Who is here because of Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs's preformance from the Grammys 2024?? I love this version by Khalid! His voice is so raw almost like begging. Really love it!
Tracy paints a picture and puts you there with her in her raw emotion., which is why her version is eternal and best. We felt it and can never forget it. This one is soooo good too and anyone that covers this haunting song we know, 'gets it' so we love you too. 💜👌
We all are on a fast ride, a ride which can end at any moment. Souls ain´t alright nor right with GOD, to go back home. Choosing not to repent and BORN AGAIN, souls still daily live in sins. (Luke: 13:3 KJV) Perishing because of the knowledge, which they didn´t care about knowing. (HOSEA 4:6 KJV)
This is the best cover I’ve heard of this song. Most of the covers lacked… believability if I can call it that. This one somehow sounds sincere and so good… thank you for giving justice to this song. It very much deserves it
Never really appreciated this song as a kid....but wow....one of my all time favorites. This cover is particularly excellent as it connects very well with Tracy's version but decidedly it's own take. Well done Khalid!
The stark difference between the intensity of the verses and the chorus of this song is one of the things that makes it so great. You're just chilling listening to a chill melody and it instantly gets intense and emotional in the verses. Good stuff
Well it certainly is a time of a reflection and gratitude for the more fortunate and by fortunate I mean not living in a third world country. May the universe bless you and bless all souls everywhere with the resiliency, strength and fortitude to see our way clear of this. United we stand... 🌟🙏
whole world's together here in the youtube comments. love from australia. we'll all be travelling in 2021 and we'll be glad and more appreciative for simple joys.
My favourite song ever created because my dad died when I was 10... he used to rebuild classic cars, had one of those famous green TVR'S with sporty vents on the wings... always used to take me out in it driving fast, looking to the side of him while giggling at my excitement of the thrill... me getting worried about the speed and him replying with its ok son ill look after you and smiling :) this song makes me cry with sadness and happiness at the same time because it reminds me of the memories we shared together filled with pure love, laughter and adventures... if only we could share that car journey again and again... :'( R.I.P Dad X
This comment hit me in the feels. My dad was never there for me. I'm 33 now, he still prefers the bottle over his children :(. Wish I had a little of what you had.
@@ashaavocado5898 thank you so much, I'm starting a channel on here to do with mental health and life experiences and over coming them for a positively ending :-) just want to help others take care
@@neile9003 aw no... can you contact him? or is it not like that? I'm sorry to hear that and now I feel forever grateful for what I had :-( take care and if you ever need to talk, always here man
What in the hell are you talking about man? Have you ever even heard the original by Tracy Chapman? This is one of the best and most accurate covers I have ever heard, and his voice truly is perfect for this song. Claiming that his singing is "shitty" does nothing but tell all of us that you have no clue what great singing really is, which isn't shocking at all since you are using American Idol as some sort of gauge for what good singing is lol, which is comical/pitiful to put it kindly. In what world is this damn near perfect cover "borderline horrific" as you say?!? I would bet a lot of money that even Tracy Chapman herself would say that this was an excellent cover. Please explain what was "borderline horrific" about this song, in your "opinion". Also, American Idol has ZERO to do with genuine talent or actual amazing singing, so please don't try to use American Idol in your justification of your "opinion" or as some sort of frame of reference for what good music or talent really is. Thank you and I await your explanation on why this song was "borderline horrific" to you, when damn near everyone else heard this song for what it really was, an amazing cover of an amazing song, by someone with a killer voice that was perfect to do this cover. Thank you and have a great day. :) P.S. Go explore RU-vid and look for some musicians with talent or great voices, since you clearly do not understand what either of those things are. Also, how old are you? I will take the under at 24 years old, am I correct?
Seen and heard so many people cover this particular legendary song and not many stands out as much as this one. This was absolutely amazing. Everything Khalid touches turns to gold. Always look forward to his music or performance. Great voice, great talent. P.S. If anyone remember the audition of Michael Collings in BGT that performance was beautiful too.
I LOVE how intelligent the guitar playing is here. He played the last two chords an octave lower when Khalid was singing and it worked so perfectly props to the guy damnnn
I wish I could dissect and analyse the music like you just did here. To us untrained ears we only hear the music. While you guys can probably see the music! 🤗
As a hardcore TracyC fan, I have to say, I was quite pleased by this young man. Few things can touch the original, if at all. For as young as Khalid is, he did quite well. He has talent!
I listen to this cover almost daily since I discovered it. Tracy Chapman’s version has been a longtime favorite song of mine for years; it’s so moving and so soulful. Khalid more than does it justice with his amazing vocals (not to mention the talented guitar accompaniment). Thank you for making this amazing piece of music.
Ben Ward My only complaint is he sounds stilted on certain words so it doesn't flow as well but aside from that this is probably the best cover of Fast Car I've heard.
When I listened to Tracy, I feel like in reality we really escaped life and went in a car trip. But listen to this, I feel like we want to runaway, but couldn't, and still trapped in our own miserable life.
Ed Sheeran said Khalid has this warm voice that is effortless and calming, I feel like he’s one of a few who can sing this and make it sound emotional and beautiful
I’ve always thought this song was born timeless, but Khalid made me fall head over heels in I’ve with the song. Thank you to Khalid for the absolutely impeccably haunting delivery of this song ❤️
I mean it's a true copy of a beautiful original not very difficult riff. Anyone with a max year expirience on the guitar can play it. I wish everyone in the world had some music theory knowledge.. Then we wouldn't have so much crap on the charts. Im not talking about Khalid - he is great!
We don't really care if the media dgaf at least he sings it with the heart like Tracy Chapman. She always brought the love towards her song. That is Khalid giving value to her beloved song fast car.
Lyrics: You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Any place is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something Me, myself, I got nothing to prove You got a fast car I got a plan to get us outta here I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money Won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living See, my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle, that's the way it is He says his body's too old for working His body's too young to look like his My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody's got to take care of him So I quit school and that's what I did You got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way So I remember we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I-I had a feeling that I belonged I-I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car We go cruising, entertain ourselves You still ain't got a job And I work in a market as a checkout girl I know things will get better You'll find work and I'll get promoted We'll move out of the shelter Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs So I remember we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I-I had a feeling that I belonged I-I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car I got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me'd find it I got no plans, I ain't going nowhere So take your fast car and keep on driving So I remember we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I-I had a feeling that I belonged I-I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car Is it fast enough so you can fly away? You gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way
I’ve always thought this song was born timeless, but Khalid made me fall head over heels in I’ve with the song. Thank you to Khalid for the absolutely impeccably haunting delivery of this song ️
Wow this song just came into the playlist unexpectedly. Beautiful song, reminds me of so much of childhood pain. "Is it fast enough so we can fly away"
