Petri, Ive seen some discussion that the better translation concept would be "content". Happiness is usually a bit more effervescent and smiley... That is not really the Finnish style! 😁. BUt Finns **are** content with their lives, knowing that their nation (and their neighbors) look out for their wellbeing.
@@jackjuggernaut it was obvious. only way Finland could have won was if another country stole some juries votes from Sweden like in 21 France and switzerland splitting the juries votes
The pallets on the stage are europallets (an europallet have a specific dimension, otherwise it's not an europallet). Pallet in Finnish is lava, and lava means also stage (playing with words). So it's Eurostage, for the Eurovision songcontest. This is the reason for the pallets.
The song is quite unique (pop song) because of the two-part-structure. But there is a reason for it. It actually causes a sort of a catharsis like in horror movies, that cause anxiety, and are ultimately violent, and in the end, the beast is beaten, and everything returns to normal. The viewer has survived. In Cha cha cha the listener is kept in a tight hold in the beginning. The singer (story-teller) has had a wearysome week, stressed out and serious. However, he wants to get in the club to dance. Like so many people in Finland, and in Europe, he needs some alcohol to get free from norms and stop caring about what other people think of his dance. So he sips a bit more, until... The mood changes. Suddenly. In the lyrics. On the stage. In the song. That is where the song splits in two different songs, as he has had enough of encouragement and he hits the dance floor with his silly, not so professional dance moves. But he does not care anymore. He dances like cha cha cha until he passes out like cha cha cha. This kind of storytelling is quite rare in song lyrics and structres. On the surface it truly is about going to a party and drinking, and musically it is just a song with electronic background. From the beginning it is close to electronic rap metal before it becomes just danceable pop. And since there is rap, metal, dance, electronic, and eventually pop, you choose what genre it is. But Käärijä has said that it is difficult to label his music. Although he is a rapper, he is a big fan of Rammstein and more than once he has said that he got initially enthusiastic about Eurovision Song Contest due to Ukrainian comedian / singer Verka Serduchka's Dancing Lasha Tumbai. In the mixture, it becomes somewhat progressive pop, electronic or even rap music.
Slogan for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is "United By Music". 🇫🇮 Käärijä does it! Everyone in Liverpool arena will sing Cha cha cha! ❤ If he wins, give him Pina Colada!🍹
Yep - it's a party song. He (= Käärijä) surprised me as much as you when I heard it for the first time. I also like the fact that he sings in Finnish. Greetings from Finland.
The story in the lyrics goes basically like this: First verse: He's had a long week behind and can't wait to have fun but just like many Finns he can't just go and party on the dancefloor because he lacks the courage. So it's time to start drinking. Second verse: He's had a few drinks already, but it's not enough. But the night is still young and there's time to drink some more. The dancefloor does look inviting, though. Bridge/second part of the song: Literally starts with "Now I go dancing" and he's not afraid of looking dumb going crazy on the dancefloor anymore. He's so drunk that he can't even see straight.
I'm from Finland and I remember I was shocked when this won but now I'm liking it more and more. You are so right, it's a crazy own genre. I can't figure it out 😅 First some kind of heavy/rap then a pop song 😅
You asked about genre- It's fusion of at least electronic music, heavy metal, rap and k-pop. Maybe something else, as well. Käärijä himself calls it party metal. Or, as he also says: "It's party, it crazy".
💚this is my favorite eurovision2023 song but you'll want to watch the whole video without a break.💚and how käärijä says the music genre is party/metal!💚 sry bad english💚
The first time I heard it I was SO confused and couldn't enjoy it because I couldn't figure it out. Then i googled it a bit and someone in a comment described it as "the typical party night of a finnish man" which is grumpy/aloof -> PArTyYYYY -> pensive/calm/depressed. Crystal clear, and I could enjoy the song again! Also the hard work week he mentions in the beginning can be seen as the last few years of pandemics and wars, from which we ALL need to cut loose even for a few minutes of silly dancing.❤ Greetings from Finland! 😘
This is actually a great explanation! 🙂 However, I don't think it has the last "pensive/calm/depressed" ending - I think the guy just passes out in the end. (As a native Finnish speaker.)
I think Käärijä is a bit similar to the German band Electric Callboy: They mash up different genres, from rock parts to pop parts to electronic parts to techno parts, etc. with lyrics that are mostly funny and stick in your head. I can see Finland in the Top 5 in the final!
Kääriä is out of this world. Not my cup of tea, at all. But I can't help it. I can not turn my eyes away and right leg starts beating and when i force it stop - head starts nodding! Cha, cha, ch-ch-ch-chaaa! 🤘
I watched another person's reaction video and they said something quite profound. There are two things you can't help doing. One is laughing at something you think is funny, and tapping your feet/nodding along to a song. This song definitely fits in the feet tapping/head nodding category.
The funny thing is that guys in Finland don't drink Pina Colada nor do they dance cha cha cha at the weekend (at least they never used to) so they are symbolic. The 💚 jacket is actually his shell. Escaping the shell he is connected to dancers who become a caterpillar. More symbols. Pina Coladas beer and champagne loosen his inhibitions and he hits the dancefloor. Electro tech repetitive becomes tuneful Finnish pop. The work week was exhausting enough but dancing in the club full of booze leads to collapse. Genius!
Rough translation. Tough week but it's Friday. Time for clubbing. But too inhibited to hit the dancefloor. Beer helps. Gotta hold it with two hands tho. Cha Cha Cha. A Piña Colada. Now two. Cha cha cha. I can't sit here much longer! WOW!!!. Hold your drinks everyone ! I'm going over the top! Cha cha cha. Let's cool the rap with some Suomipop. The chrysalis reveals a centipede. Who cares if I can't dance? This is Eurovision!. Even the cha cha cha dancers are dancing my dance version! Swing those elbows!! It's crazy. It's party! Cha cha cha -ah ha- Cha Cha Cha Cha Cha!
I found out on RU-vid by totally accident already years ago this video type meaning reactions to different music. There were from USA kids' reactions to AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Metallica etc..,but this is something so amazing. In literally only a few weeks' time RU-vid has been bulldozed by and with these all these reactions to Cha Cha Cha. As if everyone who has some kind of YT-channel wanted so badly to do it!And it is super!😁😁😁😊😊😊😉🙃🤗🤗🤗🤭😗
An interesting little find - the song, and your channel. I haven't been paying too much attention to Eurovision lately (we got banned/left or whatever (*sigh*) but I'm glad I did because I love finding unique stuff like this. Not sure if it can win but it's bound to be top 3. I if does though, it deserves it. Käärijä is such a fun guy. Jó az angolod amúgy! Jó kiejtés, kifejezőkészség, magabiztos (az öcsém tanulhatna tőled :P). Good luck with the channel! ✨
Enjoyed watching you watch it. One of the things I like about the performance is that it's original. It's not another power ballad or following a formula but tries to tell a new story. When he begins he's an introverted guy who is being all Rammstein and hard exterior. But he wants to relax, dance and be himself. So he is drinking to defeat his own defences: he succeeds. Then he can go out on the dancefloor like he wants to - it switches to the J-pop/K-pop tone once he does that. I'm half-Finnish so maybe can relate. Can definitely relate to the need to get drunk to overcome shyness. Really liked your listen-along, thank you.
I was so surprised before you said that you watched a video of how to pronounce käärijä. Your prononciation is way better than many other peoples :) im from finland!
The song is basicly about to get drunk, get relaxed and easy, and dare to dance Cha Cha Cha. In first part he is still sober, but drinking PinaColadas, and in the second part he is drunk
Rough translation: A tough week and a lot of long days ahead Piña colada and rata are interesting The evening is still young and time to undo It's time to destroy this icy outer shell I hold the drink with both hands like that Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, no I don't think about tomorrow when I grab a pint like that Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, no I want to be messy and free from worries like that Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, no And I will continue until I can no longer stay in the chair like that A few piña coladas are already behind Still, I still have a serious face plate (yeah, yeah, ye-ye-yeah) The evening is still young and time to undo It's time to destroy this icy outer shell Parquet calls me when I'm no longer locked Like Cha Cha Cha I'm coming I hold the drink with both hands like that Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, no I don't think about tomorrow when I grab a pint like that Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, no I want to be messy and free from worries like that Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, no And I'll continue until I can't stay in the chair like that anymore Now I'm going to dance Like Cha Cha Cha And I'm not afraid of this world Like Cha Cha Cha When I pour champagne on myself Cha, cha, cha, one eye is already squinting And the talk gets bogged down as this other side gets the upper hand Cha, cha, cha, I'm not even a lazy man I'm not, but today I'm that man, today I'm that man Now I'm going to dance Like Cha Cha Cha And I'm not afraid of this world Like Cha Cha Cha When I pour champagne on myself Like Cha Cha Cha Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, aha Like Cha Cha Cha Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, Cha Cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, Cha

Finnish guy here. First of all, personally, I'm not a fan of the song. But now that we have that out of the way, here's an explation. The tone shift in the middle is entirely intentional and justified by the lyrics. A man after a tiring weekend goes to a bar, still kind of down, takes a few drinks for encouragement, then goes on the dancefloor, let's go of all inhibitions and starts to party, pouring champagne on him, dancing like there's no tomorrow. There are a lot of filler words in the lyrics, especially "niinku", which translates to "um, like". I am not a fan of the lyrical content and that type of music is really not my thing, but some people seem to like it. To each his own.
Its about hard week at word and weekend comes and he sings how this other side of him takes over. Alcohol (he sings about pina colada and beer) and you get a finnish man to the dance floor😂 it's all about letting go and have fun! After work.. 😂
from how i understand it the heavy part is him going out with the goal of getting shit faced. and the lighter part is when he finaly is drunk enough to let go, relax, and have fun on the dance flor
I have no idea where the name Käärijä comes from, but from the sound of it, it means a person who puts something in a roll, like egg roll, sushi, tobacco, weed. Kääriä = put (something) in a roll, wrap something, "kääriä marisätkä" = "roll a joint", "kääriä sätkä" = "roll a cigarette".
@@PekkaSallinen i think you nained it "The themes of Käärijä revolved very strongly around gambling in the beginning, and the same theme is partly present in today's production. His stage name comes from a joke among his friends and refers to winning money, or "rolling up", in gambling."
The lyrics remind me of the scetch with the Swedish comedian Robert Gustavsson. A finnish guy is out on the club and is too shy to engage in anything. Then gets some alcohol in him and then he dares to open up...and then things escalates quickly. This one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NAl9OyGYxOg.html Im happy for Finland, even though I think the song is a bit too tasteless for me (the human centipede was like...oof) :p It is certainly fun though! Best of luck from Sweden!
No offense to you, but I cannot understand, as a Finn, where this amazement is coming from. I could be a grandma, but check out Madonna's Like a Prayer/Sticky and Sweet Tour 2008 and her best tour work. Pop/techno/rock was invented a long time ago.
let's have shallow explanation of the song. If you are genre person. bass in the beginning are more like hard style + rap, then it becomes dance/trance/metal...electric callboy does it way better. end of the song is more like dance...very finnish though germans would agree with their schlager. There is normal structure of the song which is (pop): a,b,a,b,c,b and b as many times as you can. If you don't get a is verse, b is chorus, c is middle part what enhances coming chorus, maybe you learned of pop song structure. This one doesn't follow that rules...that's why it might feel weird
