There may be plenty of experts on RU-vid, but I'm not one of them! I am however, an avid DIYer though, and as such have done a lot of projects "for the first and last time" with varying levels of success. An early one that left an impression on me was when my boss asked me add a two stall addition to her barn when I was 16 years old. I'd never done much construction, but I looked at the existing pole-barn, and designed a small addition following its construction methods and handed my boss a list of materials to purchase, at which she said "no way I can spend that much - cut that down by at least two thirds!". So, I did, and the result *looked* like a barn at least... I later learned that while my addition held up the rain and snow loads just fine, the roof on my addition carried away in the first really serious wind storm a few years later! No horses were harmed in this failure, but it did teach me to spend a little more time thinking about worst cases! When I think about those tanks full of water nestled under your cabin sole, I find myself a little concerned about where they'd go in a roll-over, or getting bashed around in the rolling forties! You two are doing a great job on this ambitious rebuild, keep it up! Here's some food for thought: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wcUk0RDMpNI.html

Hey Stu, there are 2 sorts of expanding foam available: the cheap one, that needs aircontact (to be exact: air-moisture contact) to harden. This one is used on construction-sites if you want to fill a gap that has aircontact on all sides. What you was trying to do (to fill the inside of a bag with NO aircontact) you HAVE TO use 2K Foam otherwise it will never ever harden. These bottles usually have a rotating bottom of the can. By rotating that "knob" you break out the hardening component INSIDE the can, than shake it good and spray. This will fill your bag . . .the other will not. Another tipp: for creating a foam-wedge you should NOT shoot against an empty tank ! The expanding foam will force a massive dent into your empty tank or will force the tank out of its enclosure. So: make a "dummy" of your tank-bottom out of a very sturdy piece of wood (better) or fill your watertank completly BEFORE placing the bag under it and BEFORE pressing that button! A good idea will be to stand on the tank while the foam expands because (professional PU-) foam pushes with a force of 70 (!) TONS until it had fully cured !!! Good luck and best regards from Berlin, Germany

Only just discovered this channel. Love it. Sense of humour and great narratives from two great characters. From an earlier episode I remember......you guys in Rouen trying to open a box of bolts. Stuart said: "We are in a city, there should be someone around with a switchblade". That was fun, at least for me. And the sheep...in Holland we use them as lawnmowers also, others as food. And, as the wolf returned to my country, they like sheep as well. Jeremy Clarkson, he had something to do with sheep in season 1, will be back on Amazon Prime with season 3 of his "Clarkson's Farm. Looking forward to that. And.....I sailed wooden sailboats all my life. Wood is honest.

That idea with the expanding foam is not too bad. It is actually being used like that already, and prefabricated bags are available. But for your intended purpose they are of no use. Since they are *expanding* they will push up the tanks with some force..

Lots of good jobs done while alone, I missed her too. Someone’s good idea for sheep to keep the grass and weeds down, although they do leave little messes about. The one sheep in the little flock with the bell is called a “bellweather”. It is a leader the rest of the sheep will follow so they will stay together, they each really like being part of the flock. Also, out in the larger fields and pastures, the shepherd can more easily track them. Love your show.

Nice work Stu, as usual!! Nothing wrong with using expanding foam around your tanks but, if it’s not too late, make sure that you are using "closed cell" expanding foam that won’t absorb moisture and, ideally if you can, fill your tanks with water before applying the foam so that it doesn’t compress the sides of the tanks. The cheap bog standard expanding foam will absorb water and, aside from being a nice place to cultivate rot next to any timber, it will stink as the moisture in it grows all sorts of fun cultures.......

Hi. Good work! I think you would benefit from having a solid 5x10cm beam in between the two white tanks. I think the floor on top later will get less flex compared to just having a beam on either side of the tanks? Keep the good work going!

Stuart, making progress from that stage is hard, but finally we can start to see it. I just wonder why you leave the plywood uncovered/treated. From its looks I would guess it's ordinary plywood, not water resistant. In contact with water the floors and what else is from plywood will disintegrate in no time if you don't protect is adequately. Best would be a layer of fibreglass/epoxy, or several, to make the floors structural.

We agree 👍 Get it all in place, then cover it. Hopefully we can seal up the wood. Cheers for watching 🙂
