All touhou fans i know are either 1. the one who introduced it to me 2. the ones who were introduced by me sadly, they all moved on and i barely know any of the new 2hus
me being a 13 year old 2hu fan in 2020 kinda sucks simce there’s a whole generation in a time i was a little kid, but still i get to communicate with touhou fans and maybe catch up with old touhou stuff and i had missed opportunities to become a touhou fan as a kid, damn time goes fast
I know that Zun originally just created Touhou just as a vehicle for his music, but seriously, how can one man put out so many great tracks? Think about the mountain of half-finished stuff that he has lying around that none of us will ever hear... >_>
ZUN's note on this song is probably the most ambiguous for me. "Smooth, huh? (haha) This song brings out a feeling of aloofness. I dont express emotions through songs. I make songs with emotions. And really, the game makes the songs... "
I can imagine that as a composer because the tension of going up against a spell card that carries meanings, or the character with its personality and back-story, would eventually lead to a conclusive idea of how you want the music to turn out to be.
This song always gives me a sense of sadness and frustrated ambition - like Kaguya as a princess became really powerful but then got in over her head and had to rely on characters like Eirin and Inaba to clean up after her. That's my impression, but I've never played the games.
This song suits her perfectly. It sounds royal and majestic at some parts, as she's supposed to be, but it still manages to show how unstable and not totally sane she can be.
@@DesseDesseDesseDesse actually lunatic really just refers her as a lunarian, it doesn't actually refer to her being insane. The music being like this is more likely due to the situation being so excessive.
upon kaguyas arrival: "ah, kaguya. musnt be that hard, maybe at least as hard as eire-" middle of battle: *"OH GOD OH FUCK EVERYTHING IS BULLETS-"* last spell: *DISTANT SCREAMING*
In fanon, Eirin's assisstance is always called upon. Yet in Touhou 8, it's Kaguya who helps Eirin. I guess people should be saying "HELP ME, KAGUYAAAAA!"
@@explosivemodesonicmauricet1597 "thinking" Kaguya is REALLY a neet, in Touhou 8 Mokou state that Kaguya send assasins to kill Mokou, Kaguya is very lazy to kill Mokou.
My only problem with it was the difficulty curve, in every difficulty it just feels so weird going from the second to the third stage, it just spikes so much. Granted, it's touhou, if you don't know the patterns, kiss that booty goodbye.
Edgar Marques YES, I knowww, every Touhou game is a pain because you have to go through all the levels in one go, and heck it's hard as fuck. I remember once I reached the final stage in one of the Touhou games and died in the last stage, I didn't want to replay it all over T^T
It's really funny, my early memories of discovering Touhou are blurred, but I can vaguely remembering stumbling upon this video and really liking it, and I'm pretty sure RU-vid's recommendation system just threw Touhou at me me until I got hooked.
I don't get why so many people hate Kaguya.... I like both Mokou, Keine, AND Kaguya.... I mean, how do you hate Kaguya after reading Inaba of the moon and Inaba of the Earth? (How do you hate ANY of the characters in Touhou?)
well she just fooled her lovers and told them to get the items for her which was impossible since she had them the whole time. and mokous father was one of them. i personally despise her and her race.
"lovers" he says. That gave me a chuckle. Those "lovers" were a bunch of horny ass bastards who didn't know anything about her. Her impossible requests were just meant as a polite way to turn them down but most of them, like Mokou's father, were too petty and dumb to get a hint. Going so far as to bring fakes. Kaguya isn't evil at all compared to the majority of Touhou characters, including Mokou, whom the fandom ironically portray as the victim.
*lover* more like suitors who after her for their own selfish purposes. She responded in kind. Mokou did as mokou did because of herself. There are no *good characters* in this particular story.
@@ArmpitMiko. The games got copyrighted from moriya shrine recently idk if they got them back yet but u can find a torrent for all of the games including the 98 era online
@@nekomata_aero do u know torrent for eosd sir? i got my own but it's crashing, i already download pcb till pofv and they work very well (but my pcb has jp translation and idk how to fix this) i'm kinda new to this franchise
Hmm, I love the very regal feel you get from the trumpet in this song. Very fitting for the princess of the moon. Also, speaking of which, I love the contrast between this and Immortal Smoke; even during its faster parts, Lunatic Princess has some very distinctive notes, while Reach for the Moon's notes run together, blending together beautifully. This really emphasizes the rivalry of the phoenix of the Fujiwara and the Tsuki-hime.
I'm a huge osu! And TouHou fan. This song never fails to send shivers down my spine at times. And playing this on osu! Is always a rush. (I also absolutely love the remix that Camellia did with Nanahira. Seashore on the Moon)
Over 12 years after hearing this for the first time, have found only two games that have OSTs as beautiful, undertale (tbh only battle against a true hero and hopes and dreams) and celeste. Out of hundreds if not close to a thousand.
*sigh* I always get a little fed up reading Mokou v Kaguya arguments they always try to paint the situation in black and white. Shades of grey people seriously it is not black and white like the fandom likes to make it. Kaguya was involved with at worst directly sending 1 person to his death (Only one of the 5 princes that took her requests actually died in the original tale according to wikipedia anyways, version of the tale I read no one died) and indirectly killed the lunar emmissaries. One of the princes turned back and 3 of them tried to fake it. Given how most sources I've found said the endeavor SHAMED Mokou's father not KILLED him I'm going to assume he was one of the fakers. And while polygamy was probably still okay in those times it doesn't change the fact he only pursued Kaguya as a trophy wife even though she was physically probably a similar age to his own daughter, you'll have to forgive me if I don't care for Lord Fujiwara. Kaguya is at worst kinda selfish and irresponsible. I list numerous things the other characters in the series have done that are far far worse than Kaguya. Very quickly Remilia and several other characters like Rumia explicitly eat people, Yukari regularly kidnaps a supply of people to be eaten [usually unwanted people like homeless or runaways but still] and started a war with the moon, Kanako fought a holy war with Suwako and Suwako herself has probably cursed people with numerous plagues, Tenshi started an earthquake in gensokyo because she was BORED, Okuu wanted to turn Gensokyo into a new hell (though I would argue Okuu is more stupid than evil), and Miko manipulated her populace and instigated holy wars while secretly trying to make herself immortal. Byakuren is probably the only objectively good character I can think of. As for Mokou she is mostly reckless and irresponsible. She stole the Hourai elixer and drank it (even killed a man to get it although she does regret it) for petty revenge without thinking of the consequences and spent 300 years an insane shambling zombie burning everything in her path. *edit* In regards to her father I have no idea which of the 5 items he was resonsible for getting but based on the fact he was greatly shamed I'm assuming it was the jeweled branch (in the tale, the prince that was sent to retrieve that instead had 4 servants labor for 3 years fabricating the thing and was publicly called out on it when Kaguya insisted on hearing out his servants) TL;DR: They're both their own shades of grey. You can argue Kaguya is darker but she isn't black and Mokou isn't white despite what the fandom tries to say.
***** Even Byakuren desires support from youkai just to be immortal, as if greed isn't a sin. Though you have to remember, younger youkai like Rumia, Mystia, or even Meiling only attack humans because that's the only thing they really know. Well, Meiling may be a bad example, since she was taught instead to guard the mansion, not normally attack. In Perfect Memento in Strict Sense, it's mentioned that the older a youkai is, the less threatening they seems. For example, Yukari, Yuuka, or even Ran. In actuality, youkai don't even need to eat to survive, they just eat because they emulate humans. Honestly, I think truly the ONLY white character is Shikieiki, though even she's hated for her lectures.
For me, the reason why Mokou is less vilified isn't because she's free of sin, but because she's suffered more than she ever deserved. She is pitiable.
Technically I may be bad but I think you missed two other good people shimnyoumaru and raiko cause technically they never we're doing something bad they just wanted to save their own kind from insults and possession however due to urban and antimony shimnyoumaru's character died down a little especially her conversation with mamizou. I also forgot Okina's is also kind of good because she didn't want Mai and santono to work for her forever and get tired and she just wanted to get popular she's not really hostile towards people which means pretty much Byakuren is the nicest and Raiko and Okina are runner ups for the nicest.
I wonder, if Kaguya just used her power more seriously, would she be able to be one of the most powerful characters in the whole cast of Touhou, ability-wise? Wild speculations aside, her power as stated in the game/the wiki seems abit like a more powerful version of Sakuya's power. If I understand it correctly, that is. "Manipulation of Eternity and the Instantaneous."
One of my all time favorites. I wonder why ZUN named this 'Lunatic Princess', Kaguya seems quite stable even after living for so long. Maybe she already got bored of being mad.
Considering she's the princess of the moon, the term lunatic isn't really bizarre. and this song could be named in the perspective of the protagonists perhaps?
+Sasha Tyagi This tale has always been somewhat controversial to the western audience of recent times. It's nice to see Studio Ghibli providing a thorough context for those unable to relate.
+Yasir Sarraf She'll always be controversial. The touhou version, for example, had her reasons but also shows a total lack of empathy toward a victim of the whole affair (going so far as to make her constant killings of Mokou into a game of sorts).
+LeonGun8 Killing each other has for the most part grown to be harmless entertainment to them. When you live that long and you're immortal, your senses and judgement towards these kind of actions would alter considerably. You'll see things from an entirely different perspective. In any case, Mokou was a mad, murderous, child who obviously overreacted. This wasn't Kaguya's fault. Imagine if someone constantly attempts to kill you for centuries because you rejected their shitty parent who wanted to enslave you... would you persistently "empathize" with him/her because they were once a child? It's clear that Mokou (now an adult able to recognize right from wrong) was targeting Kaguya and not the other way around. It started with Kaguya trying to defend herself (as if she hadn't experienced enough sufferings in her life)... and ended with both not taking the matter as seriously as the fandom try to portray it. You're also looking at it as though the issue between the two took place a couple of weeks ago. Well, their first "reunion" occurred around 1000 years ago.. and we simply don't know how that went. Maybe Kaguya did empathize and it didn't work. You're looking at a continuation of a 1300 year old problem and treating it as if it occurred just yesterday. In short, Mokou and Kaguya no longer harbor ill feelings towards one another. To them, brawling is just games now.
These Rivalry just Slowly turn into meme effect and end up with a Silly Result... I mean Images Kaguya Trip off Claymore Explosive and say "This is why we can't be friend" and Mokou reply "Indeed" and both end up laugh their ass off and Go to Infirmary
Let's be honest, The real villain is Mokou's father, what kind of bastard leaves their daughter so they can do some quests and get themselves killed all to marry some space princess-
well, it also the princess's fault though, she told him to get 5 treasure items but those items are already in her possession, She tricked the men. (This is on wiki btw).
@@maxtruong187 But, if someone you don't even know want to marry you just for your beauty, and you already said "no", but they still try to make you agree, what would you do anyway. Sure, killing them is not a good idea, but it is not her fault that she got dozens of unknown men keep trying to marry her in everyway possible even after being rejected. And about Mokou's father, he already got rejected, and still decided to risk his life for the Impossible Requests, not caring about the consequences, nor did he give a shit about how Kaguya felt toward him.
@@hello7o7 yeah, especially when CiLR even outright stated that Mokou had actually actively killed anyone stumbled upon her for a while in the past. Not to mention how she betrayed the one man who saved her life and left him to death just for the Hourai Elixir.
You gotta give PhillipOnBread credit though; if it wasn't for his YTPMVs, many people would never know the beauty known as Touhou. I, for one, discovered Touhou throughout September First.
To be honest, I am really glad that I found these TouHou music tracks from another song, which I found by clicking on a suggested game song. Quite happy ;)
Man, Touhou has such beautiful themes that have been made from it. The instrument highs and the piano are just so flawless and amazing! I love every single one I hear. I can't be the only one!
If a touhou theme were to play when you go to heaven, it'd be Catastrophe in Bhava-agra ~ Wonderful Heaven (Tenshi is a celestial, she lives in heaven) or Reincarnation. (You know, because you'll hopefully reincarnate unlike Mima? I find it funny that Mima's theme is Reincarnation but she hasn't appeared again in the Windows Era.)
0:00 - 0:14 Kind of beautiful intro. It’s building up (Reminds me of Maniacal Princess from Touhou 3) (Epic piano, btw!!) 0:15 Uh oh, now that sounds like the music of a lunatic princess… 0:27 - 0:55 Cool! 0:55 Nice 1:08 Nice 1:21 - 1:58 Noice! 1:59 - 2:09 Nice This DEFINITELY music sounds way more final-boss-y than the previous one. The first final boss music gives the vibe of “You’ve encountered the true mastermind! Defeat her and save the world! Victory is imminent. Don’t give up, you can DO THIS!!” because it sounds so heroic, and this second final boss music gives the vibe of a long, tough, decisive battle against an evil final entity instead because it sounds more malicious. I like the first one a little better but this is GREAT! :D Only masterful composers can make music so good to the point where I’ll write entire essays about it. By the way, my favorite part is 2:10 - 2:37! (HECK YEAH.) Now it’s time for the final spell music.
