Remember how when they cut him he said he would join another team and come back and kick our a***s🤣😂🤣never happened did it? BTW , where we gonna find another Roaf for LG🤔FA or draft?
Huh real Chiefs fans know Gannon was the guy.. And I'm 34 year old Chiefs fan.. And I've known this since.. Would've been nice to have Montana one more year ('95 Season) With Gannon backing up.. Smh that would've been huge. Gannon understudy to Montana.. What could've been...
I was all excited to watch this game live back in 1995. Had a vcr taping it but when the Chiefs lost I smashed the tape. Another opportunity lost. Little did I know at the time that it would be 50 years between winning Superbowl IV in 1970 until Superbowl LIV in 2020. Thankfully since Patrick Mahomes became quarterback the team is doing very well and won the last Superbowl.
I hated Lin Elliot for years after that game. Having said that, it wasn't Elliot who lost that game. Both kickers were struggling in that weather. It was Steve Bone and his three INTs that lost that game.
Bono was bad. But, at the same time, it's not like Lin Elliott was having to kick 50+ yard FGs. They were chip shots. Missing from 35, 39 and 43 yards. Come on. That's not good enough. I also think Rich Gannon should have been starting this game. He could actually move the offense. And Marty waited way too late before he finally put him in.
@@pomerlain8924 rich Gannon should have started for 10 years......everyone knew he was better than Bono, and Grbac....marty not playing the hot hand was the worst decision of his career. Could have won 2 Superbowls with Gannon with that 90s defense
Elliott kicked for Dallas during their first championship year in 1992 but Jimmy Johnson let him go after two weeks in 1993. He said on FOX that he felt like Elliott was a disaster waiting to happen because he was so inconsistent and he couldn't take the chance that he might cost them a major game somewhere. Prophetic.
Lin Elliott confided to JJ that he had lost his confidence and was going through a funk. JJ fired him the next day and the press got mad at JJ. Jimmy ended up being right in the end.
Yep and that's why Jimmy got Eddie Murray and he ended up being real clutch that season. Jimmy is in the hall of fame because he learned from his mistakes. Sadly, Marty never did.
@@redmustangredmustang The league is rigged, the NFL was never going to let Marty win big. There is a reason that he always played extra conservative on offense every playoff game. He wasn't allowed to execute a winning game plan. See Grbac over Gannon vs Denver in 1997.
This was during the blizzard of 96, my Cowboys played a game in 17 degree weather in Texas Stadium the same day against the eagles, can’t imagine how brutal the weather was in K.C.
Adam Viniateri was Lin Elliot today. Feels good to finally be able to watch this after today's soul-cleansing exorcism of playoff demons past for the Chiefs.
Here today in 2023, following the Chiefs second Super Bowl win in 4 years!reflecting on just how far the Chiefs have come. I remember those days and makes me appreciate the past five years even more. Arrowhead was believed to be cursed in the playoffs, although it started way back at Municipal Stadium. Who would have believed back then that the Chiefs would completely flip the script from what once was? I guess anything is possible?!
Elliott was missing numerous kicks in games late in the yr. Marty & Carl Peterson should have been trying out kickers or signed one to the practice squad for competition.
Marty didn't have the balls to play Gannon over Bono. They lost. Did the same when Grbac should have given way to Gannon. There is a reason Marty never won anything.
i was at this game. i was in 7th grade. Got a hot dog inthe 1st quarter that must've been saved over from the last home game. got food poisoning. it was so cold that we had a trash bag full of carpet samples we brought in to stand on. I spent the freezing game puking into the bag right there in the stands. That game was nauseating for everyone that day. but, that day, i was the most nauseous perosn in the stadium and thats a GUARANTEE!! Hahaha
Easy money it is a given . Chiefs have all ready that overrated punk Tom Brady and the lucky patriots got no chance to tommorw , we are going to the super bowl. Wow we are finally going to the super bowl I can't believe it. Man I am going to have a big chiefs super bowl party. Can't wait. Mohmie.the boy wonder.
That was such a great Chief's Defense. Rest in Peace, Brother Derrick! I heard that Kicker guy tried to hang himself soon after that game. But he failed to kick the chair out from under him.
THANKS!!!!!!!!! We need to be reminded of where we cam from! #KingdomeKCome #Pat_Trick_15X3💍's And we get to bet a Harbauh every year now... After beating one!..........AND I STILL CAN'T WATCH IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... going to watch Patrick Lavon Mahomes II Highlights now ...
I strongly believe that if the Chiefs had won that playoff game then the AFC championship then would've lost a rematch versus the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl 30
That's the thing with Marty is that the games that his teams should have easily should have won ended up with big upsets. This game, the one against the Broncos a couple of years later and then while at San Diego the one against the Patriots. There's a reason he's not in the hall of fame is because of those shortfalls in the playoffs.
Maybe, but you don't expect an NFL kicker to miss two FG under 40 yards, even in the mid-90s. And you can't really fault him for the Byner fumble with Cleveland.
the colts kicker missed 2/3 fg's as well. Can't really blame the kicker too much in a 0 degree weather game where your qb was 4/10 for 28 yards and 3 int's in the 2nd half. Give the hall of famer marcus allen the ball more and they probably win the game. Oh well, Mahomes & crew erased all that shit this year! CHIEFS KINGDOM!
He missed an easy kick I believe in Oakland at the end of the regular season, he never was the same again. Recognize the play on 2:30, same play the Chiefs used against the Eagles and Niners in the Super Bowls?
The L that unfortunately made us have FINALLY look at Marty Schottenhiemer.... Scratching our heads. Colts had 0 BIZNESS EVEN BEING in this gm let alone WINNING it.
Well, you know good old Marty Ball. The constant them is that the offensive play-calling was too safe. Hence, they get caught in these low-scoring games. Marcus should have got the ball a ton in this game. LT should have gotten the ball a ton when Marty was coaching the Chargers against the Patriots. Play your game. Don't play safe.
@@pomerlain8924 Yes, it's true that Marty never learned to play your strengths. Even in 1985, up 21 -3 vs Miami in play it safe mode. Too timid to let Curtis Dickey relieve a worn out Byner. Browns trampled Miami for 250 rush yards, as it were. One extended drive in second half puts Miami on the ropes. Go for the coupe de grace. Instead, Byner is nicked ,halfway to the side line and gets waved back. Gets to huddle late, doesn't hear play and runs the wrong side of field, to allow Miami to begin their game winning drive. Marty flat out panics in postseason.
Because King Carl Peterson and his massive ego wouldn't allow it (especially with "HIS" guy Grbac). Fuck him and his black, leather trench coats!@@DrewMIATL
Marty Marty Marty. Jimmy Johnson cut Lynn Elliot because he knew Lynn could not be trusted in big moments. What does Marty Ball do? Picks up Lynn Elliot. :( A self inflicted wound.
My God...some many let downs. Heartbreaks. Turd bombs. A history a playoff debacles one after another. Guess what? No more. Chiefs will win the sb this year. Magic Mahomes!!!
It still baffles me at that last sequence before Lin missed his third kick. Why would Marty try a deep pass that has been proven to be ineffective throughout the entire game? It confuses me in a sense that they didn't try a short pass to the sideline on third down, or try a short run play with a spike on third down. After all, you have Marcus (freaking) Allen on your team. USE HIM!
Correct - you know your kicker can't make anything and yet you end up settling for an attempt several yards longer than the two he has already missed badly. I remember when they threw that deep ball on third down I figured that meant they had given up on the field goal kicker and were going for it on 4th down. Marty had to have been the only person in the stadium and the only person out of the millions watching the game on TV that actually thought he was going to make that last kick.
I was in attendance at this horrid, wretched, vomit filled event. 3rd deck, frozen colder than most ice cubes. I tried to put that name out of my memory forever.
Total team effort for KC in this loss. Bono has the worst game of his life, game management and playcalling by Schottenheimer put Lin Elliot in position to fail. Elliot had been struggling late in the season, and the Chiefs didn't manage the game with that in mind.
I love how the title is "Kansas City Chiefs Lin Elliott Game." People that aren't Chiefs fans have no clue who Lin Elliott was, when and where this game took place, why was it so important, and what happened. But every Chiefs fan knows.
@@AF-nc2fc Jimmy Johnson actually said later on when he was on FOX that Lin Elliott was an accident just waiting to happen. He was scared of being in a close football game in the postseason where he would need him and he would miss a field goal to cost him the game, Elliott even told him in the game that he missed the field goals, that he was not feeling good that day, so he cut him for that very reason.
I have been a chiefs fan all my life. However, my life is short. I'm only 21 but grew up loving this city and team. I didn't have to suffer this loss. Think back to when this happened though, really. Did you think we'd ever be back? Did it feel like the chiefs were cursed with some hex that didn't allow them to win playoff games? Fast forward a couple decades, and we have the greatest player to ever play the sport in Patrick Mahomes. You got to witness Mahomes with your own two eyes- something chiefs fans 30 years from now wish they couldve been alive to see. We are a dynasty. Go Chiefs!!!
