This master enjoys his craft so much. I love to see musicians enjoying themsleves, and Kai always plays with a huge smile. The same can be said for all of Nightwish. They love what they do, and the fans respond.

Toronto won't be ready for the Sept 8 opening of the tour. We haven't got the curve down yet. They'll have to start elsewhere. But yes, the skeletons must dance!

What fascinates me the most is that he doesn't get bored playing this stuff. It's comparable to Kimi Räikkönen working as a Taxi driver and spending 8 hours each day going 40km/h, while occasionally participating and winning F1 tournaments in his spare time (referring to what he does in other bands like Wintersun).

I always ask myself HOW the drummers are able to play 1+ hour concert!? HOW?! I would die after 1 song (no even!) haha I have so much respect for drummers, cause my mind is unable to process how on earth he can keep up with this tempo and knows what and when to hit! Love it! ♥

I would say that is a very valid question. Of course it's about training the stamina and endurance, but most of all it is about technique, and Kai is a master on that topic. He has studied the playing technique and ergonomics and i would say that it's an important foundation why his playing looks sort of easy and relaxed. Luckily he also has time to teach and takes students and is spreading his wisdom for new and also seasoned veteran drummers.

Both Jukka and Kai are great drummers. Jukka adds more show, Kai seems to add more tiny details. Wondering what the real differences between both are.

@SteveNL If I compare Jukka's set up with Kai's then it looks less efficient, yet he has no trouble with it. So Perhaps he does it on purpose, for the show.

Love these video's. I have one question though. Is the delay in vocals how it's supposed to be, or is it just something that seems delayed because the audio of the drums is directly recorded, while guitar, vocals etc are further away? But it is in fact not delayed, it's just an auditory mindf**k?

Hey! That's a good and valid question. In this video the sound you hear is the actual sound coming from the drums on the stage, and everything else you hear is just the leaking sound from around, and that's why it sounds delayed. So your analysis was correct. On many newer videos I have mixed the audio from actual recorded multitrack and the sound is way better (for example newest Beast in Black videos from summer 2022). Unfortunately there is no such vids with Kai (at least not yet).

@@anttikangasaho Ah thank you for explaining this further. I'm a beginner drummer and I was wondering why the drums sounded rushed compared to the softer vocals and other instruments. And the answer is: It's not synced up! Good to know. I was wondering for a moment if I needed to tune my ideas of rythm! Also, I'll go and check out some of your newer video's.

Perfect timing. Kai is excellent drummer. Only negative issue is how he plays few old songs for exsmple end of the ”Ghost loves score”. Jukka played only on symbals but Kai plays also tomies. NW drum technisian should be fired. On Wembley concert drums where out of tune and in Argentina live album drum sound was awful.
