of mods would I need to do to push 600+ bhp

@@nuts5388 I wouldn't punch the 5cyl too hard. If packaging is an issue I'd run the 4cyl, delete the balance shafts and turn that thing up.
