Love how Flash, the fastest man alive, has a bit of a beer belly. Makes him relatable.

You know your superhero pilot is in trouble when it makes the Captain America movies starring Reb Brown more watchable.

Funnily enough, Miguel Ferrer voiced the Weather Wizard in the much better Superman animated series episode "Speed Demons" which featured the Flash. The episode aired only a couple of months before this pilot.

This is like the Justice League action figures you would find at a Dollar Tree. Also 20:39 that is Scorpion's spear sound effect which means this takes place in the same universe as Mortal Kombat Annihilation. Explains the costumes.

Why does this feel like a Power Rangers episode?

WHAT? Miguel Ferrera plays a villain ? Such a surprise !

This production was riddled with all sorts of copy right problems, leading to characters having the wrong names. Originally in an attempt to have a young, teen titan-ish line up GL was written as Kyle Rayner the contemporaneous GL but had to be renamed as Guy Gardener as Hal Jordan at the time was the Villain Parallax, likewise Wally West the then comic book flash was renamed for his predecessor Barry Allen (who in the comics was dead) but kept his younger personality and situation. Ice was originally written as Ice maiden and has her origin (sort of) but was changed to ice only without fire which of course necessitated the removal of the other female member of the league, rumoured to have been Wonder girl or Huntress in order to replace he with fire. Weather wizard was the original villain but again permission was refused so his name was changed to Weather man and his alter ego changed from Mark Mardon and Dr. Clyde Mardon to Dr. Eno which means swordsman. Atom as ray Palmer was de-aged, but to be honest his personality, age and situation is more like the golden age atom Al Pratt. The result is a mess, an enjoyable mess, but still a mess.

IF this pilot would have been good, and they added Blue Beetle and Booster Gold it might have been a decent adaptation of Justice League International.

Anyone else noticed that The Weatherman is Albert from Twin Peaks?

I think I know why this film had such a parts to it like the talking head segments. In the 90s, it was a very very popular run called Justice League International. The team consisted of ice, Guy Gardner, the Adam, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, a few others that I can't think of at the moment, and they were managed by Martian Manhunter. It was written by DeMatteis and Keith Giffin, and was known for its humor. Basically, it was the Justice League Rejects. Martian Manhunter was often disrespected and had an obsession with Oreo cookies. Guy Gardner gets punched out with one hit by Batman, and then eventually from the blow to the Head becomes a very effeminate wussy guy who if he gets hit again becomes his usual belligerent self. There are story segments where they were interviewed and occasions where they were sort of talking head segments. It lasted about 5 to 10 years, they had their own title as well as a Justice League the quarterly magazine, and at the time when this was being put together and written would have been the most popular option to go with on a network television. Even the villains they fought were a little bit Goofy and silly, it was very much lighter in tone than anything else that DC Comics put out. Sadly after 6 volumes DC stopped collecting the comic and trade and I have struggled to complete my collection of issues

You always learn something new on this show. I didnt know that David Ogden Stiers pronounced his name that way. Furthermore the weatherman is actually Avery Bullock from American Dad standing on the roof throwing out an epic riff on a guitar.

Well that explains why I don't remember it at all until the internet, without cable we could NEVER get CBS on analogue TV, hell we could barely pull in Fox to watch Simpsons. I DO remember the failed Generation X "mini-feature" or was it also a failed pilot like a live action "Pryde of the X-Men"? on Fox which was an X-Men spin-off featuring a more conservatively cress Emma Frost and Banshee as the leaders training some other new mutants. After those costume, as much as it gets flack these days, I can totally understand why Bryan Singer wanted to make the X-uniforms just black motorcycle suits with an X on the chest or whatever.

A bootleg DVD of this was the second thing I ever purchased on eBay. 2003 was a different time...

This has the common super hero team problem of are all of them needed to stop the villian. My guess is flash martain manhunter or green lantern could have defeated the weather man by thsemselves.

The 1994 pilot of the animated series of The Tick also parodied the talking head segments of The Real World, and I assume that's where this show got the idea, since borrowed ideas have a tendency to make less sense. Anyway The Tick immediately dropped the bit after the first episode, so if this show got picked up it probably would have done the same. And then the 2001 live action Tick series came out, which honestly seems like a copy of this show, in fact it seems even cheaper. 13:00 "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

I remember watching this on Channel 5 in the U.K back in like 2001ish. Totally forgot it existed until a few years ago, and when I tried to rewatch it I just couldn't get through it. Lol, it's so bad. Also I always thought this was suppose to be the Kyle Rayner GL. He looks a lot more like that version of GL.

The Flash is named Barry Allen, but with his schlubby personality, he gives me more of Wally West vibes.

At a guess this production had gone wrong even before they started filming, aim at far too broard an audience resulting in generic sitcom characters, too family friends to have any violence, and too small of a budget for acceptable special effects this was clearly doomed from the beginning.

Yeah, It's been a long time since I've first heard of this pilot. But, if there's anything positive I can say about this pilot, its at least more colorful and fun than any of the pre-Wonder Woman 2017 DCEU movies and the upcoming "Snyder-Cut" of 2017's "Justice League".

Looks like a really bad episode of Power Rangers, to be honest. Still, looks better than the 2017 Justice League film: at least you can laugh at it.

The selection of heroes in this movie is kinda weird but after all that's how it goes with movie deals. The selection of heroes Marvel Studios was allowed to use (excluding Hulk, who's technically Universal) too was considered second rate at the time, it's the movies that made them big.
