Kansas has always been about super talented musicians, solid and beautiful song writing, with complex but tasteful arrangements. Very few bands perform at this level live, with this bigness of sound without backing tracks (not even a click track for tempo). For 50 years? Sure there have been changes in the lineup (I’ll bet your favorite sports team has a lot more lineup changes, but you still cheer them on). Theses guys still deliver excellence with passion on every recording or live show they do. It still makes me smile…well done guys!
It was a superb concert last Saturday night in Tysons Corner, VA. I enjoyed hearing "A Glimpse of Home," a terrific track from the Monolith album. The concert ended with a trio of Leftoverture songs: "The Wall," "Miracles Out of Nowhere," and, of course, "Carry on Wayward Son." Well done.
I was a long time friend of Robbie's he used to come into Tampa Lanes Tampa Florida and play Pinball and hangout he was a great man and he is greatly missed rest in peace old friend
I discovered Kansas in 1976... Great band... Love the songs... And the way they play togheter as a whole... You can't play and live forever... And these guys are doing a great job... Rich is a very underated guitar player... Love his style... Take care, Kansas lives 👍
Always a pleasure seeing Kansas.Wish they would put some things from POWER,IN THE SPIRIT OF THINGS,FREAKS OF NATURE albums in the set.So many great tunes on those albums as well.
I got to see Kansas just before Steve Walsh retired. They were so awesome and I admit to crying once Song For America started. SFA was the very first song I had heard from them back in the 70's and I get emotional when I hear it. The only concert that I have cried at ...I'm not normally emotional. These talented guys bring it out of me ;)
I grew up on Two for the Show double Live album. Mysteries and Mayhem and Icarus. So amazing to hear these incredible compositions after all these years. They just don't make them like this anymore. Amazing compositions, amazing musicians!!!
Talk about Miracles Out of Nowhere! Starting with the Monolith tour and the original line up, I have seen Kansas five times, including most recently from this tour in Oct 2023 and it reminded me of all of the joyous fun of a 1970s concert. Hoping for a live version of this tour, you reached The Pinnacle with this posting. Thank you!
I was at the Memphis show. I splurged for the VIP photo op experience. The energy they create was intense. I love the way they work Lightings Hand in with Belexes.
Some complain this is not the original version of the band. So what? They sound great and give so many people a good time going to their concerts or listening online. That is all what matters.
Dud kansas was always under estimated not being in HAll of Fame is a bullshit move HOF. Dolly Parton what these guys try but really not close buy at least keeping it alive
A very long story . . as short as I can make it. I started watching this video . . immediately I said, " Hey . . . that's not Phil." I read comments and didn't realize he was recovering from injury, but played from 1:15 on. I started on piano 2nd grade . . . was very good at it ( still am ) . . but moved to percussion ( drums ) in 7th grade . . . 1975. ( I was a natural . . it was "easy". ) Then came Kansas . . . and Phil. ( in all fairness . . . let's add Neil, Bonham & Co. ) Phil has been my drumming mentor since high school . . . still is . . . and he's 73 ! ( if you are a drummer . . . watch his rudiments ! ) The intricacy and precision of their music grabs me . . . always did. I'm an engineer in real life . . . but played in bar / cover bands until about 10 years ago. ( I'm 63. ) I went to see Kansas in Youngstown, OH 2 years ago. Outstanding ! You Go Phil ! Looking forward to Pittsburgh in December !
I saw them last year in Pittsburgh and they were amazing! I am 32 and just getting into them. I'll be seeing them again in December as well! See you there
@@vintagemxer9165 the attendance at the Fox in ATL was was probably 4500 min. The Fox holds about 5000 and it looked close to sold out. It was a pretty full house. Not many empty seats.
This young man cut his teeth on a pair of Phil’s drum sticks. I can’t imagine anyone else playing Phil’s drums though I’ve seen it happen. The years of blood sweat and tears Eric has spent contributing to the finest band and drummer in history has made him a legend for decades.
@@arthurmurfitt7698 if I said the “finest guitarist in history” was Jonathan Cain, you’d laugh. If I told you the finest pianist in history was axl rose, you’d laugh. So - I’m laughing. Don’t like it? TFB. There’s not enough alternate universes for it to be possible the drummer for Kansas is the “finest drummer in history”. Heck - Phil Collins is MUCH better than him. So is Don Henley. And I haven’t even gotten to the list of who would be considered the greatest drummers in history. Unless the original commenter is a relative, there’s no cause for such ridiculous hyperbole.
This band bears no resemblance to real Kansas and shouldn't even be compared to the John Brown album shows through Audio Visions tour ...this is a cover band, sometimes Rich is there sometimes not,... Phil trying to hold it together... Reminds me of Johnny Unitas, he was a great QB, then he played too long and made a fool of himself....this band crossed that line about 2005
Hey thank you for this - really monster stuff! I’m in Ireland so I’ll never get to see Kansas without a long and costly trip - this’ll do me nicely for now 🤘 Btw, ignore the nay-saying clowns below ( you can tell a lot from an avatar!!🙄) your upload is really appreciated 🇮🇪👍
I saw Kansas in St Louis MO early 1990s at Mississippi nights, Carrie livgren was there wearing a yellow striped shirt with red suspenders, awesome show of course.
Great concert „clip“ - thanks a lot! I quite like Eric‘s powerful playing, but I‘m sorry, he‘s not another Phil (and that‘s OK)! Phil has so many variations and at the right moment that extra punch that put his own signature on the songs that he has become a KANSAS trademark over the decades just like Kerry‘s complex compositions, Robby‘s violin and the voice of, well who…Steve of course! And that is in no way to belittle the outstanding contributions of Rich, Tom and the bassists! Far from it, it was THIS mix and in the end it was always: WE are Kansas, WE are a band!
@@kaoscontrol777 he wasnt saying that Phil didnt play on this video. He was comparing the styles of Eric to Phil. As a pro dummer myself, his observation is spot on. Phil's beat accuracy is remarkable and plays 'jsut the right amount' to accent and drive the song. Eric tends to Overplay and (frankly) is slightly ahead of the beat often (especially during and following his riffs) .
Saw them last night in Melbourne, FL at the King Center. Great show! First time I heard them was on AFN while I was working in an underground bunker in S. Korea. 1976…
@@gmac5431you didn't, Rich and Phil belong with Steve, Dave Hope, Kerry, and Robby Steinhardt...these clowns are a cover band now, Rich and Phil should have called it a day a decade ago.
Saw Kansas 7 times in their classic lineup era 1976-1980 with Steve, Kerry, Robbie and rev. Dave Hope. They sound real good here with this lineup. I miss Kerry's guitar input. They were a really great classical/progressive rock band that could rock hard when they needed it in the classic years with 2 guitarists. Still sounding pretty damn good for a bunch of old men. As good as they still are, no one can compare to Steve Walsh in his prime singing Cheyenne Anthem or The Wall or Journey from Mariabron or Icarus, or Carry On, or......I could go on.
I saw Kansas the first time in Miami, Florida. The Miami Jai Ali . 1 hour + of Kansas up staged Bad Company. God bless Steve for singing The Pinnecle. Do you want to hear this song or else, Seagull, Bad Company.....F.P. Winn Dixie, Key Biscayne, Florida. Coral Gables Senior High School, Mary at the Deli, Dave in Orlando, Florida. March 1976
Kansas also opened for Bad Company at the Providence Civic Center, RI in April of 1976 and blew them away. I've seen them about 8 times, all in the 70's with the original band, always opening up for other bands.
Epic versions of The Wall and Glimpse of Home. A real treat. I adore Lonely Wind and the Homage to Two for the Show with the exit from acoustic portion. It blew me away and I never saw it coming on the PonR tour a few years. Dynamite! Bravo on The Pinnacle, too!
Great band in the 70's. Once Livgren left the band went south. Walsh released a couple good songs but the thrill was gone. Saw them in 1994 and they opened with a new album which was pretty good but Walshs vocals were just about gone. He should have stopped then and just recorded with Livgren in the studio but he refused to quit. He adjusted his vocals to make it thru each song but it sounded like crap most of the time. When he allowed his voice rest, like in the studio, he was still great. All good things come to an end. Rich was always constantly a great guitarist. He had some good licks from time to time but Livgren was king. 1976 was about the best they ever did, although 1982 was pretty special too with Elefonte. I would politely walk away from these guys because they are NOT Kansas.
You can pretty much replace the people that play the instruments, but replacing Walsh is a difficult task. Elefante was the only vocalist they’ve had that could even come close. This guy singing here has a modern instructed technique. Walsh was all natural and, of course, didn’t use auto tune. He was one of a kind.
@@chuckfriebe843 When Elefonte came all original members were still with the band except Walsh. Walsh and Livgren had solo Albums that were pretty good and they guested on each other's tunes. Ronnie James Dio also was on Livgrens album. Great stuff. By Mid 80's Walsh was killing his live voice with too many shows. One show near by in the early 90's he was rested and the old Walsh. I guess that happens to many singers. Too many shows kills their voice. No question Walsh still had range but making it thru those high pitched numbers without varying his voice was no longer possible. I saw them twice in the 70's. Touring Point of no Return and Monolith. They were great both times.
Rich Williams, guitarist. Phil Ehart, drummer. (But he is currently only performing part-time. Phil is the driving force behind Kansas.) Their bass player, Billy Greer has been in the band for 38 years.
To answer your question more directly, Kerry Livgren Dave Hope Robby Steinhardt Steve Walsh All were the original members who have left. Phil Ehart(drums), and Rich Williams are the only remaining original members.
Loved Kansas saw them over 20 times I've got 17 ticket tickets... somehow lost a few ..but Kansas was over when Steve Walsh left, they were really over after Audio Visions... the Masque and Leftoverture Tours were the best... This is a cover band, stop it Phil.
Originally they were a twin guitar AND double keyboard band, as needed, with the incredible Kerry Livgren switching back and forth. It was quite a site to see him seamlessly go back and forth, often in the same song! Not to mention his incredible compositions! I saw them last night and I think they did a great job, the electric violin also fills in a lot with a heavy sometimes guitar like sound.
Where t he hEll is my Kansas . Not these wanna bees. F them. I saw Kansas warm up for Queen down in South Bend. Fabulous show. I'm sick to death of going to like Foreigner and not an original member.
At least these guys have 2 original and a guy (Greer) who’s been there on bass for 38 yrs. Agree about Foreigner, there has to be at least one original. Unfortunately all these guys in these bands are 70 years old. That’s why I like watching footage of older concerts. lol
Also, he is Phil's chosen replacement. In 1993-1994, when he took a break, they had known drummers filling in, and they were competent but didn't sound like Kansas. Eric sounds like Kansas, because he became the drummer he is under Phil's watch. He knows Kansas music better than nearly any other drummer out there besides Phil. I believe he's been his tech for two decades now.
@@Parableman His drum tech is a fine drummer. But when I go to see Kansas (first saw them in Seattle in the 70s) Phil Ehart is who I go to watch. The rest of the band is awesome but Ehart has always been a drummer I've admired. The singer who replaced Steve Perry in Journey is a very good singer. But it's just not right. 😀 That's how I feel about anyone sitting in for Ehart. No matter how good they are.
@@vintagemxer9165 some of it was as I understand. You can tell his style. Its hard to tell because its dark. I had to look hard at the dark haired guy on keys. He looked like a young Walsh before he did his antics. ie. Hand stands on the keys and running around. Steve quit a while back. He was starting to lose his voice even before his first leave of absense. I never saw the original 6 altogether again after 1980 and you never will with Robby gone no matter how bad they may sing and play now. I got to see them 4 times with the orig 6. 1st time was b4 Leftoverature was released w/ Bad Company. Check out a BAND called Leftoverature. They play ALL of the Kansas songs better than the K of today.
There were originally six. Robbie Steinhardt (violinist/tenor vocalist, rest his soul) Dave Hope (bass guitar is now a minister) Kerry Livgren (lead guitar and electric piano also still writes) Steve Walsh (keys, synthesiser, soprano high vocalist on Carry on WS originally and sometimes bongos, writer) Rich Williams (acoustic/electric guitars) and Phil Ehart (drums and percussions). THAT IS YOUR ORIGINAL SIX 6.
@@autk I can dig it. A tribute band is great! Shows that they have the will to keep going! Check out a band called "LEFTOVERATURE." They could get away with being a tribute band because they are great and play all the Kansas songs to a T. Close your eyes and you will not know the difference Check these guys out. They play every Kansas song too! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EgEBGvpGsNw.html
The 70's was their Pinnacle, Two for the Show captures that era nicely although they were better on the Masque and Leftoverture tours imo, but after that, varying degrees of okay here and there...but nothing like the 70's...and this "band" is a tribute... Phil and Rich in and out with health problems... whatever they should have quit decades ago.
@@joesmith4696 As a long time fan ,it's prettu good. The drummer ,like someone previously said isn't Phil ,due to surgery, and Rich is there,As long as it's the 2 of them there with Billy Gree,it's Kansas. You may not like it,but at least they are involved ,unlike other bands.
The current singer, whose name escaped me at the moment, has a really odd technique. While he does justice to most of the songs, his technique falls short on some songs, especially the Elefante era music. He has a hard time hitting the high notes without effort.
Good job filming this but man the singer is annoying as heck. It’s as tough he’s trying to be like the original singer in the way he moves etc. He should just be himself.
His movement isn’t the annoying part. His vocal technique IS the annoying part. He’s trained by someone who teaches a more modern vocal technique. It sounds awful Walsh was just naturally gifted with that beautiful tone. He is missed. This guy is not good.
Sorry should be, the music of Kansas , by Phil Hart and tribute band. These guys are talented by they are NOT Kansas. Ruins the bands legacy . Of course this is my opinion!!!!
