Short, sweet, and right on point. In my case the flashing didn’t stop in 30 seconds. However, when I let the buttons go it was synchronized. Life is good!
My 2020 1250RT using the same fob and keyed ignition, didn’t work by holding it by the instruments. I raised the screen and held the fob against the black plastic cowl behind the satnav (with ignition on), let go of the buttons and the alarm peeped once. Now works perfectly.
2013 K1600GTL with same key fob. I had to do it differently. I replaced the battery and the light stayed on. With the ignition turned on and while the key fob light was still on, i pushed button #1 twice and the key fob light went off. I turned the ignition off and my remote was working once again.
That does not look like the BMW key my K1600 came with, is it one you have added. Could showing this allow thiefs a way to steal a bike? Hopefully not..
My thoughts EXACTLY! Why does my 2018 key fob look nothing like the one in the video (which looks like the one in the manual). Yeah, I think BMW needs to revisit this. Maybe do a program of matching serial numbers with the bikes, the owners and the purchased key fobs. Now that I'm thinking about it, should a manufacturer be sued successfully for being an accessory to a crime and held liable, every manufacturer from Acura to Volvo will initiate a mandatory owner-fob-vehicle registry.
My bike is a 2013. The ignition key is separate from the remote/fob. In order to synch the remote, the ignition key is required. The ignition key has its own transponder that is recognized by a module on the bike. If someone purchased a remote, they would need my key to synchronize it. They could buy a key and have it cut to fit my ignition switch but if the computer is not programmed to recognize their key, they could not start the bike or synchronize a new remote. They could unlock the forks but that's about it.
