Conor checked it dipshit it can still.land, casuals everywhere its the reaction and how u use it people already know its just fighters get lazy to execute leg blocks or evasions
I've actually noticed that a lot of fighters have been able to reduce some of the effects. I'm pretty sure they need to rest their chin for a while and they could take a better shot. They may not be as good as they were when they first started but resting definitely takes some of the effects off.
@@luckylarry3090 Rest/recovering is definitely essential. What sucks is that Junior dos santos got cut just because he wanted more time to recover before taking another fight.
@@GreenLightSpeed The only dumbass here is you. Did Conor defend Poirier's calf kicks? I'm 100% sure he didn't. Did all the calf kicks lead to his knockout? Yes it did. Calf kicks have been in the game for awhile and he didn't do shit.
You cant be serious. Everything he just said is basic standard stuff that everyone already knows. Even casuals like you. Gaethje's "masterful" advice for defending calf kicks was: 1. Punch them in the face 2. Check the kick with your knee (And my personal favorite) 3. Move out of the way... BRAVO!! GENIUS!!! (smh)
1:16 he's learned from the Poirier fight, he got finished by a left straight from southpaw when going in for a calf kick, and now he's teaching other guys to avoid his mistakes 👍🏽class act
Obviously a proficient leg kicker would know how to defend all sorts or leg kicks including the infamous calf kick Jose Aldo also knows how to defend it as well I appreciate Justin showing us his knowledge of the game
i love aldo's counter to the calf kick better cause no contact is made. where justins counter still lands on the knee. if not done right, one or both fighters could get hurt. aldos avoids any damage
@@troymiller4644 agreed. This all got messed up coz Dustin chose money fight. Otherwise title fight Dustin vs oliv and the winner of gaethje vs Chandler gets to fight new champ
@@Orthodoczee I am happy Dustin's getting paid although it does mess things up. I almost would have liked to see the rematch with Poirier/Gaethje: last two ICs who both got beat by Khabib.
@@willyharris4199 You don't see as many calf kicks in Muay Thai though, due to the stance being taller and more square. I've seen guys fake a regular leg kick to draw out a check and then go underneath with a kick to the calf of the standing leg, but that's mostly it.
@@justalurker3489 they aren’t thrown as much because they don’t work, they get blocked, I agree it’s because the stances are different and the MMA stance places more weight on the lead leg, but you’d have thought someone would have adapted some form of stance which eliminates such a basic kick, being such an influence in winning a fight
@@willyharris4199 I think it's because guys aren't as able to cover up as safely. I think it was a Kickboxer who mentioned that the cover-up the leg check is a super basic defense that you don't see in MMA due to the smaller gloves, so people try head movement instead. And of course outside slips and rolls again put weight on the lead leg. It's a really good weapon not because it's uncounterable, it's good because it combines well with other attacks in away that makes it hard to deal with both.
Nah it was those body shots that changed up that fight. I'm so glad Poirier is finally getting the credit he deserves dude is nasty and everyone sleeps on him. Til he sleeps Connor and now everyone on his nuts lol. Crazy how you gotta beat Connor to become a star these days. Connor ain't shit
I think we've all been wondering what the answer was going to be to those nasty calf kicks. The trick is going to be getting the knees in place fast enough.
and that lead hook he showed at the beginning. you can't keep your guard all the way up when you're throwing a round kick so that's a smart observation as well
One thing I've seen that the muay thai fighters in Thailand do is that they lift their front leg and move their foot so that the kick lands on their heel. Now that's gotta hurt the kicker a LOT.
@@Maazitung The Muay Thai stance is good against leg kicks as you can protect your lead leg well however it changes your stance into being a lot more squared up
The step back is absolutely the biggest key to this! old school Benny the Jet had a video somewhere talking about how to properly check low kicks, since he was one of the first full contact karate guys back in the day to take it to the Thai fighters back in the day. But he said if the low kick is coming to the lead leg that step back and outward toe point was the best possible way because if they commit to the kick and it misses you created distance and a new angle with the step back adjustment and if it still connects it’s more likely to make contact with the knee which is no fun for the kicker.
@@sagivijayaramaraju1153 yeah.. that's why i said "countered/defended the LAST".... the one that mattered. I think Dustin let himself get kicked on that one because he was ready to counter
@@gamebred6995 he gassed out after the first round against khabib lol go watch the fight again 🤣🤣 reason why he doesn’t even wrestle at all it’s becase he doesn’t have a good cardio, he even admitted that in a Inter almost 2 years ago
His best friend is a coach, and maybe one of the best coaches in MMA history, in Trevor Whittman. Take a look at how good Rose Namajunas is, compared to the other 99% of female fighters. She fights better than most guys.
@@Ritalie umm I think you might be lost we weren’t talking about the girls. And tbh your not friends with Trever lol you wouldn’t be on RU-vid comments if that was the case lol
no, khabib said to defend yourself from kicks you have to controll the pace and the distance. and thats what he did against barboza and gaethje. khabib is the smartest mma fighter I have seen probably
I love McGregor but does anyone else remember when he said muay Thai fighters like saenchai and buakaw are "too stiff" and robotic? Imagine what they'd do to him
They’d do absolutely nothing to him. Conor is a UFC MMA Elite fighter, the others are Muay Thai fighters fighting bums. Conor beats both those small fries.
I’m a huge fan of Gaethje and there’s no doubt he’s one of the toughest warriors to ever get in the cage. But being the brawler that he is and having been in some all out wars in the octagon, the damage is clearly taking a toll on his speech and if it isn’t already, soon will lead to cognitive brain issues. But these are issues many fighters face. Some also end up with mental health problems and/or substance abuse issues, which hopefully Justin avoids. I just hope he can make a ton of money, spend it wisely and live a comfortable life when his fighting career is over. For now I’ll appreciate every second he spends entertaining the fans by risking his life in that cage
So the way you defend the calf kick is by countering with your own shot, stepping far back, or turning your leg out But all seriousness, everyone is going to talk about dustin and conor, so you telling me, didin't step back from dustins kicks or didin't check them? Of course he the only problem was he wasn't checking properly thats was the main downfall
Honestly the fight to make is gaethje vs mcgregor.....both coming off of a loss....it sells ppv just as much or more than poirier vs mcgregor 3....that’s the fight I want to see if it does happen
This is some crazy insight. Never seen any pro fighter teach how to check a calf kick. Now we’re getting it from the dude with the best leg kicks in the UFC lol
@@romharjamesramos8324 hard to say who is the absolute best leg kicker, but both Aldo and Gaethje are on the list so the point that one of the best is showing a counter is still valid
Jesus loves you so much ❤️ I was addicted to porn, I was on drugs, alcohol, I hated people, he set me free and he can set you free aswell ❤️ all you have to do is repent and trust in him and he will change your life!! ❤️
Gaethje should have the titĺe fight...i feel like chandler will brutalise olivier...easy way for him to get the belt...gaethje would have been the ultimate test for him!!!
ian, you underestimate the mature Do Bronx. I love JG, but unless he KOs Charles in the first exchange, Charles will take him down and very quickly submit him. I think Dana knows this. Chandler may well submit him too, but JG has a better chance there. We shall see if JG can take the kind of overhand right missile that slept Hooker and one Pitbull brother.
Did u guys notice that he learnt all this after getting knocked out by Poirier Inside leg kick by Justin and then Poirier with the left punch boom🔥 Champion heart doesn't loose they just learn lessons 🔥
I've been thinking about these for a while because they seem so hard to counter, I do not know how effective this would be but if you cannot move out the way maybe use your back leg and lift your foot up so the bottom is blocking the calf like how you would set up a triangle but stood up the bottom of your foot absorbs the impact. The bottom of your foot is hard and can take a bit of impact but being on 1 leg opens up take downs. I don't know how effective that idea would but would love someone to test it.
a regular calf kick is easier to check sure but fighters like Izzy will mix a lower calf kick into the mix and feint between the two. Which is significantly different and would devastate the lower calf area when you turn your knee out in attempt to check. 🙏
WHY IS THIS GUY STANDING RIGHT IN JUSTINS SPACE THE WHOLE TIME?! It's bizarre! He's sticking to him like glue... it's really bugging me.. WHY? Is that his body guard or something, coz that is how he's behaving... Very off putting.
Its easy to teach it but hard to do that black guy is thinking omg i know how to defend it but once he got kicked boom in his mind hes already saying oh hell no chill out
Everyone in the comments going on and on about how McGregor needs to learn this technique. If you look at the highlights most of the kicks hit his inner thigh and he also turned his shin out EXACTLY like this guy is saying in this video more than half the time. Seriously, calf kicks did not win that fights nor were they are damaging.
