Say what you want about this kid,but you have to admit he sounds good doing any style of music weather it's an upbeat pop song,R&B and then a chill song like this is impressive. Not many musicians can do it so well. I love how versatile his voice is.

I dont get it lady, Justin does not even play it right or anywhere near right on the guitar, its because he is mediocre guitar player he substitutes playing like it is suppose to be or (even close to what it is suppose to be) for playing it nothing like the real song! Now watch Luke Combs he plays it right just like the real song plays it. Also as so many comments addressed, Justin uses (AUTOTUNE) on this song and you can hear it, one of the comments was from a retired Music Producer and he even said (i'm a music producer going back to the 80s in ocean gate, yes there is 100% autotune on this). Now I'm not saying the guitar has to be exactly like Tracy's because every musician plays there own version but Justin if not for him singing the words just hearing the guitar only, you would never know it was Fast Car because it is no where near it! His voice doesn't need all of this auto-tune, It is beautiful as is honestly. It distracts me hearing the high pitched notes, when I know he could hit those notes without help.
No, he didn’t need it at all. Fast Car is supposed to be raw. It’s okay not to be perfect. Anyway, the auto tune screwed up the quality. You can hear him hitting the notes just fine.
The auto-tune is super distracting, and you're right, completely not needed, he's got a good enough voice he can get away with the notes not being perfect.

At 0:06 he lips "fast" to start the song one progression too early and then whispers into the song. I think he a actually used an overlay for a "live, acoustic" song. He might get away with that in concert but not in this setting. Sorry
As someone who grew up listening to Justin Bieber's RU-vid covers, this hits differently. I almost forgot that playing acoustic songs was how he became famous in the first place! His image might have changed (and will continue to change) but his talent will always be there.
He didn't get famous playing covers, he got famous being discovered playing covers ..original / DJ music made him famous ..but he should do more emotional songs like Cold Water.and Fast Car....I think his fans would appreciate it and maybe make some new fans along the way..

It didn't work out of course- he was just a kid- She atones by telling him he should take his fast car and get away from her loser situation and maybe be someone she sure isn't going to be anyone. Bieber is very talented, I think a lot of people can’t look beyond his pop image and notice that he is a really good musician. His guitar groove is amazing
Agreed! I lived/went to high school in the same rural town as him in 08/09, a place that happened to be full of talented, young musicians. Justin was simply the most enthusiastic and talented of the lot, and got a big break.

lol, yeah he's pretty talented, but not for this reason. any guitarist who's been playing for more than two months doesn't have to look at the guitar to play basic chords. not disagreeing with you that he's talented, but it's pretty easy to close your eyes and play.

Always related to this song. Grew up with an alcoholic father. Mom left us when I was 8 in 2001 same day as 9/11 and never looked back. Anyone who's delt with alcoholism knows the battle it can be.. Thought about packing up and leaving a lot as a teen. Wasnt until I was an adult I could appreciate the life that led me to today and understand the shoes my dad had to fill working full time and taking care of two kids, one of which with cerebral palsy on his own. Not often a song can make you picture your entire life in a few minutes. Always got mocked i looked like bieber when I was a kid too so pulls it all together well lol
Singing voice, yea. Guitar is basic, nice palm mutes here and there but he’s playing the first chords that any beginner learns nothing special there. He should’ve got someone to play the actual riff while he just sung.
I'm Canadian, and live only a few hours from where Bieber grew up. I am not and never have been a fan of his music and especially of his public persona especially now as he's gone completely "Hollywood", but I can't deny that was an excellent soulful version of a great song.

For those of you curious as to why it sounds like a double effect, it’s because the acoustic guitar mic is picking up his voice as well. However his vocal mic has live pitch correction on it and the acoustic mic obviously has no pitch correction. The doubling sound comes from both his raw voice and corrected voice sounding simultaneously
