I think that Kermode meant it as an underlining of how strongly boring it was. Thunders are extremely loud and so he emphasized how boring the film was without shouting about it. Think this way: "You've heard the applause" versus "You've heard the thunder of applause".

I agree with Kermode about the misguided criticism of BvS or MoS being bad because of lack of humor. I couldn't care less if you don't throw one single joke as long you got a good story and engaging characters. Frankly, the lack of jokes is the least of the problems with these movies. I feel this has set WB to a completely wrong course to fix this mess.

FYI: Snyder had shot and planned for an almost three-hour final theatrical version... but the head of Warner issued a decree that the film had to be edited down to two hours long (so that its runtime facilitated a maximum number of showings per cinema). It's likely that an extended cut Blu-ray version will be closer to three-hours long... but from the sounds of your review it won't make the film any better or more coherent.

Streets of Vancouver Why do people use this excuse. Every damn movie is cut. Seriously, if ever director wanted all the scenes they shot in the movie then every single movie we would get would be 3 to 4 hrs long. People seriously act like the directors cut of BvS turned it into a masterpiece. 3hrs of this movie wouldn't have made it a LoTR masterpiece...

Great comment Mark - any superhero film has to have a lead character (and also its villains/supporting cast) with vulnerabilities, nuances and qualities that make them 3 dimensional and allow people to relate to them. The original Spiderman trilogy and the Dark Knight trilogy had this; many of the more recent films haven't, in my opinion.

One big problem I noticed was the pacing. They tried _so_ hard to cut the film down to the two-hour mark, and it shows. The scenes have no room to breathe; it's like nearly every moment where the characters weren't doing or saying something important for plot, action setpieces, or the character development outline was chopped out, and perhaps entire character scenes which were necessary only in aggregate. They tried to cram in too much, and then they cut it down.

This is the first review of the film that I find to be accurate. DC is way too obsessed with catching Marvel. And , as a result , the films no longer have any semblance of self . I was hoping that DC would continue the adult themes set by Nolan . While the first couple had some flaws ( which I put down to pandering ) I was hopeful that they would decide on which side of the fence they wanted to be on and focus on building films around character and the weight of responsibility given incredible power . The reference to Schumacher is very fitting imo. The poor writing , plot and character development will lead to a destruction of the franchise. For me , like Affleck , that's it . I'm done spending money on these films. Why watch a faux Marvel when you can get the real thing .

I can understand why DC wanted to fast-track the extended universe and bring JL to the big screen having seen how successful the Marvel cinematic universe had become. But Marvel had taken it's time to develop each character with solo movies and guest slots into other movies to introduce the next etc. They had also used different directors throughout keeping it relatively fresh (albeit it within the same mold). DC's decision to stick with ZS is crazy (imo), MoS bored me to tears, BvS was actually worse. As MK says there was zero attempt at storytelling and narrative throughout! ZS must be the greatest salesman that ever lived to have sold whatever universe he was creating to DC and keep being called back!

I'm not going to lie. I absolutely despise 2/4 of the DC extended universe films (Wonder Woman is great though.) Even with that being said I'm kind of fascinated to see what the final cut of this film looks like (not seen it myself yet) just because of the sheer number of production issues that were involved in making it. I'm legitimately amazed they were able to get it finished on time. If I were to take a guess I'd say the production and back story behind the film will be more interesting than the film itself.

Really? How low do you have to go to be complaining about how characters got on top of buildings? Pretty sure that Batman did that in the dark knight trilogy. And you didn't make a fuss about that. Just shows how bias critics are towards the DCEU and Zack Snyder. "The flash is the comic relief". Okay so he cracks a few jokes. Didn't see you making the same comparison with Iron Man, Ant-Man or Star Lord. And I bet that if he wasn't joking then you would be complaining that the movie is too dark.

I didn't realize there was another end credit sequence since I really wanted to get out of the theater, and I thought the race scene was all there was. I guess it was the DC Thanos or whatever? Anyway, my hairline's already receding.

Nearly everyone went in the Cinema we were in on Thursday... but it was worth the wait... there is another character in that sequence too, initials DS... or when not in costume SW.

Yeah, I figured it out nearly immediately after I hit reply, but I figured I'd leave the post up just so everyone knows how slow I am.

I watched it. Not as bad as ppl say, not great, but eatchable. Actually enjoyed this more than avengers: age of ultron. Less arguing, more hopeful, fun. Much better than suidice squad.

Will judge for myself. I have disagreed with Mark before but respect his opinions. Let's remember Mark did like High School Musical .... and Antichrist lol

I don't like it when people compare the dark knight to wonder woman. It's like comparing diamonds to coal. Yes, they are both carbon based... But come on, just don't
