I have taken private drum lessons several times from Kai, and I can tell that he is very focused on body control, including sitting position and breathing.🙂
Finally we get to see him play this! As the Islander Arms show never seemed to get a clean shot of him and even the recent well produced Hellfest live video cuts away to a wide shot of the stage for 90% of the solo.
Heard it 4 times now, this drumsession ,it is just amazing what Kai does,it is obvious where Jukka's drumming is coming from, from Jukka himself and from his dear friend Kai Hatho.!!!!
As much as I love Jukkas drumming, getting Kai was such a blessing for Nightwish! On a different note: the drum setup seems very different from what Kai uses when drumming for Wintersun - actually, it seems to resemble Jukkas old setup a bit?
@Henning Groenzin I had read or heard through and interview that with all the extra bits he has added he had to try to make the kit more efficient. I.e. probably smaller movements between the main parts of the kit. Jukka had a good visual set up and made sense as a power player but Kai has a lot more intricate parts to manage with the newer push of song writing on the recent albums.
I'm a guitar player not drums, but I've heard drummers compare Kai's talent and chops to Neil Peart.(RIP) Any drummers out there want to chime in? I love Rush and Nightwish but when I hear someone is compared to Lord Neil....what do you think, is Kai that good?
He is a phenomeonal drummer for sure but comparing drummers or musicians in general sounds very unprofessional. Kai is ”one of the greats” for sure! Very professional and hard working drummer.
@@Niki_SoS lol so ....no then. Sorry for sounding "very unprofessional" your highness. Im not a pro musician and people compare all the time its how we determine our favorites. Im a fan of all good musicians. Not trying to put anyone down. Just curious if drummers hold Kai in the same regard as Neil thats all. Kinda like how steve vai and joe satriani are compared and rightly so, similar styles and level of virtuosity.
@@NPK476 Interesting, I would have put him above Lars. Kai sounds pretty technical to me, just with the jazz influence and he sounds a little like Neil on the snare in some of his solos But like I said, what do I know I play guitar.
