k.d.lang - Bird On A Wire 

Love how K.D's spirit always seems so free. She has a great talent and beautiful personality.

but what does she have this kd, she sings the songs of other composers and it looks like they were written for her. Whenever I hear her sing Halleluhah, the valley, like a bird, crying, I always feel like she's the one who wrote them. It looks like the authors have written for her. She takes them so much and sings them with so much heart and intensity, that she seems to be living these songs. I love kd ♥♥♥

Each time I reach this spot and hear k.d.'s version tears well in my eyes. "If I have been untrue...it was not to you..."

This song has been covered reasonably well by so many artists that the listener is left expecting to be routinely underwhelmed by each new version that comes along. But, against all the odds, kd has managed to go deeper inside the song, and turn it into a 'Hallelujah'.

I'm not a music snob. But this is the only version that respects the original. What a surprise to stumble on.

@greasemonkey1228 K.D may have been a cousin to Judy Collins. They once lived in a small community at the same time. Most in the community were cousins, most French, some French/aboriginal dna. There would be a difference of about ten to fifteen years between both singers. KD had permission from the composer of Bird on a Wire which had been released thru Cohen to hid the id of the composer...rite?

Just love this Leonard Cohan song. But i think that kd does it better than cohan himself. I think it is one of the great songs written ever.

i like this version which i never heard before. it is interesting. different from judy collins or l. cohen but it has its own personality. i don't think k.d. sounds tired especially as the song goes on you hear how strong her voice is. but i think she is choosing to sing certain parts more low for the interpretation. if that makes any sense.

@iriswigle Really? Leonard Cohen didn't write this song? Who did? Now I'm curious. That would be interesting if Judy and KD were related. BTW, there's a 22 year age difference between them. Judy was born in 1939 and KD was born in 1961.
