😂😂😂😂 no, it's just young and dumb. It's people like you that find any reason you can to shoot shit, all without educating yourself on the animals behaviors and characteristics.
@user-nn8ri3zi2e ok um it's not a bear . Ambush predators us the element of surprise. If it's spotted or attacked it will flee as that's how they respond they don't expect prey to fight outright. Defensive aggression. Hippos geese ducks swans moose and the famous honey badgers. First strike is everything
It's tragic, but completely justified. These impressive cats will eat you. They are super strong and fast. If it's this close to you, it could easily take your life. They often stalk and follow close for a very long time before they go in for a kill. People saying unjustified would most likely be a meal for one of these animals.
If you shoot the mountain lion, collect your brass and continue on your way without filming everything. That way, you don't have to worry about dipshits on RU-vid debating whether or not the shooting was justified.
In Canada it is illegal for most gun owners to carry a sidearm. Our government forces us to use Jujitsu against bears and mountain lions, because our government knows best!
Yup. There's something wrong with that young mountain lion. Most mountain lions do not like people at all and do everything they can to get away from a person. That thing was danger close and if you watch the original video the guy shot it only when it started to crouch down like it was going to pounce on him. I myself encountered a sleeping mountain lion that was 10 yards away. The mountain lion jumped up and ran away from me as fast as it could, which is the typical response when encountering people.
I find it very very disturbing that after everything you just explained plus the video itself, people still said unjustified. Imagine being in a national park and a tagged bear is focused and locked on you. And when it makes any advances even the smallest are you really thinking “oh man the world is gonna hate me after I shoot the bear” rather than saving YOURSELF.
The people saying unjustified must want to be cat nip haha, the cat started to charge the hunter as well. But if he got attacked, people would be asking why he didn't have a gun lol
@@Michael-xr3vhbears are less dangerous unless a grizzly. Wolves and cougars are far far more dangerous 90 to 150lb cougars can kill any human. Unless you get lucky or have a gun 21 feet for a human with a knife can kill you before you shoot. An animal much faster and lethal.
@@Michael-xr3vh He should have pulled out his invisibility cloak and force field. But he left them with his phaser in his other pants. Also, in the original video, he only shot when it started to charge and rear up to pounce him.
Absolutely in the right if he would of tried to walk away he would of be stalked and attacked or just straight up jumped on if he turned around i just hope he kept the pelt.
As much as it stinks to see it happen, I think it’s justified. Those animals can cover ground and fast. For those who say warning shot, if that triggers that animal to charge, how fast could you get back on target to defend yourself? Hes probably carrying a 10mm, not a small round, therefore some decent recoil to it when holding it with one hand
Most of these armchair experts that say its unjustified have never been in the back country and have never fired a hand [long range hole puncher] and have no idea that there's recoil and that hand [long range hole punchers] are the hardest [long range hole punchers] to aim. It's sad, but I am glad it was the mountain lion and not the man. Used the "long range hole puncher" euphemism to prevent this comment from not appearing due to RU-vid's comment policies.
@@glenkartchner8654 that’s definitely a little different. However I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that an average shooter is not proficient enough to get back on target in that short of distance. Just my opinion
@@corbitbelflower7562 yeah if you're carrying muzzle loader! You have multiple shots. That guy had plenty of time to empty his clip in the cat! He's in their habitat! Respect the hunt!
That all depends on if your a shitty shot or not😂, good knows there's a ton of them out there now. See lots of wounded every year and the sad thing is, they keep on hunting the rest of the season
Just because it didn’t look threatening don’t mean anything, that can change in half a second. Second, if the warning shot prompts it to charge and not run then it was goanna charge in the first place.
I ended up being 18 yards from a mountain lion in dark timber while archery elk hunting that was in front of me before I knew it. It came in while blind cow calling and I was squatting next to a large tree. It only heard the call, because the sun was sitting behind me, which I believe "blinded" it. It was taking a very very slow stalk, looking right at me. I was more scared than when I have a bear that close. Anyway, I somehow missed when I shot at the lion with my bow, which I rushed the shot and actually glad I missed and we both bounced out in different directions. It's pretty nerve racking!
@@MuleyFreak we will blame those who genocide big felines because they got scared and not used another method to scare it away ? Are wild life is almost gone but that was justified in your pathetic eyes ? 😿
@@catseyesinthesky1339 You should do some research, mountain lion populations are rising in the U.S. So they aren't almost gone. In Utah all you need is a hunting license to harvest one, no tag. It's also one mountain lion that charged the hunter, that's why his camera moves down. Not genocide, and you can tell the hunter feels remorse for shooting the lion, but end of the end it was either kill or be killed.
I would say no if the animal isnt being threatning then the hunter or person should back off and stay away from this animal. Its in its own element and isnt again not posing Any threat to this man.
That mountain lion got that close unnoticed... If he was going to attack dude would be dead... And not all wild animals are dangerous... You'll find videos of bear coming up to picnic tables and sitting down and getting feed...
Mountain lions are extremely sleuthy and hate people. It looks like it was stalking the hunter and was sitting back when the hunter confronted it. If you watch the original video, the hunter only shot it when it started to crouch down like it was about to pounce on him, which it could easily do as these things can jump 10 yards in a single bound. This is extremely odd behavior for a mountain lion and almost all mountain lion encounters with people end with the mountain lion trying to get away from the person as quickly as possible.
@@TheUnknownUniversethey do not.... when he crouched down could of meant he sensed danger and was ready to leave, or could of meant he was going to attach. I'm going with leaving, since it was a young lion.
@@glenkartchner8654 The way that mountain lion was looking at him was, "Can I eat you without getting killed?" Look at the eyes. They say it all. That was predatory behavior and young mountain lions are the most dangerous because they are usually inexperienced hunters that are commonly hungry while a big tom is the least likely to attack because they got to their age and size by being experts at hunting, and giving humans a wide berth.
I'm not out to kill an animal for any reason outside of hunting it. Yet if I'm the one being hunted/stalked. Well I'm going to try to back away. If animal persist. Well this will be the outcome.
I am no feline expert but big cats are not the animals to take chances with. I would have wished he had proper knowledge of mountain lions but i would have done the same thing unless i had better knowledge of their behaviors.
There is a video exactly like this one (if not closer proximity) where he fires warning shots, 3 I believe and it was not a juvenile. It’s behaviors were more aggressive than this one so I’d say no this is not justified and the man should be charged because the cat didn’t view him as food yet if it had assessed it as a threat instead with said shots the situation should have de-escalated. His life nor his property were truly in danger, if you’re going to be in the wilderness you need a better understanding of animal behavior, posture, etc. this just seems like an uneducated explorer with a deadly weapon.
@@MuleyFreak I had one come at me and a buddy in Idaho while breaking down a deer. It took off after we jumped up to grab our guns. We took what we could and left the rest for him since we’d be hiking back in the dark. Didn’t need more blood and meat on my back to get attacked in the dark.
Yes they are dangerous. Yes they can leap and shred you to bits of it really wanted to. But you have to read body language. Animals have 100% better body language than people. It's exactly as you first said it was more curious and looked like it wasn't even thinking about aggression. Also being so fast you would think the lions body would have moved away from the tree it was by at the beginning but it didn't it was in the same spot. It feels more of a wanted interaction
@@MuleyFreakthat's my point, when it's that close it's time to have both hands available. How many dudes go to the range with their pistols and practice shooting with a single handed grip with the cellphone filming their iron sights? No one. Now add a live mountain lion at close quarters. My point is to leave your cellphone in the pocket and have both hands on your handgun.
@@MuleyFreakBecause..."feelings". For the past 25+ years, far too many public schools have been teaching children to "think" with their emotions, to regard truth as entirely subjective & significantly fluid, to deny & argue vehemently against the empirical realities of what others can/do objectively perceive with their own 5 senses, and agree upon as a group. It is always disappointing, but sadly no longer surprising...
Unjustified, from this clip the hunter never yelled, no warning shot, never made loud noises. Lol holding his phone and calmly saying "get back" like it speaks English 😂 this guy saw a opportunity to make a video.
He literally just a explained what a warning shot might do, you bot. But honestly all you who say “unjustified” are the ones we hear getting mauled on the news. Like imagine having a gun in a life or death situation and still be reluctant to use it. People also successfully yell “get back” to bears to get away so…. yeah be smarter
It sucks for the lion but yes it was justified. You can’t let predators get comfortable getting that close to humans. At the end of the day human life is more important and life isn’t a Disney movie
I think maybe people should stop trampling into their territory then you won’t have to worry about shooting it. It’s not like the lion busted into your house you came into his
@@MuleyFreak you can enjoy nature but why go so far into nature that you disturb extreme wildlife? Everyone doesn’t get a kick out of killing animals and call it a “sport”
It wasn’t going to attack yet, the guy was scared. It wasn’t justified however I do agree with having a side arm but bigger because of bears since the wolves are decimating all the game so everything is hungry now.
In the original video, the reason he pulled the camera down was because it started to rear up to charge him. That's why the camera suddenly panned down. He only shot when it started to become aggressive. I love how people care more for the life of an abnormally aggressive wild animal than a human being and fail to give their fellow man the benefit of the doubt. I also love how people have such a strong opinion when they weren't there and don't know the whole story.
Ehh yes no. Thing is cougars are aggressive to humans they will hunt us if hungry enough. Your better intimidating it. They are still smaller than us. Keep gun ready but you shouldn't need to use it. Its not a pantherde. Wolves and bears are the hard ones to intimidate. Im happpy to explain just ask
Unjustified shooting. Edit: here's my explanation as a hunter cause I am and I've run across cats and they've run across me. A cat that small showing no signs of aggression, isn't actively charging is not a threat, plain and simple, a couple harsh words is all I ever needed. I'm not the one who has to explain to game and fish what happened though. Like I said I've run across them even had a mother den up not 100 yds from our house, she was never an issue, wanted nothing to do with us. But you're always gonna have the people down below in the comments section like the ones calling me an armchair warrior. I don't even bring a side arm anymore when I hunt, not worth the extra weight.
Haha. Lemme guess, it's only justified when the animal has its teeth around your throat? You are you supposed to tickle it off? Gotta love armchair experts.
No. This is extremely abnormal behavior for a mountain lion. You ever encounter one, which I have, 99% of the time, they run away as fast as they can. They do NOT like people. There was something wrong with this one.
@@TheUnknownUniverseoh that's a good point. It's a young one and they tend to less aggressive to humans. But ya they don't come out like that it's so close. I'd be curious to see the toxicology labs and some other labs
@@brianstanley9506 You mean he could have slowly been stalked until the animal chose to attack...You forget that it's a predator, it isn't a house cat.
He did nothing that most hunters know to do when approached by a predator. My mans is whispering get back like the damn cat understands english. He didnt stand up, didn't make himself look big, didnt make himself loud, threatening, nothing, any hunter that uneducated should have all licenses removed, making the good hunters look like dumbasses just cuz you put on ur daddy's camo and found his big gun 🙄
100% agreed with everything you said. I wouldn’t be surprised if he baited it somehow. It was looking curious but didn’t display one sign of aggression or a possible attack. I think this guy should go to jail for this!
Wherever I choose to set my foot in the wilderness is my land. The animals submit to our presence. I’m the apex predator and the animals are below me. How did we ever get here as a nation?
All the individuals saying unjustified are ridiculous it's a killer cat and they are very dangerous and can jump anytime. Oh easy to comment stupid shit when it's not your ass on the line.
Have you ever been in that situation??? If not then keep your comments to yourself. The guy was looking for a good video calmly starts recording and whispers get back like the thing speaks English. Come on looking for a viral video that's all
They are potentially very dangerous animals. But I've seen videos of people in the same situation. Actually a little worse. Warning shots scared it off quickly.
Was it unfortunate yes but was it justified absolutely he’s a better man than me if I see a predator within 50 yards of me and it’s looking at me curious or like I’m food it’s dirt nap time
Absolutely not okay! I think he baited that animal! Total non hunter behavior! That poor cat was curious not aggressive! Of course it could go wrong quick but it didn’t on the cats part! He murdered that cat! He didn’t feel bad at all! Any hunter I know would have not done any of those things!
HE WAS NOT READY TO POUNCE! HIS EARS Were forward, He WAS young and curious!🤬 The man could have simply walked back slowly and fired a warning shot! HE ABSOLUTELY COULD HAVE SHOT A WARNING SHOT INSTEAD OF SAY GET BACK !!!
