The Unicorns are based on the Mares of Diomedes from Hercules 12 Labors. Ladon is the Dragon in the movie. The enemies and creatures are from Greek mythology.
I think you need to be aware that coy is a hard core comic book fan, so his opinion will be biased on comic book movies, most critics and the general audience don't read comics or know these characters
@@Eserr7856 Also, optimism about a film has really nothing to do with the comics. You can call out a poorly done film or poor writing whether you have or have not read them. Really doesn't matter or necessarily paint one's opinion on a film, just expectation. For example, I know a lot too and have been very critical of Marvel for years.
@@Eserr7856 It can go both ways. IMO hardcore comic fans, especially on RU-vid, can be dogmatic about what they want in a movie adaptation. Coy is one of the rarer few that embraces bold changes to established canon if those changes have a vision behind them I think he's a just more open-minded.
@@LotkaVolterra he is definitely open minded and leans heavily positive, but I think that can also be detrimental to other people taking his advice when they go see a movie and are disappointed. For example, Coy really enjoyed Venom 2, he compared it to a Saturday morning cartoon, which is fine, but I'd argue most people going to see that movie thought it was average at best and sub par. So it comes down to being aware of everyone's different tastes in movies, including our own, and forming our own opinions, whether we love or hate a movie, its all valid, because that is our own opinion
Really enjoy the way you review these movies. We go to these movies to have fun and enjoy them and I feel you do too. You point out flaws but at the end of the day you want to enjoy them or else why even watch them. Thank you!
Oh yeah James Gunn is definitely keeping Shazam! I’m totally in favor of a rolling reboot,it’s not hard to do. Can’t wait to see how it starts in The Flash
Coy, I appreciate you so much for your enthusiasm while being honest. I, too, loved the first Shazam movie and can't wait to see 2 on Saturday. Thank you!!!
Really great positive but balanced review/ post-watch reaction Coy! Yours definitely was closer to our experience and I might go as far as A- ish myself because of how fun, big-swing taking and heartfelt a ride it was. Love Greg and John (full stop) but you bring a special fan love special sauce, so thanks for that. And have a blast doing the WonderCon panel!
Hi Coy! I’m so happy to get your review. I love the Shazamily and now I’m excited to see this film. My inner child is fueled by my love of film and storytelling. I don’t ever want to lose that. Solidarity. 😃💜
Popping in from TEXAS, I’m seeing it in IMAX on Monday with the family….. rotten tomato doesn’t even exist to me, I go see things to make my own judgment.
Watched the movie earlier today and agree with your review! I had a very fun time. I also had low expectations because of the reviews and was pleasantly surprised
I personally loved it. It had good action, a lot of heart, the mythology behind the characters and creatures was great. I loved the final fight and honestly the acting from the kids I liked even more than the acting from the grownup versions, Zach Levi and the other actors were great but I was more invested in the acting of the children. Always wanted to pick up Shazam comics, but never did. This film is finally pushing me to getting into them. I give it a 9/10.
Movies like this are why I don’t give credit to what the “critics” say. Saw this with the family this weekend, and we all had such a great time. Bonus: we saw it IMAX, and yeah, it was so worth it!
@@Megaproductions302 Its not a broken site. A lot of people just don't understand how RT works. 62% doesn't mean the film is a 6 out of 10. it just means that 62% of the critics who saw it, Liked it. Any score over 60 is a good score really. It means only 40% (or less) of critics didn't like it.
This has nothing to do with this minus being DC but I just finished what's released of Doom Patrol on HBO Max so far and it is just as nuts as the Doom Patrol comics and Coy I think you would love it!
I am so glad I watched this video. I'll share a secret about how I enjoy so many more movies than other fans of the genre. As soon as I sit down in my seat in the theater, my adult self is shut down, replaced by my 12-year-old self, which is unleashed to enjoy the movie. It allows me to live in a fantasy world for the running time of the movie.
Love this guy!!!! Your DC Reviews are always on point ... cause your point of view confirms my own personal views (hehe). Keep up the great reviews mate.
1.3K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You welcome! I thank you for a fun, digital video recording! 🎬✌️🖖🙏🤓🤠😎 Notes: Your happiness made me happy, especially because, the trio at, "Double Toasted", were not as happy, because of the third guy. So you made up for that! I'd like to see your reáctions to, "Modesty Blaise", especially her, Archery! Helen Mirren's "DC" work was for the two, "R.E.D.", movies. Have you done those? 🤔
Great review! Also a fun fact: Captain marvel (recent shazam) has The first superhero movie ever made from all the way in 1940's. And either way fingers crossed and i cant wait to see shazam 2 in the theaters!
Thank you so much Coy. Really happy to know that a true comic book nerd just as myself really enjoyed this film. I will go into this film with a much better attitude. Greg and John had me dreading watching this film. So thank you. ❤
I felt the same way, almost every review I hear from Greg and John always makes me think the movie is going to be terrible. Then I hear Coy’s review and he says it’s great and my opinion always ends up aligning with Coy.
This is Rachel's 2nd film. Her first was west side story which she got cast by Spielberg at like 16. She's got Snow White with Gal Gadot & the prequel to hunger games soon too.
OMG I WATCHED IT LIKE 20 MINUTES AGO AND I LITERALLY CRIED WHEN… nevermind I won’t give spoilers, BUT ITS ACTUALLY SO GOOD I WATCHED IT IN THE CINEMA AND I DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE
Just watched Shazam 2 today.. WOW I really enjoyed it so much that I'm gonna catch it again & again. So good!!! Forget the RT score cuz critics generally don't like movies that seem dark & chaotic. It contains so much fun & excitement. There are 2 tender family moments that make me tear up. Just go & enjoy it if you liked the 1st one. You'll not regret.
I saw this movie last night and thought it was better than the first. When Greg compared it to Love & Thunder I got super worried because I despise that movie, but I was bewildered trying to piece together that comparison while watching Shazam 2.
I saw the reviews and skipped it in theaters.. Just watched on HBO and it was so much better than I expected! I don't know what people disliked tbh It seemed just as fun as the first and tied so much in from the first and felt balanced and paced well throughout
really enjoyed this one, actually liked it more than the first, without spoilers, almost makes me want to see david sandberg direct another certain dc heroes' film. It was a brief glimps but it worked really well and stood out to me also what theater is this? got a nice looking atmosphere outside
Yesss been waiting for the coy review to shazam fury of the gods can't wait to see shazam 2 tonight thank you reel rejects for this review video and yesterday,s review to shazam fury of the gods have an Amazing day✌☀️😎🤙oh and reel rejects live stream talk shazam 2 this weekend??
I really enjoyed this film. I've been disappointed by most of the DC films, aside from the first Shazam movie which I loved, so I was happy that it continued with this one. Despite it being a huge CGI-fest at times, it never got to that weird stylistic CGI (that doesn't balance well because you almost see the outline of them when in scene) that drove me nuts about the Snyder films.
It’s at 54% on RT and 85% audience score . That just tells you… go watch it and don’t give af what out of touch lame critics have to say . Also some of them are Disney partial
I had fun with most of the movie after the first 30 minutes or so, in which I enjoyed basically nothing. That being said, I thought this movie was as goofy, if not more overtly goofy at times than THOR: L&T. It had some rather nonsensical and whacky mythology that reminded me a bit of ant-man 3 in the way that both took me out of the experience. And anyone that wasn’t a core character seemed unbelievably stupid. Then again, some of the mythology really worked, the family stuff and overall chemistry really worked, they had actual arcs for many characters which was satisfying, and the third act doesn’t disappoint. Overall it’s definitely not great, but it was a decently enjoyable time at the movies.
I 100% agree with you Coy. I also went into the movie with low expectations but ended up loving it more than I thought I would. Zach Levi was great as always but I do wish we saw Billy Batson more throughout the film. I also really hope we see this version of the Shazamily make its way into the new DCU. Overall, I thought it was better than Ant Man 3 and I give it a 7/10.
I’m seeing it tomorrow. I just don’t see how Gunn can keep this version though. We can’t ignore the fact that these “kids” mostly aren’t kids anymore and by the time another Shazam movie would come out - there may be 1 child still a child. Gunn can keep the principles learned from these Shazam movies - but I really think he needs to reboot this as well with new characters.
I agree with a lot of what you said! My main thoughts are in my reaction blog post ^^ But yeah a bit more character developments for certain characters would have been nice. But Yeah I really had fun watching it : )
IM GOING CRAZY SHAZAM 2 FURY OF THE GODS THIS MOVIE WAS STRAIGHT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 FIRE LUCY LU WAS INSANEEEEEEEE IM GOING TO SEE THIS MOVIE AGAIN and AGAIN SHAZAM 2 FURY OF THE GODS NUMBER 1
Spoiler** Billy’s struggle with aging out of foster care and his conversations with Mary were some of my favorite parts of the film. When Billy finally accepts mom and they’re both emotional, he Shazams back to Zachary Levi, but he isn’t carrying the same emotions that Asher was just the moment before. that did under cut the scene.
I didn't like Freddy much in the first movie, but he really stole the show here. I think I liked this one a little more than the first. Glad to see Coy enjoyed it more than most of the people I'm seeing.
i am 100% with this review. i think this movie was a solid movie. i think people should learn to manage their own expectations before they go consume anything
this is actually a pretty decent movie. we watched this with my friends. there are 7 of us. and I asked them a personal rating from 1-10 including mine. the average I got from our group was 6.1/10. don't just rely on critics when watching a movie, go see it for yourself and judge it based on your own opinion and experience 😊
But yeah one critique I had was that they had a bit too much jokes in this one but hey I didn’t mind it, I mean I laughed at some of them so it’s all good 👍👍👍
It was a passable DC movie to me. Not the most horrible thing I've seen. Not a "OMG" type movie either. It was okay. Really liked the new suits, production, some of the visuals, cinematography. Zachary Levi stands out the most amongst every one else. You can tell he knows Shazam well but doesn't get to show it fully because of directors vision. Maybe the movie can do great in better hands. Mary was nice too. Freddie was great. The wizard was hilarious. The villain sister was very annoying, not even intimidating, just annoying. Helen Miren was a good villain. The first movie had the family dynamics, this one...I only remember the continuous action scenes. And who wouldn't want heroes flirting with WW? That was cute.
Just saw it last night and I’m with you on this, while I definitely preferred the first one, this one was still a lot of fun with a ton of heart and surprises.
I just got out of watching this. I’d give it a 6/10. Not bad, but I have no interest in seeing it again in a theater or streaming. I briefly chuckled a few times but the comedy didn’t hit me the way I’m sure they wanted. The Wonder Woman cameo at the end was stupid (it was released days ago in a TV spot, not a spoiler).
I loved Shazam 2 and was super surprised by the reviews. I think ppl went in too seriously and not looking to have fun. I hated the Flash bc I wanted it to be serious, so maybe ppl felt the same about Shazam
I first seen coy on collider n I was like who is that man child, not in a bad way, love the energy he had....n then I lost him😢 😅 n out of all the ppl in collider he was one of my fav ppl so I'm glad I found him here in reject nation ... BTW can wait to see Shazam!
Coy has liked pretty much everything. So don’t know what he means by happy review coming back. He had like one movie he didnt like that much and it was quantum mania besides that he pretty much like everything they put out.
