Holy crap that's actually amazing, I often forget how much penetrative capability APFSDS has against just RHA

I was wrong, but try to hit the weak spot from 4 km distance...

APSFDS ability to just don't care about all but most out of the ass angles of hit is just amazing.

It would be interesting to see what damage WW2 projectiles like PzGr 39 would do to a modern armor

Knew ERA would work at a shorter distance. I picked the closer option. 1. T-80U (non upgraded ones) doesn't really have thermal optics, so good luck against the MGS at 4km 2. APFSDS even at very long range, still somewhat retains their performance characteristics

Is it possible to simulate how a damaged tank barrel (i.e. got shot by another tank) would react if the crew decided to shoot it anyway?

As i imagined i was right to choose 0.4km with ERA, the effects of this layer of protection are really something to have in mind.

Hi Dejmian. Could you do similar simulation but wit Nozh on t64(or t-80U for consistency with previous simulations, dosent really matter)? Would be interesting to see how it can perform depending on the place of impact e.t.c.

Feels like 1-2 inch either way is a penetration. Up because it will enter the hatch and deflect down, down because it will hit closer to the fillet and not get deflected into the area supported by the hatch.

Hey Dejmian, great sim as always. I wanted to ask if, for fun, you could simulate a triple bounce. I was playing my AMX-50 and an IS3 shot the upper glacias, the shell ricochet hitting the lower part of the turret, then ricochet again off the upper part of the turret flying almost straight up. Just a fun idea.

Could you make the T-80U 89/UD with the ceramic upper glacis, and a shot similar to the T-90A sim with no ERA? DM33 like the T-90A sim, ceramic is silicon carbide according to available information, layout is 55mm steel + 35 SiC + 35 steel + 5mm air + 35 SiC + 50 steel, same BTK-1 steel like the T-90A, to test if this upper front plate layout is stronger than the T-90A one

Yeah, can't believe I was right choosing ERA. But you know, APFSDS are thin and distance is not a problem, but a plate of steel flying perpendicularly into round - certainly is.

Would like to know where you are getting information on K-5 composition and effectiveness? I have this feeling that if ERA was this highly effective, NATO would be packing on ERA everywhere. instead, the US specifically has stated that while ERA is effective against chemical rounds, HEAT, its effect against kinetic penetrators is questionable or not significant enough to warrant its use. This is a military that uses DU rounds that are not significantly better than tungsten. Which is why alot of NATO partners do not attempt to use them. They also think that DU rounds are radioactive, showing they do not really understand the word depleted or that if the rounds were significantly radioactive, the crew members of Abrams tanks would be growing third eyes or showing an increase in cancer.

surprising that the round was DU, it seemed very brittle and broke apart right after the era plate hit the projectile, thought it was steel penetrator 😅

I was expecting it to hit lower where it would face both angled plates, seems like it only worked because the explosives deflected it into a thick section.

Hey dejmian. I was wondering if you can do Ukraine projectile from t64bv, againsed a t90a turret at different angles or slightly below the turret composite armor. The t90a has a lot of weak positions on the turret.

ERA was primarily made against Shaped charges and not Kinetic penetrators.

Just goes to show and remind us that ERA is an integral part of the armour design in post-Soviet/Russian tanks and not just an "add-on" or an afterthought. Also, I'm glad I voted right ;)

And this is the same gun fitted to the T55SM from Slovakia & now serving in Ukraine...& the Leopard 1 that are being refurbed from storage. Russian tanks don't stand a chance against thsi & the new 120mm Western tanks..Slava Ukraini
