I think the Steelers have two mediocre quarterbacks. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Wilson’s strength is probably experience and a beautiful deep ball; his weakness is too high of a Time-to-Throw (TT) number - 3.06 - and not seeing wide-open receivers, and maybe taking sacks - I think Russ averaged 3 sacks per game in Denver from memory. The QB School guy has a video out there showing Wilson not seeing wide-open receivers so listen to him. Now Fields’ strength is probably running and evading rushers; his weakness is poor passing mechanics and I think his completion percentage is around 60, at least 6 to 7 points lower than he should be at this point. But neither guy is “elite” at this point so pick your poison. (I just looked and Justin has a 4-3 TD-2-INT ratio for his career, alright I suppose, although you want to see 3.)

The question I have for Florio is what happens when Russ does well and Justin does well too and handles the situation. My question is can the Steelers pay both ? As a Steelers fan my dream is two years of Russ and then Justin. My other part of that question is, say both do well but there is a good QB in the draft (doesn't look good supposedly now) that Tomlin and Khan really love, with no money on a QB currently the Steelers can pay to move up, do they do that ? If they Sign Russ to a two year guarantee, 3 year total extension after a great season, do the Steelers trade Fields for some draft capital to make a run with Russ or try to keep him as a sure back-up. Also how much capital would that leave Mr. Rooney to pay his players to make a real run at another Lombardi. In my mind Fields feels more like an insurance plan than the future but if I'm wrong and he slays it that's awesome

I’m a die hard Bears fan, born and raised in Chicago. You steeler fans need to understand that Fields played with a horrible Oline, terrible OCs, and absolutely zero Wrs. His first 2 years his top wr was Darnell Mooney. I was ashamed how the front office treated him and gave him 0 help and gave him a supporting cast. DJ Moore had his career high in yards 1,300 and TDs 8 with JF1. I love my Bears but we did JF dirty and never gave him a chance to succeed. Your Steelers have an amazing organization, HC, Wrs and most importantly a great Oline. He will ball out in the Black and Yellow.

I like Justin’s spirit. He has much work to do, his anticipation, play recognition, and ability to read coverages has to improve if he’s ever going to become a quality starting QB. I think he can do it if he puts his mind to it. Time will tell, he’ll get his chance, however, it will be after Russ is done. Even though Justin is younger and is by far the better athlete, Russ is still by in large the better quarterback it’s not even a debate.

Russ was requested by the guys on the Steelers! He had a lot of advocates on the Steelers. They WANTED him. Russ has learned from the criticism he has received. It’s crazy that people don’t understand why the Steelers became such an attractive trade option to the Bears front office after Russ signed. Fields had requested Pittsburgh when Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph were the QBs. He wasn’t planning on completing with Russ, and frankly he’s nowhere near Russ’s level as a passer, nor does he play as well in the clutch. *Justin Fields’s 3-Year Career Stats* Pass attempts: 958 Pass completions: 578 Completion%: 60.3% TD-INT: 40-30 Passing yards: 6,674 Passer rating: 82.3 *Rushing yards: 2,220* *Rushing yards/yr: 740* *Rushing TDs: 14* *Rushing attempts: 356* *Rushing y/a: 6.2* Sacks: 135 Sacks/yr: 45 Yards lost: 908 Yards lost per sack: 6.7 Fumbles: 38 (11 Lost) On pace for 152 fumbles over 12 seasons with 44 lost. Fields takes them because he can’t read the field! __________________________________________ *Russ’s Career Statistics* Pass attempts: 5,665 Pass completions: 3,668 Completion%: 64.7% TD-INT: 334-106 Passing yards: 43,653 Passer rating: 100.0 Rushing yards: 5,307 Rushing yards/yr: 442 Rushing TDs: 29 Rushing attempts: 981 Rushing y/a: 5.4 Sacks: 527 Sacks/yr: 43.9 Yards lost: 3,464 Yards lost per sack: 6.57 Fumbles: 103 (32 Lost) Career 4th quarter Passer rating: 104 *Keep in mind that Russ’s career statistics include two subpar years in Denver in which both years skewed Russ’s stats downward.* If we were to discount Russ’s Denver years, Russ’s 3-year average stats would be that much better than Fields’s, and that would include two injury years in Seattle (2016 and 2021) that produced outlier statistics.

@DeCurtaRican

I thought media was supposed to be neutral. If the talking heads were really confident that Fields could outplay Russ - which sounds ridiculous as I type it - they would just let it happen. They wouldn’t need to issue instructions to the crowd to demand that Fields starts the first time Russ throws an interception! They can’t just let it happen because they know Russ is the better QB by far. The prospect of Fields starting over Russ is a bad joke, and it shouldn’t even be a conversation. It wouldn’t be if Fields were playing for the Falcons (without Pennix there), the LAR, or the NYJ, places where it would ironically be more realistic to expect him to step in and steal the starting spot. Their QBs are older and have had recent serious injuries. Russ is fully healthy and starting to look like Seattle Russ again, yet they want to say Fields should start over him. If Denver’s 2022 interim coach Jerry Rosberg had remained the head coach in Denver in 2023 instead of Sean Payton coming in, Russ would’ve set had career highs in yards and TD passes, because that arm of his was working like magic! Instead, he was sabotaged by Payton, who tried to tank away the season. Russ said and did things to create some negative impressions, but he doesn’t deserve to have his entire legacy distorted when he can still spin the rock like nobody’s business and still move. He had nearly 350 yards rushing last season on mostly non-designed runs. His career average is 442 yards. At one point, it was 550 yards but that was skewed upward by a 2014 outlier year on which he rushed for 849 yards. So his legs are not gone. Fields averages 700+ yards rushing, but he can’t spin the rick the way Russ can and doesn’t have Russ’s closing ability. In his three NFL seasons, Fields has a career 4th quarter passer rating of 53. Take the three worst years Russ had in his career and his 4th quarter passer rating is above 90. For his career, Russ has a 104 career passer rating. This talk of Fields starting over Russ is an absolute joke. Will people get serious? It’s crazy that people don’t understand why the Steelers became such an attractive trade option to the Bears front office after Russ signed. Fields had requested Pittsburgh when Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph were the QBs. All the Steeler podcasts have gone immediately to the Wilson vs.Fields topic because that discussion will garner excitement, division, and drama, which does make cash. I haven't seen a Steelers' podcast yet that breaks down both Wilson's and Field's last two years of QB tape. That would clearly show why both were discarded and available at such a low value. That, to me, isn't being completely transparent for the shake of selling either hope for cash or to sow emotional division for profit.

It is a test for both, if they do not look much better than Rudolph or Pickett, they will bring in someone else next year. Wilson is pretty durable, and I doubt he will run much, he will have to exit for cause either for a game or a season. It doesn't have to be Pickett bad, but not winning or the offense against the good teams and try the other guy. It was the sub-20 performances against playoff teams Chiefs, Packers, Lions, Texans and averaging 24 or less most of the rest. The first 5 games mostly are teams that could be better but only Dallas (who they play at home) made the playoffs, if Wilson averages over 21 points and is above 500, he should last till the Ohio games.

@@CornealiusG24 people forget the bears as a whole has been bad and fields has been the only bright spot. He’s a good player easily good enough to start forget about 10 years from now , worry about the now . Nick foles helped the eagles win a SB and he wasn’t even a franchise QB

@Kolbi504 I agree with u my guy. I'm not here to bash the bears because I do think they're headed in the right direction. Poles seems like a smart and very tactful GM and I like all the pieces they have added. I don't think Fields should've been traded, but I'm not upset at it because I want to see caleb williams do good as well. I just don't do the fanboy sh!t. It's cool to like a team or player but it's dudes that come on here thinking they can question other individuals comments like they got professional knowledge when in actuality they just a fanboy. I can't get upset if someone don't see things the way I do. All I can do is disagree without dragging down players or making derogatory remarks to others. Sports is just entertainment so it's not that serious but I definitely agree with u the bears as a franchise have been horrible but hopefully Ryan Poles is changing that for the better.

When the first starting QB goes down, the Steelers have to try to trade Wilson and see what they have in Fields. Get a good pick for a league minimum salary and give Fields a real shot.

Russ can't throw down the middle of the field, holds on to the ball to long and is undisciplined in the pocket smh. The only hope he has with my Steelers is that we have a good running game so he'll be able to utilize play action more. And have more opportunities to run but he's a lesser shorter version of fields without the youth or upside. I'd start Fields

They both SUCK! Russ only gets buzz because he’s playing for free. He hasn’t been good for 4 years!! Fields has already shown you he’s not a franchise level QB. If he was that guy Chicago could’ve gotten a blank check for #1 overall pick this year!! The fact they traded Fields for a 6th tells you everything you need to know. Don’t lie to yourself, the Steelers QB room is just as limited as it’s been for 6-7 years. Just has bigger names in it…

What do you think made Russ the rookie starter in Seattle in the first place? It was Russ getting along with guys. He may not do everything his teammates do, but he gets along with them well enough that they trust him. All of this smoke-filled garbage! There’s no controversy, the media is just trying to create one! Notice how Simms pulled a Donald Trump right here, masking an instruction to the fans as a “prediction.” He’s not really predicting that fans WILL demand Fields if Russ doesn’t play exciting football but plays okay. He’s instructing and telling fans TO demand Fields. I listened to Nick Wright tell Collin Cowherd that Russ didn’t have a lot of advocates out there. How would he know this? It’s because he’s part of the movement, and whomever is pulling the strings and levers told him that. I hope the NFL isn’t turning into what I think it is. That is existing to push Russ out! And the exact argument that you made in favor of Fields could be said about Russ. This idea that he doesn’t get along with teammates is pure garbage. It’s about who leads the team to the wins. I’m convinced that they’re trying to push him out of the league. I have my theories about why, and it has nothing to do with Russ’s personality or play. I believe there’s specific reason that someone in a very high place with a lot of power has launched a silent campaign against Russ and is using the media to do it. In other words, Russ’s play and personality have nothing to do with entire media being on code: Russ either said or did something around late 2020 or early 2021 (the time of SB55) that angered someone with a lot of money and power. What was going on at that time? With whom did Russ inverse? talking to? With whom did he hang out? Did he go to the SB? With whom did he sit?
