Excellent interview! Can’t help but root for the beast. Even though he’s not top dog anymore, remember this year got knocked of the lcq by 1 round to Punk in a super tight set. He’s still at the highest levels. Mad respect!
There’s a lot of times where daigo just looks terrifying. I feel peak daigo (in sf5 with guile) was around when covid happen. He might of actually won capcom cup or even evo. He’s still a top player in sf6 and can bust any fantasy bracket. Maybe not #1 anymore, but cannot count him out.
People seem to forget he was dominating SFV by the end of it too, give it time and see what he does at SF6, reading his book you get to understand his mindset, he underestimates how intelligent he is.
Even when entrants numbered more than 5k-7k he still gets top 50 easy. He will always be great and strong and a heck of an inspiration and a leading light at the center of FGC, even when he doesn't burn with the same fire to win. I just appreciate him and his take on playing SF.
Back in college during my english courses, I gave a presentation to my teacher and classmates about fighting games. I showed them EVO Moment #37: the whole class was so hyped, even though they didn't really know much about fighting games or competitions. 12 Years later, I'm still playing and loving fighting games. Like a lot of us, Daigo & Justin were the ones who got me into it.
Daigo and Justin are the legends who I look up to for motivation and inspiration to keep me going and practicing when playing fighting games or any games for that matter even outside gaming.
