This was one of my favorite days. My son and I left the house early morning one day in June. We were airborne and in the DFW bravo airspace by 8am. We flew to the Charles B Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City (KMKC). After landing we jumped in an Uber and headed to the national WW1 memorial and museum. This museum is incredible, and I highly recommend visiting it. Then we continued the tour with a couple of stops at some recommended KC BBQ joints. We attempted to rate the KC BBQ and compare it to the BBQ that we know and love back home in TX. Then after a short rest at the airport, we preflighted the Skylane, filled her up, and headed back home to Dallas. The southern departure from KMKC is incredible. I greased the landing, and we were home before sunset. It was an incredible day.

nice video. Jackstack is OK. There are almost 200 BBQ joints in KC so. Yeah typical TXs don't like sauce. You don't know what you're missing.

Fiorella’s is decent barbecue. Respectable. But I’m surprised anyone told you it was the best. Unless they were meaning it was the best place you could get to on foot from where you were. Neither of the places you went were a bad choice but I wouldn’t put either of them in my top ten. Kansas City has more barbecue restaurants per capita than any other city in America though so there’s a ridiculous amount of places to choose from and if you ask twenty different people their favorite place you’ll probably get twenty different answers.

Jack Stack and Q39 are both really good, but everyone in KC will tell you a different favorite. If you ever come back, I would recommend Kansas City Joe's (formally Oklahoma Joe's) or Wabash up north a little from KC. Also each place has a very specific thing they are known for: Joe's - Ribs, Q39 - Burnt Ends, Jack Stack - (in my opinion) the best sides, and Wabash - Ribs and Sauce (Sweet). Looks like you had a good time in KC!

This is great advice! We did have some people tell us to go to Kansas City Joe’s but we started running out of time and we were totally stuffed. Thanks for watching, and we are definitely coming back!

I just drove through downtown Kansas City yesterday on I-35. Your 1st landing was kinda blowtastic. I didn't hear you run the GUMPS checklist on the 1st landing? Did that get edited out? What a fun flight! I am itching for a cross country up to 1K1 for lunch sometime.

Yeah not my best landing. It’s a shame because that is such a fun airport to fly into. I edit out a ton of things. I might not have called GUMPS out. Of course it’s possible that I missed it. I usually run the GUMPS check with my right hand several times during the base and final stages. So it’s become more of a touch flow than an audible/oral one. It has a nice flow in the cessnas - not sure about other planes. I’ll touch each thing and make a question mark shape starting from the bottom (fuel on both).
