Check out progress on the Kansas City International Airport New Terminal, including art and concessions AND a baggage handling system test!
Baggage Handling System test details:
• The full load bag test is designed to stress the system by putting baggage loads on that are of a higher capacity than the system will see in real life. The test looks to meet or exceed a series of criteria from the TSA. The test tries to overload the system in different ways, allowing the team to see how the system recovers and processes, while checking against the performance criteria.
• The full load test takes approximately 1.5 hours and involves nearly 800 bags to be run through the system.
• Hundreds of system tests are run before the system is finalized and considered complete.
• A "throughput" test is another test that's been taking place -- that test measures peak baggage throughput values over the course of five minutes. Currently, the system is testing at over 2,900 bags per hour based on the testing or at 101.2%, a little better than the system's designed maximum output.
