Big Kokanee Salmon reside in Kalamalka Lake and Wood Lake which is attached by a canal has some great fishing as well. I have been fishing these lakes for about 20 years now and have enjoyed learning how to kokanee fish each of them. Wood lake has higher numbers of fish and a limit of 5 kokanee with great catch rates. The fish are very willing to participate even with new fisherman. Kalamalka on the other hand is a trophy kokanee fishing destination where the fish are less cooperative and the smaller shore spawning kokanee can interupt your search for larger fish if you don't target them specifically. The limit on Kalamalka lake is 2 kokanee a day and the limit on Wood lake is 5 kokanee a day. The provincial limit for kokanee is 5 kokanee so no matter what you CANNOT keep more than 5 kokanee a day of which only 2 can come from Kalamalka. So while fishing in this video I started on Kalamalka and caught two great sized kokanee, then headed to Wood lake for three more fish to top off my 5 fish limit. I have checked with a conservation officer regarding the legality of this and he states it is all legal to do. Make sure you hit Kal first though so you don't get caught out there with too many fish.
Anyways I hope you enjoy this video and my fishing tips for Kokanee success throughout the video. It was a great day of solo fishing and usually easiest to make videos while alone on the boat.
Let me know what you think in the comments section below. Questions, suggestions and other messages are always welcome. I hope you had a great summer of fishing as well. The next season is upon us. I still have plenty to edit from this spring through the summer fishing. Just too busy. Soon will be the greatest season on my channel per your viewing numbers... ice fishing! Stay tuned. I notice you pop the clip with the reel pre pulling out the rod, I've been trying to convince everyone i fish with to go that route. Works so much better than watching people try to snap rods in half for a 2lb fish. Another good vid, I was watching for your boat near the end of the season hopefully see you out there next year. PS nice coho!

Thanks. Yeah I learned this method from watching some saltwater fishing guide videos of @fishingwithrod. So I started doing it with the kids and wife on the ocean and for kokanee as well. Even if I take it out of the holder I do it the same way I just reel down till it pops or slight pull to pop. Grabbing it and reefing on the rod like guys to on the salwater seems to lead to more fish loss in my oppinion. That big jerk goes right to the fish. So tell your buddies take it easy and do a reeling release instead of the jerk! Thanks.

Those are some serious kokanee. Interesting choice of rod and reel

These are not kokanee salmon specific rod and reels. I don't own any kokanee specific gear. These are my ocean salmon trolling rods. They work great with the down riggers. Also I can't kokanee up to 6 pounds this yea and it is nice to have these rods when you get a 4 plus pound kokanee on. They can run and jump and give you a good pull. Also pulling full sized dodgers or flashers doesn't work well on small rods.

@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures yes I always swim there and did a little bit of fishing from the shore it's hard to catch a Kokanee from the shore
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures 3 года назад
@@EdUrichPanFlute yeah I'd say near impossible to catch kokanee from shore in summer. Maybe early spring it could be possible.

interesting set ups you use. salmon mooching reels from the coast, and i don't know what kind of rods. kokanee specific?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures 2 месяца назад
Nah, I personally wouldn't waste money buying kokanee specific gear. I mean if kokanee is going to be your only jam then sure go on right ahead and buy kokanee specific stuff. The kokanee in this lake are larger and I ofen use full size salmon dodgers and flashers. Like the 9 inch dodger and 12 inch plastic flasher. The fish range from 2 to 6 pounds and sometimes catch a lake trout or large rainbow trout. So the salmon Rods work better for that kind of gear than some flimsy kokanee rod. Kokanee is not my main thing, more of an availability thing where I stay in the summer. No passion in it as far as gear goes, so use what I got. Kind of actually despise kokanee fishing unless they are like 3 pounds plus.

I will try to explain how my videos work. I go out fishing and film the days events. Thankful to modern technology the images are stored without distortion on small SD cards. These can later be loaded onto my computer and edited at any point in time. After such time that I am able to edit and process these videos amongst my busy full time schedule and life with a family of three kids, I then get the videos published to RU-vid. Quite bizarre of you to think I was either poaching or had special permission to fish Wood Lake after a fishing closure, Don't you think????
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures 3 года назад
@@daniilgaiday You are 100% right and what I thought anybody would be able to determine. It's not like you go fishing and these videos just magically appear. HAHA. Sorry I'm in a super sarcastic mood and don't take well to accusations or poaching.

I don't know. They seem to work just fine when pulling full sized dodgers and flashers I don't really like using the light stuff. Plus I'm just a pretend kokanee angler, I have nothing much invested in specific gear for them. I just use my ocean salmon stuff.
