Mother cooked okra in a way that it wasn't gummy. It's hard to remember ,now. I wish I had written her steps down. She enjoyed okra and tomatoes ,but only cooked that and grits when Dad wouldn't be home for supper. He was a small town doctor ,and sometimes had an emergency . I miss them both.

OMG!!! Growing up in South Mississippi, I had the tomatoes and okra quite often. And the way he’s cooking that…mmm, mmm, mmm?? What I wouldn’t give to have a big pot of that right now. I think I’ll have to cook it one of these weekends coming up.

When Wilson says American cheese, he typically means cheddar cheese, or rat-trap cheese as he also calls it.
