He didn't "throw it away". It's just he loved the lavish life more than he loved football, and when football tried it's hardest to make him suffer on his last year on Atletico it's understandable that he would call it quits. Not everyone that is talented loves football the way fans does.

Poverty is a big factor to the greatest players, it puts drive into men from young. Dani didn't know about that feeling
@gicacoca
@gicacoca 3 года назад
Correct. I've tried for a while remembering the greatest football players, all became great because they knew how hard life was when they were a kid. Some were literally living in poverty such as Rivaldo. Maradona, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo (Brazilian), Rivaldo, Eusebio, Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Romario, E'too, Drogba, etc were all poor when they were young. All these players knew they must succeed in football to have a better life. Dani knew he did not need to succeed in football to have a better life. Therefore he did not have the motivation and focus to triumph in football.

That's cuz Ronaldo lived childhood as poor boy in a low middle class family. CR7 lost his father at young age too. His conditions made him hungry for success to provide his children the childhood he dreamed of. Ronaldo was a man on a mission. His goal was to be the best at what he does and provide the best life for his future family. Look at him today, he achieved his goal (well, he's not the best but definitely second best after Messi). I respect CR7. This is what real men should aspire to be. Be hungry to succeed, be humble to lead, be perseverant to defeat, be hopeful in deceit; these are the qualities of CR7. A player our children in the future may not hear of, but his legacy will be echoed by us... his audience.

Well he certainly didn't choose happiness over wealth. Everything he did and liked had exclusively to do with having a lot of money. He got angry with the management because they want to reduce his wages, which meant he couldn't spend thousands of Euros every day for parties and pleasures has nothing to do with pure happiness. That comes from within yourself. Dani's satisfaction however came exclusively from the superficial outside world ...

He just wasn't interested or never fell in love with the game like how you're not interested in baseball or some other sport you're not watching. Same thing except Dani developed well at football and was surrounded by the lavish lifestyle all his life. You can't blame him for not loving the sport cause his perspective was different than the ppl who had love for the game. He was in love with the lavish lifestyle / fame more than the game plus ppl were making him into a Villain at the end and making his life miserable? Of course he'd retire cause why would he go through hell for something he has no love for? Ronaldo would've been the next one if he didn't have love for the game. Luckily for us, he did.

Check this one out. I am from Lisbon and although i never met Dani, i knew some of his friends. His stories were legendary. The best in my opinion happened in London. Dani was partying in a club, drunk out of his mind, when a small blond girl started seducing him. He says good bye to his friends and walks out with her and checks in a hotel near by. They spend the night in the room, and she leaves in the morning while he stays there sleeping the day away. When he wakes up he notices that all his friends tried to call him multiple times. He calls back to one of them that immediately starts asking him about the night. Dani finds it odd, because to him it was just an other night in the town as usual, he was not understanding what was all the fuss about. Then him friend tells him: dude, you left the club last night with... Kylie Minogue!!

Story reminds me of my cousin.. Absolutely gifted footballer and was the guy that all the local clubs tried to hijack.. This was back in the 90's in Ireland .. But I can remember one club actually offering to pay the insurance in his car for a year if he joined..That was a big deal, as nobody got anything for joining clubs then.. You were lucky to play at all and that was that.. That same year if I remember correctly he got called for trials to the Irish national team... I met him a week after the trials and asked him how he got on, he said I'm not playing anymore... Went off and did a plastering apprenticeship... His brother told me, he just wanted to play a bit of football but didn't want all the phonecalls and people chasing him down kinda thing... I've never seen him with a football since.. I've never even asked him anything about it..

Having watched the video, i feel it played out as it had to. He's not the first footballer to love partying and he was young when he found fame. He put the required effort and dropped down to the 2nd division, something that no star would choose to do. If Athletico treated him as he claims, I can't blame him much for giving up on the sport. Unlike most, he had other options and could be just as well off without the sport that had probably turned toxic for him. Would be cool if he'd take part in charity matches like soccer aid or so
@blakebrown534

He didn't drop down to the second division, he chose to be on a 2nd division team that was on the brink of going to the first division and that was the last place he played so it sounds like it was probably the only place he was getting offers from as well.
