War is terrible. It's destructive. It's inhuman. Ukrainians show that they are tough and strong-willed. And music unites, people voted not out of "pity", but because it caught something in their soul. Ukraine deservedly took first place 💙💛

It's a nice point that "you see but you didn't understand" My understanding came when I was going to one of villages in Kyiv region with aid. It was under russian occupation for some time. When I saw destroyed houses... Russian tank was hiding right near my friend parent's house. Their house is just burned stones now. And that village was in pretty good shape, compared to other villages we go through. There was a hell. Every garden, every gate was broken some way or another. Every window broken. Marks from bullets and shrapnel everywhere. And most terryfying - a lot of fresh graves on graveyards. Broken lives, broken souls, broken families. This shouldn't happen in our times.

I'm a Ukrainian American, born in NYC. I've never experienced war but heard all of the stories from my grandparents who fled Ukraine during ww2. They taught us to hold onto the language and culture. I really appreciated listening to your take on this video and how you were able to (unfortunately) relate to the experience of war. I can tell that your life experiences have made you a very honest and empathetic person. I'm sorry that you had to grow up and experience the terror of war. I know that the effects of war were with my grandparents till they passed away. This was a really enlightening review! Thanks for sharing your story!

I can't imagine years from now a lot of Ukranian kids will look back to this video and identify with it. Displaced, taken away, lost their families, their belongings, their land, their country. They were robbed of their youth. Great video.

As you said: no one deserves to go through this. My nephew is 3 and he knows the air raid sirens sound. This invasion is so inhumane and violent towards civilians and kids, and we try to tell about it in every way we can. Kalush did this perfectly in this video. it was good to keep the clip of Stefania and release it after the song contest. And I am sure this contest is not about just how good songs are. It is about how good u can use the song to express the feeling. And Kalush made their best filming it not just like a "happy song la-la-la everything is fine" they expressed that we faced with the most terrible war in the modern history of Ukraine. This is no more happy song. No fake decorations. No fake stories. Graves are not fake. Burned cars are not fake. Destroyed towns (yes, entire towns) are not fake. Our feelings are terrifying because of war. And they can touch the souls of millions. Glory to Ukraine!

Not everyone understands i guess but I want explain that the scene at the end where a woman brings her child to church and the priest hugs the girl means that her soul leaves this world. Hello from Ukraine! I have just watched a video about the Sierra-Leone civil war after watching your reaction, and I am so, so sorry you had to go through this. Being just a kid in between a tangled and brutal conflict, it must have been incredibly painful for you. I thank you for actually understanding what we are going through, although I wish there were fewer people in the world who do. Damn, I wish we never understood. All the background in the video - those are real sights of destruction. No special FX. War hurts, war divides, war scars, war kills. And you are right, no one should go through that. That's why that video makes me cry every time.

She was supposed to hear congratulations on her birthday, but she heard that war and explosions had begun. My mother is 43, in 3 months she really turned gray. I agree with you - Eurovision is a spotlight that highlights the problem. This is a useful tool, so I see no reason to refuse it. Many say that there should be no politics in the competition. But it's things like Kalush's victory that give the Euro a deeper meaning.

I am from Ukraine, and as you said you prefer to hear from people, here is what I can say: Ukraine used to be part of Russian empire, just like Sierra Lione used to be the part of British empire. We have fought for our independence for centuries, and finally got it in 1991 after the USSR collapse. But russia has a weird sense of owing our land. They keep claiming that "we are one nation, it is just you got wrong idea you are a different nation with different culture, we speak the same language". We actually really speak Russian a lot in Ukraine but that is because we were forced to do so for 3 centuries - people in villages always spoke Ukrainian, but in empire (and later USSR) to get a job in the city, you had to speak Russian (official language). Anyway, they disrespect our right to speak our language - when we do, they call it "nazism". they keep claiming "you don't have any culture" - which is totally ridiculous as you can hear from the music we produce (with national motives), fairy tales, cuisine, art, dancing etc. To explain in a simple way what is going on now: imagine a couple, which used to be together, and in which the guy kept beating his girl from time to time and drinking heavily. Some day she decides to break free and start living a normal life, perhaps, meet other guy. As soon as she tells him - he threatens to kill her in a "be mine or noone's" manner. Then he breaks into her house, rapes her and beats her. This is exactly what russia is doing with Ukraine now. The only difference is that Ukraine is strong and we will eventually kick their ass 😁 Thanks again for review and reading my passage.

Thousands of Ukrainian mothers have already defended the future generation with weapons in their hands or as volunteers. Hundreds of Ukrainian mothers have died in action. How many children became orphans. How many of them were injured. I am crying about the fact of hundreds of dead children. We are fighting for life. We are fighting against Mordor. Together we stand.
