How a single ROM Hack changed the internet / connerthewaffle / connerdawaffle Instagram - @Connerthewaffle Outro Music: "World Of Love" By HeatleyBros • "World of Love!" Fun U...
I like how Conner manages to maintain a perfect middle ground between a serious review voice with a professional way to narrate things, and his usual casual conversational way of talking; it's a very cozy style.
Not me freaking out when ProtonJon popped up because I literally just got done watching TRG not long before watching this. I'm glad to know about the history of Kaizo now, because I had only ever heard about it before. It's kinda fun seeing people thrive for a challenge so much that they play something that's nearly impossible.
I've heard of the Kaizo mods for Mario games but I never played them. (I don't like to be stressed when playing video games, it defeats the purpose) I'm sure that the Kaizo theme influenced kaizo courses in the Mario Maker games though.
They are VERY tough and grueling to get through. But the feeling of clearing a particularly challenging level or hack is the most rewarding thing I've found in gaming because you fricken earned it.
When i was a kid I used to have a good time with mario hacks like Demo World, TSRP but then i accidentally played "Luigi's Adventure". It was my biggest piece of suffering ive ever played as a 9 year old and its not kaizo.
SMW Rom Hacks > Mario Maker I grew up playing these hacks on my jailbroken PSP so I could play them on the go. That shit was wild back then for me. Fun times man.
Kaizo Mario is something that probably would still exist even if you went back in time and stopped its original creator from making it. I've heard about it, I've seen gameplay of it, but I'll never play it or any levels from Mario Maker based off of it because it takes away the fun you're suppose to have with video games. I'll never understand why some folks want to torture themselves with level designs that look like the came from a crackhead. I'd like to *keep* my sanity, thank you very much.
Hey ConnerTheWaffle, here's an idea for a future ConnerTheWaffle video for all of your lovely ConnerTheWaffle fans out there; a ConnerTheWaffle feature-length-long multipart retrospective call: Conner's Sonic The Hedgehog Fan Games & ROM Hackstrospective Extravaganza!!!!
I cannot fathom the amount of nostalgia your intro was able to awaken with the old youtube, internet explorer, and fucking azureblade49. I truly miss this early era of youtube so much. Curious if you ever watched Sonikdude101 (now Antdude92) and his early lets plays?
A few things that separates Kaizo Mario from the rest: - It can be completed by an expert platformer. However it will provide even the best players with a very stiff challenge (about as much challenge as we plebians face with a normal game) - The level design is very good. If you are in the top 0.1% of video game players it is a very fun game to play with very clever gameplay ideas. - The TAS are entertaining to watch. However for full enjoyment it's more entertaining to watch a "playthrough" TAS (which completes the levels as intended, with no regard for speed) than an optimized TAS. Very few Kaizo hacks score on all 3 fronts Something like Pit of Despair, Pit of Death, and Item Abuse 1-3 qualifies on the latter 2 fronts but no human can complete them. Not even with slowdowns and savestates
i remember playing a game like this (it was basically the same thing except a free browser game a mario game made to be bs as possible) this gave me so much nostalgia.
Great video! Cant wait to watch more. No biggie but at 2:13 you said "Electric gaming monthly" the magazine was "Electronic Gaming Monthly." No biggie, keep making great videos
Hello my fellow Connor I am a og fan I'm pretty sure it was so long ago but when I click on your channel again I felt a big amount of nasolga I don't now when but I think it might have been right around 500 or so subs but I might be wrong but anyways I love your channel
I go back and forth enjoying to watch this stuff but given that the main players of it anymore don't get the frustration. They know all the tricks and techs so it's never a get stuck on a spot for very long. It is interesting sometimes but a lot of times it just seems boring especially with so many super Mario maker 2 creators being the same people.
No, no no no no don’t you dare accuse all of us of using save states to beat these rum hacks I’ve never once never ever ever once used to save state. My SD2SNES somehow wasn’t the Kirks version so the firmware on my SD2SNES doesn’t exist, nor do I want to download and screw up my flash cart so some of us just git gud
Sorry but Mario 3 is just way better. Snes is awesome yes. Better graphics but Marios toolkit was pretty much reduced to nothing . He got a spin jump and cape but lost 7 other abilities. And world sized seem reduced.
see "kaizo maro" IS NOT "kaizo mario world" "kaizo mario" was a mod of the ORIGINAL mario game on the NES "world" was a mod of "world", on the SNES two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAMES. also people were hacking games LONG BEFORE "lunar magic" or "super demo world" were even thought up. the entire premise of this video is flawed beyond imagining. i mean HELL the video that popularized the term "asshole mario" was a mario kaizo video, not a kaizo world video, and you dont even mention this fact at all.....
@@stapuft I did. Several times, actually. Found nothing about a kaizo mario for the NES that according to you, came out before Kaizo Mario World. The only thing similar I can think of is what is now simply called "cat mario", and that STILL came out after the Kaizo Mario World
@@HaxTheCharizard oh my god, how stupid can you be, LEARN TO READ, "kaizo mario" was BASED ON the original "mario bros" for the NES, it wasn't on the NES itself, how could you even think it was?
@@HaxTheCharizard the ORIGINAL kaizo mario game started in world 1-1 of mario 1, directly over a pit, leading to instant death, you have to jump, before the game even starts to even start playing. it was popularized in video form on "newgrounds" and other sites as a ~30 minute long video where you get to watch someone slowly go insane while playing a mario game, under the title "asshole mario", the video ends when he successfully beats stage 1-1, only to out what 1-2 has in store for him, causing him to rage quit.
