Yeah I feel like herein lies the problem. The music industry but maybe moreso kpop strives for perfection. Like they WANT you to put idols on a pedestal (they're called idols for a reason after all). Because of that, mistakes are no no's. Hence ^ the video. And who are more easily fooled by the tactics used? It do be teens/young adults. A recipe for disaster, sadly 😔

it doesn't change the fact that it was a poorly edited video based on the fact that the person behind this channel doesn't have the qualifications to tell whether said idol is lip syncing or not. if you watched the whole live you would know that he explained what the difference is between live, pre-recordings, and lip sync. did the person get some of these things right? yes, but i would take that whole video as constructive criticism if that person didn't add an unecessary remark in one of the videos where comments are saying that they're performing live but to them, its not as if they're the lip sync police.

This was cute tho. Stanning Stay Kids is a great time and majority Stays are really nice.

Ok but Chan is such a sweetheart. I love his VLives. He's always so well spoken and honest with us. I love how he went into detail about how they do pre-recordings, so many people don't notice idols have to film the same stage over and over at like 4 in the morning. The examples you have at 2:52 you must have hawk eyes I never noticed the twice one!
He’s very respectful and knowledgeable idol which I am very proud to call my bias/stan. He always point out and educate fans the reality of kpop which others cant really tell. So I appreciate Chan so much. Hope you do check them out. ♥️

Well, it is true that 4th gen is focusing more on performance and stage presence, hence it is usually the main dancers/visuals that get the most attention. I'm not saying that is is bad, but it does make me feel a bit concerned. As a fan of the Japanese idol music scene, Japan focuses more on live vocals as well as stage presence. Their dancing may not be as explosive as K-idols but they put in loads of hours into finding their own niche with their voices, and please the crowds at the same time. So I do hope, more trainees get the proper voice training theyr need, and get songs that complement their vocal range. Performance is important but we fans also come for the music.
I feel it's amped in kpop,while there's some western fans are crazy I find that they're not as crazy as kpop stans,they seriously take it into another level

Sorry for joining soooo late 😂 but a fellow Japanese artist’s fan here ❤ so I have to agree with you. It’s soooo hard to actually love kpop song but by our standard from how Japanese band usually perf, the underwhelmed feeling we had when watching K-pop’s supposedly live perf is just sad. I’m Indonesian and already went to 4concert in Japan (OOR n Kinki Kids) and always have the full live perf that more satisfying than the recording level to the point where I’m more listening to the concert recording or live perf more than the actual album. I’m liking svt recently but even tho they went to Jakarta twice for their Last tour I didn’t have the guts to go to their con. And u know how svt like having the best vocalist in this industry but still I’m afraid I will be disappointed if they’re not 100% live without backtrack , just how Japanese band would perf (I dunno how the recent tren in the Japanese idol con tho but LDH artist always without bactrack). It’s not the perfection that I want to experience but their raw energy in their vocal (well they are singer, right??!) which will surpass the recording level even tho there’s a lot of imperfections. I think u will know what I mean 😅

I honestly don’t get how people got so angry over this. You did research and got actual confirmation from an idol included in the video. I mean how much clearer could it be? Toxic stans are so delusional. This is why I've been a kpop fan for many years but can't properly talk to one. They just can't accept that their idol isn't perfect like the rest of us. If you know anything about music, you already know what the industry has been pushing and doing for years. I respect you af for bringing this all to light for fans, but of course they can't accept it. And I respect Chan for addressing it honestly. Autotune isn't necessarily a bad thing, guys. But what is bad is that it has become so normal that people refuse to believe what is real anymore.

this is so relatable have been a fan for a decade, and I literally just enjoy things with my sister, most fans are so close minded. And like you said anyone with musical background can notice this things and still enjoy it, like aknowledging that they are not singing live in a performance doesn't make me less of a fan.
Why can't people accept that lip sync exists and that it's only like maybe 10-20% actual live performances, because idols need to save their own voice and can't be singing live 24/7. It damages vocal cords. Any singer can tesitify.

Because you absolutely need it when dancing. I can't recall rn, but there are always examples of even pure singers, when needing to move more than they usually do, either take much rapid breathes or breath at different notes than they usually do, because humans need air, but alot of people don't realize it because they have never tried to move or dance and record their own voice. The only sad part is people prefer to repeat what others said than to try something out for themselves.

every video of chan that ive ever came across have always leave a good impression, including this one. appreciate how he didnt try to sugarcoat things and tried to explain things - but i guess maybe some people are too invested in one particular point, they missed out other important points. plus, i agree that your video didnt specifically focusing on any group, but rather kpop in general :)

This is what upsets me about fans (obviously not all of them). They cannot admit or do enough research about their artists. Shanlie DID do their research and it is correct. Chan is correct too. Using auto tune isn’t a bad feature. Your artists aren’t necessarily bad at singing if they use auto tune. People need to understand this. The video was actually very informative and understandable. The amount of perfection the companies want to reach is just immensely increasing the fans' standards at a level that's inhumane for any artist to reach. Dudes, they are humans too.. the live performances they show most of the times, atleast I don't believe it's possible for anyone to sing live with such heavy choreo. There's a big difference when sung live and an artificially improved version. That video was about educating ourselves on this matter, not calling out any group dudes! That’s what usually happens when a group would answer questions like “do you lip sync” “no we sing 100%” “never” “always live” etc. and not explain at all. The fans will hold on to that answer. I am very happy Chan explained it all, other groups may not get that from their idols but Im pretty sure most of them experience the same. Hopefully fans/content creators/idols (everyone as a whole) will be more respectful and spread information positively. ♥️

LOL why do kpop fans fight the truth? This is the reality. Sometimes I understand when a company chooses to protect the artist's voice. My childhood favorite J-rocker, Gackt , announced that he won't sing anymore because something is wrong with his vocal cords, he's in his 40s. Singers can lose their voices so I understand the need to protect their voice and not sing in every performance. It is bad though when the singer really can't sing and never could, but they've been chosen for their visuals. Then I do think their singing should be criticized because that spot could have gone to someone more talented at singing.
They hate you because you told the truth, as a K-pop fan myself, we should encourage the idols and the company label itself to train the idols singing while dancing at the same time and make techniques on how to sing while dancing. I know there are nice STAYs but once you get disappointed you only think about it. Ever since I saw that video I was searching for polite STAYs in social networking sites. Yet I was disappointed. That was a pure technical discussion. Quite surprised, but thinking deeper, how would the performers themselves don't know right, they probably know down to the exact brand and software name used for post production.

I remember saying recently that I miss Blackpink live vocals since they rarely sang live since 2020 and I got over 70+ replies. Some of them tried to manipulate me, saying that I'm an anti or that I actually don't know Blackpink live vocals. Kpop stans are different breed.

I posted a long reply under one of the more calmer yet still defensive comments and god some Stays just don’t understand…can’t even fathom the possibility that SKZ are anything less than perfect. They even used Chan’s vlive as “evidence” that he says SKZ “always sings live”, but nowhere in his video does he say that. I know the majority of these fans are young, but for those who are old enough to have proper reading comprehension should be embarrassed.

I'm a fan of a group that usually sings live, but they don't hide it when it's a lip sync (because they're just performing and it's obvious the backtrack is just insanely loud) so really, they've kept my expectations realistic for what to expect. Plus they're always randomly singing, so eventually those of us who listen to them a lot can distinguish if it's a recording or not. Thanks for bringing awareness to this, tough as it may be with so many who don't want to learn.

See, when saying an artist is lip-syncing, it is not hate, it is stating a fact...so there is no point in getting upset with the idols OR the person saying it is lip-sync..because it is neither of the parties fault. This isn't up to them, the company (like mnet, or KBS ,etc.) make these decisions.

I think the high expectations for the singers not making a single mistake or sounding breathless, makes it very difficult for them to actually want to sing live. This also prevents the from growing as a musician or vocalist, as the audiance has such false expectations for them.
