Kangaroos are classified in the same family as wallabies and wallaroos, but they're generally considered the largest members of the family. Kangaroos can be taller than a human! Though the ladies are often almost half the size of the beefy boys. Kangaroos are marsupials from Australia. The females have pouches in which they raise their offspring, typically raising two different aged babies at the same time!
Scientific Name: Family - Macropodidae

Size: up to 8 feet (2.4m) tall; 200 pounds (90kg)

For some reason, if you dream about a kangaroo that is jumping and has a visible joey in her pouch, it's supposed to be a sign that you are going to have an unexpected and exciting trip!

That's cool! I didn't know about that! I'll have to see if any kangaroos appear in my dreams

More facts that fit here: When a baby kangaroo is born, it has two oarlike front legs, which are used for "rowing" to the mother's pouch. There is a story that the word "kangaroo" meant "I don't know" in the language of the Australian Aborigines, but people now think that story is not true. It is not uncommon for Australian Aborigines to eat kangaroo meat even today. In South Carolina it is perfectly legal to keep a kangaroo as a pet, but in many other places in the United States and Canada you can keep wallabies but not kangaroos.

Saying "mobs," reminds me of the Minecraft spawn eggs.

Another great and interesting video. Thank you. By the way, groups of kangaroos (along with wallabies and wallaroos) are called mobs, not herds. They all carry up to 2 joeys plus an embryo.

Group names of animals aren't set in stone and may change throughout time or there may be several different names a group goes by. While "mob" is absolutely acceptable, according to this source (www.livescience.com/27400-kangaroos.html) "herd" is, too. Animal naming conventions can be confusing!

@@AnimalFactFiles Your source is flawed (with link now broken). Americans appear to be the only ones worldwide to (relatively recently) start calling them herds (as did the American on the now broken link). They've been called mobs since (at least) the 1700's and (extremely rarely) court or troop, but not herd.

www.livescience.com/27400-kangaroos.html There's the link. Sorry it gave an error! I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I adorable animal naming conventions and fully support all the fun and wacky finds that come from how animals are named across the world, across cultures, across languages. It's fun to see how that grows and changes. Especially when it comes to common names and usages, I love to see all the different ways things can go - because that's the kind of stuff that flows and changes the way language does over time. Even scientific names change with new information, so I don't mind learning about all the possibilities. I absolutely hear you that they've been referred to as "mobs" for centuries, and I fully respect that's the word you prefer for a group of kangaroos! 😊

@@AnimalFactFiles Now to be fair, this has very little to do with what I personally prefer. My point was simply that ALL Australians along with ALL (non-American) scientists and wildlife experts worldwide have and do refer to them as mobs. Either way, I do appreciate your prompt responses to comments, decidedly more than most do.
