Wonderful experience. So happy that you guys enjoyed this journey. I am a srilankan living in Australia and big rail fan and last time I took this journey was in 1995 when this scenic route was not so popular. Few important points. There are 4 trains from Colombo to Badulla operating in this scenic route. Podi manike which starts its journey from Colombo at 5:55 am. The next train to start from Colombo is Denuwara manike at 6:35am which is an intercity train with fewer stops. Next train to Badulla is Udarata manike departing Colombo at 8:30 am. Last daytime train to Badulla leaves Colombo at 9:45 am. This is what you took. All these 4 trains consists of 1st, 2nd and 3rd class compartments. First 3 trains are newer push pull type power sets where as the last one is a locomotive driven one. Fastest and most convenient way to reach Badulla is using Denuwara manike intercity express where prices of similar class tickets are slightly higher. It doesn’t go via Kandy as Podi manike or udarata manike and stops at the 3rd platform in peradeniya junction. It’s away from the main station so you need to be aware of that. The last train no 1008 has an observation saloon car at the end of the train which is famous for its Panoramic views.

Hey Chris and Carol, you need to go to Horton Plains, where you can walk to place called World's end. These areas are extremely beautiful. I know, you will love it. In addition there are lots of places you can go in Sri Lanka's up country including tea plantains and botanical gardens.

Bruna Belchior, talvez o closed caption em portugues seja util mas legenda em portugues talvez estrague a beleza do que eh filmado. Vai ai uma sugestao tente entender o Chris, mesmo porque ele tem boa diccao, alem disto eh uma forma de treinar o ouvido ao ouvir o Ingles. Eu entendo muito bem o Chris falando mas claro devo confessar q morei fora do Brasil por muito tempo, mas nem sempre foi assim, e como melhorei ? Assistindo tv todos os dias a programs q nao entendia uma palavra em Ingles, mas de tanto fazer isto meu ouvido foi acostumando. Fica ai a dica.

Not known by that name in Sri Lanka. The crunchy one is parripu wade (lentil) , while the doughnut shaped is ulundu wade.

beautiful . you can ride Ooty toy train from Mettupalayam to Ooty or Ooty to Coonoor in south india . also Kalka to Shimla Toy Train Journey in himalayas . they are UNESCO Heritage site and two of the most scenic train journeys in the world .

The dough nut looking thing and the other thing are both called Vadai. The doughnut looking thing is made of Urid which is a pulse. It is called Urundu Vadai. The other vadai is made of lentils and therefore called parippu Vadai in singhalese and I am not sure what it is called in Tamil,sorry.
