After the SNP MP announced last week she'd be standing down at the next election, let's have a look at some of her best contributions in the Commons. Subscribe to our new podcast now, or you're a silly goose: linktr.ee/pubcast
In just one Parliament (in fact in one year) we will Loose both Mhairi from the SNP and Caroline from the Greens. Two of the most impactful and special MPs I have Ever seen in Parliament. Holy hell! what is this palace of Democracy for if not to KEEP such wonderful people and give them the power to help fix this broken country. This is one of the saddest moments in the BREXIT insanity that is rapidly destroying Britian, I am in tears over it.
On The News Agents podcast, she called Westminster "one of the most unhealthy workplaces you could ever be in" and "a toxic environment". I figured that must the reason. Imagine having to deal with those arseholes on a daily basis!
Having to deal with so many porkie pie telling toss pots? must feel like banging ya head against a wall all the time, is no wonder a lot of people including myself do not bother to vote anymore.
@@Tao_Tology-I’ve no idea which part of the universe you live in but there’s an almost complete blanket ban by the UK MSM of anything to do with the SNP unless it’s derogatory FYI there was an independence conference in June this year and the next GE will be treated as a referendum on independence
She is a passionate fighter for the working class. Don't think we have seen the last of her.I wish her all the best in whatever she chooses to do next.😊😊😊😊
@@bigbinji6145so, what has she said that isn't true. I've seen her a few times, and not heard her say anything that is dishonest . Maybe you can provide a quote, or a link to a quote from her, lying. Thanking you in advance
@@terryhurley3568 a male multiple rapist attacks two 'real' women .....and Mhari continued to spout the biggest lie of the century that....''Isla Bryson is a woman'' Showning no respect whatsoever to his two victims.
An absolutely brilliant public voice and advocate of the man and woman on the street. Scary thing is I am at a loss to think of another MP anywhere near her standard when it comes to representing the electorate and it's unlikely we are going to get anymore like her.
The more I hear from Mhairi Black the more optimistic I become, for Scotland at least. I think she's a future leader of the SNP and potentially a future first minister of Scotland. She speaks truth to power with passion and wit. She's extraordinary.
@@alice1374'Pestminster' as you allude to is light years above the swamp that is Westminster and will succeed in securing Scotland's future with independence. Soar Alba. 🏴
One of the reasons she could be standing down is that no matter how conscientious or how honest you are in Westminster no one is listening. The place is totally ineffective. She has tried but it is a pointless place especially for the SNP.
It has a wider strategic point for the SNP. They have been the only party whose MPs normally speak about Scottish contexts and Scottish affairs, to voice Scottish concerns or Scottish priorities. For generations, Scotland’s MPs were there solely as political cannon fodder for the London hierarchy’s priorities - their careers prospered or failed according to how slavish they were as votes in the lobby and how they toed the London line. They were directed entirely by party leaders who either who knew nor cared nothing for Scotland or who - like Brown - bent over backwards to erase the existence of ”north Britain” in parliamentary, governmental and public consciousness.
She's brilliant. Show's you how messed up our system is that the kind of person should be doing that job is forced out by all the sewage that shouldn't be given that power and influence.
ever since her maiden speech ive loved this lass , im old enough to be her dad , and she is happy to be a lesbian , but i love her fire , her voice echoes so many of the thoughts most of us have , yeah i do love her spirit ,
Easily one of Scotland's best politicians. She'll be sorely missed. I really hope she runs for the Scottish parliament, but I wish her nothing but happiness and peace given the work she did and the toxicity of her workplace. She did amazing holding the Tories feet to the fire :)
@@blitzerblazinoah6838. She is one of the very best politicians in the whole of the U.K. Despite the sad fact that the standard of honesty and accountability is dismally low she shines like a shining star in the morass that we have in Westminster at the moment. She shone a light into the swamp, she held despicable charlatans to account ~ she will be sadly missed.
Nae guid there! The Scottish Parliament is just an extension of Westminster. A fraudulent attempt to hoodwink Scots that Parliament reconvened. The Parliament of Scotland simply adjourned in March 1707 and is still pending it's next meeting with or without the permission of Westminster.
She’s just brilliant. So proud to have her as my MP. I hope she goes into the Scottish Parliament in the future and that we don’t lose her from politics all together.
You are lucky. I'm a huge admirer of hers. I get giddy with excitement when I find another clip of speaking. I'm Irish but MB just puts across most of my views on politics and life so eloquently in a, way I never could. I love her views and observations and she is quite poetic to listen to.
I love this woman so much, and despite her being a lot younger than me, I really admire her. I'd be so proud if any of my children grow up to be as strong willed and principled as she is. She's done such a good job, and I'll be sad to see her go.
it is sad that she feels like she has to stand down because of what she has to put up with she is one of the best MPs i have seen if only there was more like her
@@Jimmie16Scotland no longer wishes to suffer the consequences of privileged, incompetent toffs from Oxford and Eton Universities who have no interest in developing a prosperous society other than the greed, lobbying, stealing from the public purse and catastrophic policies enforced by these parasites on normal citizens. To think that Scotland wishes to tolerate Tory Tyranny any longer is mindless.
I may not agree with the SNP's policies but from her maiden speech in the House, Mhairi Black has been a beacon of hope and I can say that if Tony Benn was in this parliament he would approve and be very supportive of Mhairi. She will be missed and this country needs more of her ilk.
Mhairi Black is, hands down, the best politician in the UK. Its so sad that our dated system, outdated MPs and our toxic culture have forced her to leave. I wish her well.
Mhairi being brilliant! It seems she's ended up asking herself what's the point? What's the point of Westminster and its detached insularity? Why take all the foul abuse she gets when nothing changes, while Starmer's crew simply trumpet no hope, more of the same? There is a point, of course, but it's not at Westminster. It's not what they say that counts, but what we do.
Wow she's a great speaker who has a great grasp or reality and empthacy for the ordinary person in the street, she certainly cut through the political bull..and the house hates someone who tells it like it is,, and not how the house trys to bullshi£ the person in the street, shes a great loss to the house, and I wish her well.
A fabulous woman who speaks with honesty for the average Joe. If I lived in her constituency I would vote for her, It’s a crying shame she is leaving Parliament. Best of luck to her wherever she goes.
Thanks for this compilation of someone who speaks the truth and simply has had enough of Westminster politics. I am sure we have not heard the last of Mhairi Black as she takes time off from the dysfunctional House of Commons. No matter how hard she tried to call out the misery being inflicted in these current times, we need more Mhairi Black's to speak up on our behalf9.
Not for much longer...though it's still going to feel like an eternity. Mhari Black and Priti Patel: They could mark the two end-points on the scale of the quality of an MP.
The reason you shouldn't tolerate the blanket condemnation of young people is because you're a reasonable, logical person. Your reason is a terrible reason. The fact that 20+ people have thought your reason worthy of an upvote is quite worrying.
You can mind read all 600 + of them? I think duty and ambition can go hand in hand. I have a mind blowing concept for you. Your cynicism doesn’t give you any special knowledge or insight. It is just another bias.
A legend in her own lifetime. I'm guessing there are a fair few MPs that will gladly wave her goodbye, but I fear our politics will be the worse for her leaving.
Incredible MP and person and although a terrible loss to Westminster she is wasted on that place. Hopefully she will earn a place at Holyrood a more modern and progressive establishment more suited to such.
I am so proud of the fabulous wee Mhairi Black, my local MP, and I am so proud to have voted for her each time she appeared on my ballot paper. I was obviously gutted when I heard she was stepping down as a Westminster MP, but I fully understand why she has come to that decision and I wish her all the very best. I'm sure we will see her again, before and after the next election. Good on ye Mhairi. Æx 🙏 👍👏👏👏
I remember when she first became an MP I was laughing at her and now she's honestly one of my favourite MPs ever. I'm gonna miss her because we need more MPs like her but I wish her all the best
@@eh1702 I'm from Glasgow when she became an MP she was only 20yrs old but her twitter account back in the day was that of a 20yr old girl so I was shocked she bested Labour's Douglas Alexander and became an MP but holy hell I did not expect her to become the MP she has. Always makes good points and stands up for people who are less fortunate and holds other parties to task. I have a LOT of respect for her now
@@Claudefather Alexander did worse than that. He had his team trawl back to her age-16 Twitter posts and start a whispering campaign that they had “sectarian hatred”. A lot of clueless people in England swallowed that whole. What was it, exactly? Her football team lost an important match to Celtic, and she posted “Aw! I hate Celtic!” (The Tories and Labour continually try to fan the dying sectarian flames in this way, so they can present Westminster as the only thing keeping people in Scotland from each other's throats.) Anyway, looking at the sly implication that she is an anti-Catholic Rangers-supporting bigot, what did we find? She supports the resolutely non-sectarian local option, Partick Thistle (which also means she’s an eternal optimist!). And..although she is not religious, she comes from a Catholic background!
Ah. I knew a wee bit more about her - that she was sitting her finals at uni in May, at the very same time she was campaigning in that election. So she had to have a huge work ethic, pretty good organisational skills, and some brains. She got a pretty good degree, too.
Skinner, Black, Corbyn.... anyone who speaks truth to power I have a great respect for. Call it like you see it, and instantly get asked to withdraw the comments and apologise....... It's hard to see how it all became such a mess, it really is!
Politics and career politicians are so disgusting and repulsive that their flatulence can turn out a breath of fresh air like Mhairi Black. Sorry to see her go. And I’m an American, so I can imagine how many good British people feel, sadly seeing her go.
While it's a bit of a shame that she's leaving, I can 100% understand it and I hope that she goes on to better things. But I do hope that she has inspired a bunch of future politicians with ethics that aren't afraid to speak their mind and have a razor sharp wit.
