that's such an interesting thought daigo had when he said that they weren't playing as well as they would have today, but he also couldn't summon that sense of desperation. that's a hell of thing to even notice.. even though the gap in thought between american and japanese players has gotten much smaller it still exists in small observations such as that

I've always thought that Justin and Daigo's match at EVO 09 was so poetic. EVO Moment 37 was what helped kick start the FGC renaissance during it's dark period and five years later they face off again, but this time with the FGC thriving. Full circle moment.

SF4 was so fun because everyone was so bad at the start. Watching all the players get better, develop a personality and playstyle, it was all so fun to follow. All we had was SRK and EventHubs, and I remembered coming home to check them every day after school, we didn't have Discord groups, and we didn't have good wikis until almost the end of USF4, so you would pick a player and try to do what they were doing. I know SF3S was where these two made their big EVO momment 37, but for me personally, I got to know these two through SF4, so this video was a great trip back in time to a simpler, more unoptomized time. I miss it a lot. Thank you for this video.

Sweet words dude... This is my history too... Just a few differences... I checked srk and eventhubs after university classes. And on the weekends when there were SF4 majors, I would go out early in the morning Or in the middle of the night on the streets to buy some fasfood To continue watching broadcasts without interruption (I live in Brazil). I spent sleepless nights hahaha good times.
@Mocroskate
@Mocroskate 3 месяца назад
SF4 was without a doubt the hardest to master out of all the Sf series. Nobody could even touch the top players without having at least years an years of fighting game history in the pocket. Plus mastering the game and its deep details as well. A newbie player could play for 6 months and get good enough to beat top players in the 5 and now 6 Era. In the 4 era the noob could practice every singel day for 2 years straight and he wouldnt even come close to beating any of them. The skill level was truly different in that game.
@Choom89
@Choom89 2 месяца назад
I have a very similar feeling, there was some lightning in a bottle with SF4. The fact that we still had SRK, that the game launched in arcades first, the hype building for console versions and the team of Ono and Seth Killian... The list could go on and on to do real justice to all the rivalries, RU-vid channels, etc.

The game was way more fun before everyone learned all the OS techs. We didn't have discords but because of the way the game worked, having the Internet sort of ruined the magic of the game. Everyone started playing a cookie cutter style and using OS

Their SF3 match is the most brought up because of the parry comeback but their SF4 finals match I think was more epic on the whole and more important in terms of the growth of the scene. That game and that match helped towards garnering a larger interest in fighting games and towards paving the way for fighting game players to make a career out of playing them. And speaking for myself as a fan, without SF4 and the hype Justin vs Daigo in grand finals helped to feed, I wouldn't have become a regular consumer of FGC content such as classic shows like Excellent Adventures. That SF4 era ('09 to 2015) was really something special and I miss it, though thanks to RU-vid one can relive it through much of the old content that is still up. Thanks for the sit down and thanks for the memories, Justin and Daigo.
