I can understand if you have no choice but anyone who willingly chooses to travel at this time can't be suprised at this outcome. I personally would never willingly put myself in a situation where I am at the mercy of incompetent airline/government employees enforcing pointless rules and regulations. A vacation is supposed to be relaxing and not spent waiting in lines, missing flights and trying to find the luggage that was lost. Ill drive to my destination or just stay home and relax.

People book their flights weeks and months ahead of time and most people would imagine the Pearson issue would get resolved in a timely manner. But no. Air Canada and the Liberal Party of Canada never did their homework before! Not acceptable. I never got my refund from Air Canada when Covid restrictions came in (2019).

So how many bags are being stolen? I do not fly and if I did I would probably go to the states to do so. I flew once and got soaked from the water coming through the front window of the cockpit. Very small airline that went out of business years ago.

Just went through pearson. Waited 3 hours for my bag. They lost my childs car seat. Staff was rude and didnt care. It was horrible. I will never fly to this airport again
Now I may be wrong here, but I believe the airlines are legally responsible for the luggage and its contents. After a reasonable time period, if that luggage has not been found, I believe the traveller has a legal right to file a claim for the luggage and its contents with the airline, and if the airline refuses to pay, they could be sued. They cannot blame the baggage handlers or the airport... well, they can but it doesn't really matter, as the traveller's contract is with the airline. The airline is using the services of the baggage handlers as an "agent" (a defacto employee), so they still remain legally and financially responsible. Now, if every single person/family who has lost luggage hammered the airlines with claims for thousands of dollars in lost clothing, jewellery, skis, golf clubs, fishing equipment, I suspect it would not take very long for changes to happen, because the airlines would be looking at claims well into the millions of dollars at this stage. And if they refuse to pay and things go to court, then punitive damages could be laid on top of those damages. And where is Transport Canada in all of this? They are responsible for the regulation of the airlines and the airports in Canada, and clearly something is badly broken. What are they doing to fix it?
I totally agree with your assessment. We MUST fight back with lawsuits. A class action suit should also be included for the torment this has caused so many paying customers who bailed them out with tax funds. Airlines are trying to mimic Ryanair’s business model, but they’re obviously failing miserably. Despite the inconvenience to passengers, that airline does not transfer baggage on connecting flights. You have to retrieve it yourself and put it on subsequent flights. Ryanair is not among the airlines infuriating the public with stupid management. Air Canada will pay for their cold-hearted profit grab with millions of dollars in lost future business, and cause their own demise, and this time, there will be no help from taxpayers.
After this ridiculous mess, none of the airlines had better come forward begging for hand-outs, because they should be given nothing. They created this mess through a mix of poor management planning and execution. Again... where is the regulator - Transport Canada? They threw the proverbial book at the American airlines that were routinely and knowingly over-booking seats on flights. Isn't over-scheduling entire flights when you know you don't have the staff even worse? Interesting that both Air Canada and West Jet scored as 2 of the very worst airlines in North America for the percentage of major delays and cancellations on their N.A. flights. Pretty sad!!!!
Thank God! 3 days after my landing got my bags delivered home. Looks like it got stuck @ Frankfurt, arrived late. If it's among these loads of bags , definitely wud have taken few more weeks😵

And that’s one of the reasons I became a “minimalist” one bag carry on traveler. Whether I travel for six days, or six months, I carry only one small convertible backpack, 35 litres or smaller, and one crossbody small sling bag. I pack only what I absolutely need and will use for sure. One bag minimalist carry on travel is the way to travel. That way, you never have to check a bag. You never have to worry about who is handling your luggage. You never pay checked baggage fees. You never have to worry whether or not your baggage got put on the wrong plane. You never have to wait at the baggage carousel hoping your luggage shows up soon. You never have to worry about your baggage getting lost. When the plane lands, you grab your backpack from under the seat or out of the overhead, and you go. You can ignore the baggage carousel and all the other people waiting for their stuff to show up. You don’t have these problems, because you continue to wear your small sling bag, and your small convertible backpack never leaves you. You carry it on the plane with you and it goes under the seat in front of you, or into the overhead. When I fly….for a six day trip…or a six month trip to south Asia, I never check a bag. I never have the problem these people are having. Most people simply bring too….much….STUFF ! I used to carry a 45 litre bag……but often was made to check it. Then I went smaller to a 35 litre bag…and I’ve always been allowed to carry it on with me. Now I’m trying to go even smaller….21 litre. There are girls who have a RU-vid channel who travel the world for ,any many months at a time…using ONLY 17 LITRE BAGS. I can’t go that small. 21 litres is minimum for me. But I admire those girls for going so small. Minimalist….one bag…. Carry On. Never check a bag, never pay baggage fees, never worry about lost luggage. Grab your bag and go….much less weight, quickly and fast….and feel more free from all that STUFF. 👍🏼👏🏼😀🙂

I fly at least 30-35 times a year to the US and back and can tell you the problem with the baggage is due to the "stranding" of passengers on the plane waiting to get off. This occurs due to the back log in Canadian Customs but while the people wait patiently on the plane their luggage is still offloaded and then piles up in baggage. If they did not unload the luggage until the passengers are allowed off it would be a normal wait at the carousel and the the passengers can grab their own luggage and leave the airport. The predicament right now they have to search the entire baggage area and have luck on their side. I personally have an Apple Air Tag and can confirm my bag(s) are at the airport and narrow down the location within the airport,
Yep, I am not touching Canadian airlines until this clown show ends. I'll take the bus or the train, don't care how much longer it takes. At least I'll get there with my possessions intact.

Absolutely disgraceful!! This country has become worse than a banana republic with this government in charge. It's not just this crap at airports, but the utter nightmare people that have applied for passports so long ago are going through right now with many missing trips, ... or the stress of almost missing trips because of this nonsense.
