It's not really savage at all - it is just normal British humour - no-one is allowed to sit smugly on a pedestal thinking they are great, and getting everyone around them to confirm it - even if it should be true. It keeps people grounded, and David pretends to be slightly annoyed whilst secretly loving it; hence why Paul Merton quickly grounds the praise on Michael Sheen with comparing him to floor polish (the Sheen brand). This show does do savage - but that is usually reserved for politicians who really deserve it!
0:55 so fun fact; Michael deadass used to read Good Omens fanfics before he got the role of Aziraphale. I don’t think he has confirmed or denied that he still does.
I just know I saw a tweet where he confirmed it as a classic when someone tweeted at him whether he'd read... a classic fic, author got harassed and quit, named something akin to Brackish Water but not that because that's obviously a bad name. I don't know whether the fic was written pre- or post- the show, unfortunately.
I love that the role of aziraphale and crowley aren't characters it's just michael's and david's normal personalities and interactions but amplified and made slightly more gay

Just re-watching Good Omens at the moment, and I really didn't need to watch this to pick up on the bromance between these two. It's obvious they had too much fun working together.
My favorite actors to see together are David Tennant with Michael Sheen, Maya Rudolf with Kristen Wiig, Oscar Isaac with Pedro Pascal, and Patrick Stewart with Ian McKellen.
