Excessive prices for drugs that long ago have expired patents is abuse. Stop referral spiffs would be a great start. A cap on bonuses to Pharmaceutical company executives would be another start.

Senator Kennedy is right. I feel like Office of The Senate Majority Leader has been stretched, several times over, since the days of LBJ in the 1950s. Certain measures should be placed on the calendar within 3 days upon written notice of a majority of the US Senators to the Secretary of the Senate, who shall notify the President of the Senate and all Senators. Areas where i place concern: 1. Presidential Nominees. The ones that have the highest priority include Cabinet Officers, Supreme Court Nominees, and especially a Vice Presidential vacancy. (Whats to prevent the Senate Majority Leader from blocking a Vice Presidential nominee of the opposite party from having a floor vote? ) ; 2. Any type of bill or treaty; 3. Proposed Constitutional Amendments, such as term limits on Congress; 4. Impeachment Hearings; 5. Treaties for Consideration. If a Majority Leader is absent, then the Majority Whip shall act in his/her place when the bill is on the floor. A future Senate Majority and Minority Leader could recieve other perks, in exchange for losing some authority in the Calendar. For example, why cant the Senate place the Leaders as exofficio nonvoting members of all Standing Committees? Reguardless of their tenure as Leader, they rank at the bottom of the seniority ladder on the committees, while serving as nonvoting members on the Committee.

TRANSPARENCY is all that is needed. Post on a website all information regarding the Senate and House in a manner that all citizens can have access to it. Libraries and internet services should also be able to educate us on the events so that the connection to Senators and Representatives can be strengthened.
