I agree to a point, but don’t. We don’t see her much commercially, but her fan base is huge. She,to me, is right up there with some of the best singers of our time.
You know....the thing about k.d. that slays me is her vocal restraint. If she wanted to she could blow the ceiling off the recording studio with every song she chose. A TRUE ARTIST understands the power of subtlety. Just sublime! ✌
Bit of KD Lang trivia for everyone. When Vancouver Canada hosted the Olympics they had asked Leonard Cohen to sing his song Hallelujah and he said of course. Then they told him it would be a duet with KD, he said absolutely not I won't do that. When asked why he said when KD Lang released her version it was so much better than his that it became her sing and she deserved to sing it alone without him "holding her back". He told that story in interviews many times after. He's a huge fan of hers 😊
I believe she stands above them all. Her voice is versatile, she can sing anything. And when she does sing, colors appear and float in the air, painting beautiful scenes. Truly no one like her; a once-in-a-lifetime singer and performer.
I loved the music she recorded before she changed backup bands. Love everything she did with the Reclines, but when she changed to Siss Boom Bang, it wasn't the same for me. I attended two concerts of hers and loved the first one. The second one was disappointing. It took me a while to figure out why because it was right around the time she changed bands, but that was the reason.
Crying, Hallelujah, Constant Craving, Blue Velvet, and so many other songs K.D. Lang blew out of the water. She has such an unusual sound and great unique interpretation of many part hits. It made them sound like brand new songs.
K D kills it every time, doesn't matter what the song is, she makes it her own. Kathryn Dawn Lang was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1961. When she was less than a year old the family moved to Consort, Alberta and that's where she grew up.
She is one of the few performers I've seen live (Jennifer Holiday being another) whose voice is not fully captured by studio recordings. The last time I saw k.d. live she got seven standing ovations DURING her set, and was on first before another artist. Truly a spectacular voice, and her emotional connection to her songs is palpable.
KD Lang is in the stratosphere when it comes to her artistry. Her rendition of this song is hauntingly beautiful. The slide steel guitar in the beginning captures you instantaneously. Also, KD and her bassist have a connection that is sublime. 🔥✨
When Roy Orbison did Black & White Night KD Lang sang backup with 2 other female singers ( a very young Bruce Springsteen also did harmony & guitar ). Then she sang a great duo with Roy's Crying. After his death she sang a solo of Crying. WOW! She truly is a great artist! Thank you!
I'd never heard this: Thank you KD again and again. Beauty on this Earth .. Your reaction is right on, Harri. I saw her live w my boyfriend, who wasn't interested/ didn't know her. He was as completely blown away as I was I, even tho I'd listened to her CDs a hundred times. In person she's even better because you have her voice and her incredibly beautiful energy.
Gorgeous gorgeous vocals...always with this singer. Makes me proud to be Canadian :D She does no crazy runs or acrobatics with her voice other than pure, angelic sounds! :)
She is someone you can never UNHEAR! I love this song with her and she helped me get through a rough patch hearing it over and over along with Hallelujah!
kd is an angel from heaven who used to sing to the newborns before they got delivered but got in a bit of trouble so had to become human to repent. If you try hard enough you will remember her singing to you.
From KD's 1997 album, " Drag", this was made popular by The Hollies. KD has made this version a slow bluesy masterpiece with her beautify voice drawing you fully into a peaceful state. Such a treat. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Debbie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
k.d. is from another universe, possibly even heaven. Her voice is like silk. She can sing anything and she does take you to other places..... she gives chills.... she's a force to be reckoned with. You should do a reaction to her video from here of Patsy Cline's in care of the blues on David Letterman I believe it was.....
She sings about the air that she breaths and I have just realized I have been sitting her holding my breath while listening, I guess that is the definition of BREATHTAKING
Kd is the most awesome singer I've loved her music and unusual voice no other singer comes close to her talent this song she sings is one of my favourites ❤️
I once read an interview with a classmate of hers in high school then another classmate at music school .... Both said the same thing: KD would start singing in the cafeteria band the entire place would go quiet and just listen to her. They both also said EVERYONE knew she'd be famous bc of her singing.
I saw KD only once. It was just before her first album came out, so I had no idea who she was. She was performing in a Calgary Stampede saloon when she was still wearing her granny skirts and cowboy boots. I swear that whole rowdy bar crowd was transfixed. We all knew we were witnessing something magical.
So pleased and privileged to have seen her preform live . Amazing .I would say she is an underrated artist . Though I don’t see why she should be , she’s absolutely outstanding , what a voice .
Finally reaction videos to kd…. My all time fav singer…. Saw her in concert many times… and she is 1000% better than her albums which are extraordinary in themselves… I suggest reviewing her concert from Sydney. In the late 90s one track at a time…. You will be blown away.
Debbie - I have long admired K.D. Lang, from Alberta, Canada) is a vocalist with an incredible range and vibrato. Great submission and review Harri. Barvo!!
This lady demonstrates that she can take you places that will mesmerize you! She can do an amazing vibrato so quietly that you want it to go on forever. It leaves one almost as if you are in a trance. She is a fabulous fabulous artist! And the person narrating this is so good at what he does. I want more and more of this!!!
She is so amazing. I absolutely adore her voice. I haven't seen anything from her for a long time and I appreciate you posting this, reminding me of her unique voice.
My first time here. Real nice video. Enjoyed it alot. I was 13 when the original came out which I adored. I love kd lang and the wondeful band. Amazing musical rendition.
I’ve never heard this particular song done by K.D. Lang before and, to no surprise, it’s fantastic. The opening instrumental of the song is unique for starters. I love this song but, Miss Lang does her magical delivery and just knocks it into the stratosphere. As a fellow Canadian, I think this lady is an amazing talent and her voice is pure gold in my opinion.👍👍🇨🇦
Terrific tune of hers I had never heard before. This song sits in a pocket of sadness, and it is sublime. Highly recommend you give her rendition "Help Me" originally by Joni Mitchell. And also, strongly suggest you deep dive into Joni Mitchell herself - one of the few I'd consider a genius.
That whole album is remarkable. Her voice is so naturally crisp and clean. I've worn out 3 CD's and am on the hunt for another! If you haven't heard her version of the Roy Orbison hit Crying then you've missed out!
K d lang has a lot of great country style songs as well as the great ballads. On her album Absolute Torch and Twang you should try "Three days". A great and versitile band too.
I love her country stuff. I saw her perform in small halls in Vancouver in the early 1980s. At that time, she would do a great version of “Chapel of Love” dressed in a wedding dress and veil. With total breath control and without missing a note, she would hold the mike stand and bend backward all the way to the floor and back up to standing again. All of Canada was in love with her then.
