@ PB He dominated the fight from bell to bell, don't be an asshole. Kamaru put on a great performance, Leon did so as well, bringing it back with a perfect hail Mary moment
@@JL-tk7ng 😐 are we seriously going on a technicality? He dominated from round 2 onward with ease, if it hadn't been for that beautiful KO then Leon would have been just another defense. Minimizing how incredible the win is, is a disservice to Leon.
@@Hawkeye83627 You used the phrase bell to bell though, I was just stating that he didn’t dominate the whole fight, it was 3-1 usman going into the 5th, I know that. He did fake a low blow though and he’s done that before in fights..
Can’t even lie, he’s taking the loss in stride and it makes me have nothing but respect for him. A true warrior doesn’t make excuses and gives respect to his opponents. Good on yah usman
He gives no respect to Edwards here! He makes out that the KO was all his own fault, and gives no props to Edwards for disguising a kick that he couldn't see. And the way he talks about the fight after the first round you'd think he was doing whatever he liked. That wasn't the fight. It was a real fight. A real fight which he was clearly winning by the fifth, but it was a real fucking fight. All he gives Edwards is that he 'gave me a 20 min nap' and basically characterizes the rest of the fight as him ragdolling Edwards. I mean, what video are people watching here?!
Respect to Usman. First of all kudos to anyone who has the guts to fight on the biggest stage in the world with millions of people watching. He took his loss like a man, no bs excuses, no crybaby attitude. If people took losses like this in life more frequently, we'd live in a better and more productive world
7:24 this quote is legendary. The way he accepted the loss show how this dude isn’t just a winner, he’s a true champion. Humble and super confident at the same time.
I was just thinking the same thing, the difference between him and adesanya is he actually just says “yeah he caught me man” adesanya has a million and one excuses and that’s why people giving him so much shit
"i shook left i shook right & im in the ambulance and they asking me if i know what happened" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤝🏽lmao i respect Usman so much for that. Set that up like a legit comedian
I completely understand why he feels that way. This loss humanized Kamaru Usman in other's eyes as someone that can also lose. When everyone puts tons of expectations on you, it feels good to give them a realistic take on what to expect when you're fighting tougher and tougher competition.
At least he talks a little like a humbled fighter, excluding the jibe against memes. Contrast this to other arrogant fighters like Conor who only get worse with defeat.
It's crazy how comfortable he is with speaking about the KO and even admitting to watching the fight multiple times. And humouring himself with it even when people were trolling him. Steel mind.
@@seancarter6828 you can never achieve 10% of what this guy has achieved. Your little mind can never grasp his mental fortitude. Shut up, listen and learn and maybe you could achieve something in this life
Mcgregor was in denial after every loss, blaming it on injuries or all kinds of things. Sean o malley can’t admit to his loss. Respect to usman for handling this loss like a man and admitting defeat.
Conor McGregor has become the hitler/Nazi of MMA no matter what topic he will always eventually be brought into the conversation somehow. Every single video of khabib already has Conor haters, peta talk about the man when we know he’s going to fight
“Humble in victory and humble in defeat” yeah sounds like excuses to me. I mean coming off long layoffs and a leg break in his losses to khabib and poirier are legitimate excuses.
You gotta respect a man that accepts his defeat and makes fun of himself. I would say this, Usman is destined for greatness because after he gets his belt back (which I have no doubt he will), it will just add to his story. Just as it did for GSP after his loss. Kudos to Usman, I'm looking forward to the 3rd fight with Leon.
@ PB faking? He had no reason to fake anything he was beating Leon’s ass BAD. Leon is a chump of a champion who won’t even have 1 title defense. He almost got slept by Nate you think usman would come close to that against Nate? Come on now you Leon fans are delusional
I'm not the biggest Usman fan, but this guy's mental game is on another level. He takes a loss like a true champion. The 3rd fight is about to be insane
Fr. And him saying people start putting expectations on him after he gets to the top, yes that’s true to a certain extent , but I believe he was the one who built those expectations and not the people
No worries Usman, no worries Champ. Crap happens to the best of us. No doubt you’ll bounce back sooner than later and better than ever. Watching you do this interview laid back, humorous, civil, polite and being able to watch the fight multiple times speaks volume about your character and caliber! Giving props to Leon and humoring yourself on how you lost and how long it took you to come to sets you apart from the pack! Much respect to you, Israel, Francis and the rest of the fighters especially from Africa! ☝️ ❤️. Big up 🇳🇬
@@Theirishcannoli it’s not his nickname though . He said his coach called him marty because they didn’t know how to pronounce his name and he hated it . He said he prefer to be called kumaru from now on and people still call him marty to try and get under his skin . I’d venture to say some say it because it has racists connotation to it .
my man is going to be in the new black panther movie. He’s even wearing the Namor hat. Hopefully he has a breakthrough performance and he can have somthing to fall back on. nobody wants to fight forever
@@kingk7884 He has been cheating EVERY fight, literally. Fence grabs, faking groin shots, faking eye pokes. It goes back so far, he even did it during his time in TUF
I think the way Usman has handled his Loss by being open, honest, humble, congratulatory, & comedic, put all together has made him way more fans than he even had before the Loss.. He definitely made me want to take more of an interest into him than I did before the Loss. I think it’s because he’s really showing his true personality!! Great Champion & So Much Respect Is Deserved To Him!!
Great human being you can tell when he's having normal conversations, him and Joe losing it on the interview meme was gold lol they're fans of the sport as well, and they appreciate it.
Maybe he’ll finally drop the weird and poorly acted alter ego thing that he’s been doing for years. He’s probably a likable person, but his efforts to act like McGregor or Mayweather have just been cringy.
You know im not gonna lie i wanted usman lose so bad but seeing how he’s handling this loss and how humble he is in defeat, he’s made a another fan, respect ✊🏽
Humility. Winning over a dozen fights in a row can gain a fighter a lot of fans, but being humble will gain the respect of everyone. Excellent interview, KU has gained a new fan in me.
Great interview. Honestly, I think losing to Leon makes it a little bit easier to cope with the loss because Leon is so cool. Had he lost to a tool it would be a lot harder to accept I think
I have never been a fan of Usman’s personality, but always respected his prowess and dominance as a fighter. As a fan, it’s always interesting to see how a fighter responds to a loss. Kamaru took this loss like a pro, which is something many others haven’t been able to do. Can’t wait for the rematch.
Usman has handled this loss FAR BETTER than any other champion I can remember. This man is a TRUE champion, doesn't shy away he confronts it. Can not wait for the rematch between Usman & Edward's. Gonna be a real legitimate INCREDIBLE trilogy
Most great champions handle loss well. GSP, Max Holloway, Stipe, Glover, Jan, Woodley, etc... none of them bitched and moaned they all just got up went to work and moved on.
“I shake left, I shake right, then I’m sitting in the ambulance and they’re asking do you know where you at”. Man, I had the same facial reaction as joe did when he said that 😂, but that was an all time nasty kick by Leon, amazing fight.
This comment made my evening, it's one which shows his character. If that is how you can talk about getting ktfo'd then you got a good head on your shoulders.... wait...
I knew usmans backstory from a documentary and felt for him, and saw his fights and new the dude was up there in the talk for goats. This interview just shows how he's a genuinely good and humble guy. How he said that the only thing that upset him about the KO was when the camera panned to his crying daughter got me in the heart. How even after all the personal shit Colby said about him, including talking about his father, and he still praised Colby, he even said he thinks he's a good guy and you can tell he meant it. He laughed naturally while Joe talked about a meme of the knockout. I respected his confidence how he said "when I get the belt back" without a hint of arrogance, just stating a fact. How he debunked the claims of "it was lucky", and said, "no, he got me, it was a perfect move". Just the fact that he turned right around and was on this podcast, and didn't try to hide from it. This is how everyone's mentality should be. Put everything you have into what you do, and then you can hold your head high without shame, win or lose. Usman is a champion in the ring and out.
I fking love this man. Most down to earth, honest and professional fighters I've ever seen in my life. Cant wait to see what he can do next. Hade 1 off the greatest title runs off all time. 🙌🙌
I saw Leon was on a podcast just before the Usman fight and he was speaking about going out to Texas and hanging out with him and Dave Chapelle and done a podcast but where is it??? Need that and a new one now lol
Most people will never understand the type of balls it takes to come out and do interviews in front of millions of people after you got knocked into another dimension, it’s honestly refreshing to see someone take a loss like a true champ, not make a ton of excuses like “my foot was a balloon.” Usman was dominating that fight, I have no doubt he’ll get his belt back. He’s a true champ. Awesome person. You can tell he really is grateful to be where he’s at in life. Refreshing to see true champions.
Facts take nothing away Leon but if he comes back with the same plan he’ll just give that belt back to usman he can’t expect usman to fall for that again
I have even more respect for Usman now. He is not hiding after the loss like most UFC fighters do when they lose a big fight. He is out there doing interviews, talking to media , etc
Kamaru gets my respect as a fighter for sure but after this interview he has my respect as a human being. To be that humble and grateful after a loss in fact is commendable. For sure he deserves all the recognition.
@Zexy Xan fr. And him talking about More Plates more dates making a video about him. He was completely wrong about what the dude said. MPMD was refuting comments made about the track marks on his stomach.
"Leon gave me a 20 min nap" This is why I mess with him, he's so damn chill. I still don't understand how people said he's not humble. He was always like this.
Usman was never my favorite fighter, but he gained my respect over the years as a true warrior willing to do whatever was needed to win. I would never wish a knockout like that on someone! I hope he comes back and still kicks some ass.
Exactly I hated the dude always But since he took the belt off Woodley He has been the best dominant in his class Coby was really the only one who was close Hate usman Colby and Leon but love the fights they producing
Y’all are obsessing over the loss more than usman. None of the white boys on the division could get it done so it took another black man to get the strap.
@@dannydorito4675 And he deserves an immediate rematch. If it was 'lucky' idk, it seems Leon trained specifically for it so it can't be luck, bit like the flying knee from Masvidal. He better not really think it was lucky, as that means he won't be prepared for it the next time either.
Now go back and watch his fights and see how many times he grabs the cage and uses it as leverage to take down or defend take downs in literally every fight and you'll lose some of that respect
@@RaidedMK if you'd actually watch the whole fight you'll see he even refused to shake Leons hand or is that some form of his interpretation as well?))) Lol I watched all his fights, beast, being genuine not sure about all that..
"I was never attached to the title" I actually believe this. A lot of champs choose a very safe, defensive route to keep their title and take less damage. There's nothing wrong with that, but I have a lot of respect for someone that can take so many risks to chase a finish every fight and still be dominant for so long.
Chase a finish? He was ACTUALLY COASTING, cuz he very well knew he had the win on the scorecard. It just sounds better to hear “yeah i lose cuz i was chasin the finish and not defending “ when in reality he coasted and got knoc the fac out from a headkick. Everbody knows that, he aint fooling nobody over 12 years old.
Nobody truly considers you the champ if you just hide away from the true challenge, I don’t like kamaru but boy was he a fearless champion, and I can defiently respect that
Respect for Usman, not only for the reign as champ, but for talking about the fight LIKE A CHAMP. Wish you a solid recovery can't wait to catch the next fight
This interview makes me like Usman. His acceptance of loss after so many consecutive wins shows how good he really is. He knows that this is only a minor slip to his great legacy! Much love to this Chief
Nah bro what happened is he got knocked the fuck out and got humbled. If he woulda won his head woulda been so high up with clouds. Prolly would go around town yelling the best ufc fighter if all time.
@@chancellorasher9417 bro I don’t get why people are taking like this. The guy just believes in his abilities and his work ethic. He literally said from the get go Leon has cleaner striking them him. To be in this sport u need some ego
“ I didn’t care about the title, I didn’t hold onto the title” “ TAKING WHAT FROM WHO?!?!” 🤣 “I didn’t care about the numbers” This dude constantly mentioned GSP and being P4P. Anyone else smell BS? No hate on Usman at all, just confused on the back and forth.
The way a fighter handles a loss reveals a lot, especially after dropping the belt. You can see that there's a fine line between confidence and ego when it comes to fighters. The only thing he seems salty about is his perfect takedown percentage.
The people saying that was somehow an excuse to distract from the KO clearly don't know what they're talking about. You can tell that bugs him and for good reason. That was an insane feat this many fights in. He already had 1 loss so it isn't like Leon broke his undefeated record. He just lost the belt and he's confident he'll get it back, and I believe him.
Love Leon Edwards for the same reason I love Kamaru Usman : the disrespect and hate they got despite being respectful hard workers. That's why I wanted Leon to win, so he can get at least a little bit of respect. Don't care if Kamaru comes back or not, both of them are already in history. But how nice will it be to see him win the belt back in England the hardest way and make it necessary to have a quadrilogy in Nigeria
Would a 4th be necessary ? Usman would be 2-1 and 1 minute away from being 3-0 it’s not like that fight was competitive outside the first round and last minute
Can tell he's extremely confident in his ability. Knows he didn't get outclassed and just got caught in one of the most unpredictable sport in the world. Nice to see hes not had his ego dented like some
He’s confident to the ego maniac stage. Moving his head side to side with those facial expressions as he recounts his actions is strange, he’s acting himself like. And maybe he was drug tested at 5am to actually catch what he was doing. He seems humbled because he knows he couldn’t win. Not because he’s a humble man. Just my thoughts. I didn’t gravitate to him at this interview compared to the previous one , feels like he’s not telling the truth here.
@@goead w/o doping... I’m not claiming to know anything that’s not public info. But from listening to him and knowing what went on, he’s not telling the truth here. Note on the full length interview how he refuses to speculate on how many are doping in this current era, and then volunteers to give his estimate before usada and he said 25% maybe 😂 Joe was like na man it was way more than that. His body language here tells a lot. He doesn’t even acknowledge the pain of losing. He has detached from it and I personally feel through psychological empathy with the guy that he’s not being honest. Maybe usada were told to test him at 5am for the very reason Joe says - the half life is too short. They weren’t just being difficult haha
People are creators, man, they're gonna love that head kick no matter what. It's good content to see an ego like that gets defeated, cheers to all the artistS that like MMA.
Cracks me up that you know Joe had the reigning champion lined up for after he defends his title, now its just a redemption pod because he felt bad on canceling 🤣
Its weird you think like that Ben, these two are colleagues. Do you turn your back on the people in your life just because they had a rough day at the office?
7:20 "I'm moving and I'm like, 'okay I got him set up,' which I really didn't. I shake left. I shake right. Then I'm sitting in an ambulance and they're asking me, 'do you know where you're at? It was like Leon gave me a twenty minute nap!'" I like him a lot after all this. Just the way he told that, while laughing. So funny and humble.
Usman has always been cool. Not sure why he gets a lot of hate or is overlooked. Sure, there has been times when he talked trash but it's always because his opponent took a shot at him first. People often clutch at straws when I ask them why they hate him for no good reason.
Champs bounce back from losses. GSP was a champ, then loss, returned stronger than ever and became a legend. This was a side step for Usman. He'll return and be more of a legend.
That what I think he means tho. He was trying to put himself in situations where the expectations would be that he would lose because the pressure of being the P4P was getting to him. Nobody would expect him to beat Canelo. If he lands a solid punch people would say great job. When hes fighting in welterweight the expectation is that he must dominate, AND it must be a banger of a fight.
Look at Izzy. I guarantee you that dude cries himself to sleep at night because of the shit directed at him...for winning too easy people are bored. He'll pretend he doesn't care, but you can tell he's rattled by the expectations people have for him.
Such a champ and the knockout for sure has been great for all: Usman, the sport, Leon, and us, the viewers who where so mindfucked in complete awe that day!
Usman over the years has really come into himself. He used to be anxiety ridden trying to not make any mistakes while simultaneously being cringey. Now he got his own lane and has confidence in everything he says.
Still can’t believe Usman lost the way he did, daughter in the crowd and all that… gotta respect what these fighters do for our entertainment. Edit: I know they don’t do it for OUR Entertainment, But WHO is generating the money to pay them? The people who pay to be entertained.
Come on Kamaru! You’ve called yourself the greatest/goat literelly 500 times in interviews! Don’t act like ppl tried to put you in that spot! You put yourself in that situation. No one did. You were talking about 205. We weren’t! You were doing too much! We didnt ask for too much mate.
