Rich’s guitar tone is so good . Underrated he really is.

As a lifelong Kansas fan, this was a little hard to watch. Steve, obviously struggling with demons, gutted it out. Thankfully he is clean and hopefully enjoying retirement. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his amazing talent and energy that provided us with some of the most amazing and influential music ever recorded. Today's version of Kansas is a tight, efficient unit that is always musically spot on and never has an off night. Can't wait to see them in May and again in August.

I was given a Kansas album by my relatives who actually live in Kansas for my 15th Birthday. It was the Song For America album (with the Bird of Prey Claws on the cover!). Ever since, I have been hooked. Song for America brings tears to my eyes, especially these days... Stay Safe, everybody...

Kansas has always been a band of true genius. Thanks guys, each member from beginning to end, quite special.

So great...will never be a band like this again

A great voice, but sadly ravaged by a steady flow of chemicals, time, and life on the road. I was one of the 2 Tour Managers for Kansas from 1989-1999 along with Buck Holmes (and won't mention which one), and was running with the Band during this show and this tour. Steve actually was a Health Nut for 2 years before this and I woke him up at 7 am each day and he worked out most mornings. You can see here, he was skinny, but pretty ripped. He got into the coke heavily and was hard to manage. I used to find him sleeping in the closet of our tour bus. I'd load him up on a luggage cart (we took from The Marriott Hotel in Texas) and I'd wheel him through the Hotel, up the elevator, to his room. I put a tarp over the cart so nobody knew he was under there, but he would be blurt out things and screamed crazy things from under the tarp. I would get stares, but it was usually 2 am in the morning. He started getting crazy and wouldn't listen to reason toward the end of the Tour. The Jean Jacket he wore on stage in this video he would wear all the time, with a pair of white running shorts and an Indian Feathered Head Dress and would run around the parking lot. The hotel we stayed at cleaned his jean jacket that he's wearing in this video, and apparently left it in the dryer way too long. It was delivered to his room and it had shrunk to 1/2 it's original size! It used to hang down to the top of his jeans, but look at it HERE, it barely fit! I told him NOT to wear it, but he wouldn't listen to me and after a bottle of Jack and a 1/2 gram of coke, he snuck out on stage blown out of his mind, wearing the Jean Jacket the Hotel left in the Dryer too long, and consequently shrunk TWO Sizes Too Small! That's why I always Laugh when I see this video! Great Guy Steve was and we had an Absolute Blast, it was a magical time I will always cherish! But I wish I could have kept the group going for longer. Whenever he would look at me and say, "I want to Kiss the White Capped Mountain Tops Pappy", that was CODE for I better have some fresh "Powder" ready to go in the dressing room. Steve gave me that Jean Jacket at the end of the tour, and when I had my first son, he would run around the house at age 5, wearing Steve's Famous Jean Jacket. It always put a Smile on my Face!

As a soul that lived through this time, I know the things that were present and the pitfalls that consumed so many wonderful people. I, too, imbibed these drugs but fortunately, I was able to sidestep all the awful things that befell so many. It was a heady time. I enjoyed my drugs. Cocaine was lotsa fun. It was also hell for many people that couldn't handle it. I lost a lot of friends to it. I was able to walk away unscathed for the most part, but so many were not able to. I feel for them. Especially the musicians. Too much money and not enough sense to keep their heads. I can't help but forgive them. If not for the love of a good woman, I too might have succumbed. Have some compassion if you weren't there. We are all human... Kansas is and was always one of my favorite bands, and Steve was amazing despite his issues. We are all blessed for his presence.. If you don't think so...well, that's your right. But you might be wrong. Love you Kansas!

As an old school fan, I can say this...Rich's guitar is tasty and a bit evolved. As a drummer , I always love Eharts work. Thanks Kansas.

A lot of responsibility fell on Rich after the loss of Livgren and Morse. He is incredible! One of my heros 👍

I saw Kansas three times in 1992-93 playing small clubs/bars. It was almost sad to see them sink to that level, but similarly unbelievable to pay a $20 cover to be 5 feet from the stage with drinks in both hands seeing my favorite band. 30 years later (9/17/22) I paid $125 for 4th row to see them in a 2,500 seat mostly full theater and they were amazing. Ronnie does Steve's vocals proud and hits all the notes. So happy for their success and enduring popularity after all these years.

Phil played EXCEPTIONALLY well on this.

Saw them live for this tour. The band was super tight and they played their asses off. Steve Walsh struggled mightily with the vocals but he had a ton of energy and had great stage presence. It was sad to hear his voice so badly damaged. Was very fortunate to see them open for Bad Company in 1976, just months before Left Overture was released. It was a mind blowing performance and have been a fan since that day. The set list was Song for America, Icarus - Borne on Wings of Steel, Down the Road, Belexes, Drum Solo, Guitar Solo, Child of Innocence, Bringing it Back and Can I Tell You.

Got to see them play 2 shows in a row (in one night) just 5 months before this show, in San Diego. Great shows, both of them. Phil Ehart's mother was there, and she was just as nice as you'd expect. My buddy asked her for her autograph, and I think she liked that.

For all you genius critics who are saying Steve Walsh’s voice is shot or blown out by too much blow should listen to his voice on his newest (2018) solo album “Black Butterfly” or his recent collaboration with Jerome Mazza. I think he needed a rest. These guys played a dance at my high school in 1972 Steve deserves a break.

Great to see the 2 “new” guys, David Ragsdale & Billy Greer are still with the band today. Phil Ehart has always been a solid, drum groove machine.

That violin/guitar solo that Rags plays at 55:25 is just amazing. It shows just how good of a musician he really is. And until lately, he didn't even play much guitar in the band. He's got his own album out, too. Check it out. It's great. He's not just a violin player, folks.

I don’t understand, if so many comment on his blown out voice and drug issues…. Why do you watch? If it bothers you then just walk on and watch something else. Humans aren’t instruments or computers….Whether it’s a past drug and alcohol issue or being Sick the night of a show, voices fail. Watching the mastery of the musicians and Steve’s stage presence, the focus on the imperfect vocal just falls away. Yes I know…. “He’s high” okay and so was most of entertainers in that era! Actually many still are! Dugs just change as the years change. Focus on the positive…… 🙏

Wow texas axe slinger now i know why when i saw Kansas about 1979 80 ish i could not believe the energy Steve displayed on stage. He did a hand stand on the keys i mean completly vertical i was blown away i had never seen a band so Tight and Musical in my life. I will never forget how amazing They were. Snow or not these Men could not be touched by Anyone except for Rush but thats comparing apples and oranges. The most talented Musicians i ever witnessed.

During the era when Steve was struggling, his voice was shot. I saw them in a small bar in a suburban strip mall around this time. I had kind of lost track of Kansas in the mid 80s with the band changes, it was confusing and I wasn't too crazy about the albums coming out. So I went more out of curiosity. About 500 people at most packed into this bar. I couldn't believe they were playing at this place. The last times I had seen them in the late 70s (Point and Monolith) and early 80s (Audiovisions) they were selling out college campus arenas and 18,000 seat hockey arenas. Then this strip mall bar. It surely had to be one of Kansas' low points.

I saw this promo-ish tour at a large patio stage, outdoor bar and grill joint in Htown. Really rocking and was nice to witness most of the original band together.

Love Kansas! Love their music. I knew Greg Roberts and his family down in Georgia. He got into real estate and sold my house for me after he left the band, and we became good friends with his family. His children came to my house and played with my children, his son was in the same class as my daughter and his daughter was in the same class as my son. He was a really nice guy. But I've lost touch with them over the years and I also moved to another state. I wish him and his family well.

I don't know what you're listening, but the band here is kicking ass! And ok, Steve Walsh is struggling at times. If I had a dime for a singer that is struggling live... Ok he's high, but I don't know many drunken people do the athletics he does at the beginning of" Carry on my wayward son".

i remember seeing Aerosmith in 1983 and the whole band was so high they couldn't stand up. Twice I saw Ozzy Osbourne so screwed up he couldn't remember the words to his songs. I went to the US Festival in 1983 and saw a drunk David Lee Roth get so wasted he forgot the words to his songs and could hardly stand up, but the fans loved that show especially when he bashed The Clash. I saw Eric Moore of The Godz pop a couple of Quaaludes one night and they had to carry him off stage. I could list many more. Then there was Jim Morrison who would get so drunk that he once passed out before the show even started and Ray M had to sing for The Doors. Keith Moon took so much animal tranquilizer at The Cow Palace one night that they had to carry him off-stage and recruit a fan out of the audience to play drums for the rest of the show. Practically, all the great rock n' rollers have embarrassed themselves one time or another so why do Kansas fans want to harp about this particular show all the time and demonize Steve Walsh for snorting cocaine and having an off night. At least Steve could remember the words and do hand stands on his keyboards. Furthermore, I find it hard to believe that cocaine alone killed Steve's voice. Most of the rock stars of the 70's and 80's abused cocaine and some of them still sound remarkably well ie Don Henley and Tommy Shaw to name a couple. I'm just glad that Kansas had a Steve Walsh. If it wasn't for Steve's wonderful voice, most of us probably would have never heard of Kansas.

Loved Kansas all my life but never had chance to see them, Britain has never been high on their touring schedule. The negative comments on this gig? F#*k I'd have given anything to see this or any other gig by this awesome band. Steve Walsh and Kansas have been a major part of my musical life and always will be.

Wow amazing. Around this time I saw them and Steve was jumping all over everything i couldn't believe what I saw I was like if an old guy like that (maybe 10 or so over me) could jump and dance , love this as much as he did I could love it 10x or more so time more!!! Great band great shows!

I saw Kansas many times from The Leftoverture album forward, right up to 2017 after Steve's departure, when the band toured with Styx. The last time I saw them with w Steve, I left depressed at how horrible his voice had become. Steve is my favorite Classic Rock vocalist, his voice was beautiful. Hope he's loving retirement. Carry on.

Reminds me - I need to listen to 1995's Freaks Of Nature again. What a hard rocking Kansas album. It blew me aways when it came out.

Steve's high energy level def makes up for the vocal issues and I agree with you about this one being outstanding. Steve puts his heart into every performance... I watched a full concert of the Freaks of Nature tour and was literally blown away, and that was 3 years after this one. As far as I'm concerned Steve's work is never disappointing. Go Steve - you rock!!

Barn Hill Arena, Fayetteville Arkansas 1981 Loverboy opened up, putting on a hell of an act, at one point the whole crowd was standing on their feet.. then.. Kansas, wow. hands down one of the best rock and roll shows I've been to in my LifeSteve Walsh was doing handstands on his keyboard throwing sweat from his head in huge sprays, I'll never forget.. long live them boys called Kansas! They did that name proud.

Steve has been my Vocal mentor & Phil on Drums and been there done that" Not at your best because of a medicinal distraction, but you still hear that incredible voice and stage presence behind it still shine! The rest of the Band playing everything just like the record and always impressive to see LIVE. I had the opportunity to talk to Phil and a hello to Rich/Steve as the get ready for Sound Check for about three minutes! I had a gig in a large tent on the other side of Waterside Park in Norfolk, Va. That gave me access to the rear entrance of the tent next to Phils drums 6-8 ft. away! So Cool!

I remember driving with some friends past the Whisky on the night this was filmed (almost exactly 30 years ago to the day as I write this), seeing the line outside , and debating whether or not to go get a ticket. I decided against it, so I'm grateful it was filmed. Still it would have been a memorable show to see in person, to say the least.

I've been practicing my craft/vocals since I was 15 (now 52), but to have a few or more vocal lessons from Steve Walsh, would be insanely awesome!

I've been lucky enough to see these guys a few times back in the day. Once with the original Leftoverature line up. Then in the early 90's. While the bamd kicked ass, Steve was definitely struggling. We saw them at the Grizzly Rose in Denver around that time. I wasn;t sure if Steve was going to make it through the show. I don't wan't to rip on him. I still think he is one of the greatest vocalist in one of the greatest bands ever.They're in my top five of favorite bands. I saw them many years later in my home town of Cheyenne, WY. They drew a huge crowd as it was Frontier Days. Steve was very subdued and just stayed back at his keyboeards for the most part. They were on it and so was Steve. He sounded great. It was the last time I saw them with Steve and Robbie. It was a great show. I wiah all of them the best. They were one of the greatest influences on me as a musician along with Rush, Jethro Tull, and many others progressive bands. No matter what you think of the R&R hall of fame, they should be in it. With all the vocal issues Steve Walsh was having, I enjoyed the ending of PONR, bad ass! Helluva performance, such a great band! Kansas ROCKS! 🥰🤟🎤🎸🎹🎼🥁🎻

I was living in LA in 92. I was plugged into the music business. How I missed this concert this concert I'll never know.

I saw this tour, in '92, I had to see them. Finally! One of my top 10 vocalists ever, and I'm gonna get to see them! They were playing in Glendale, AZ and I was so stoked. Trivial note: I never knew Williams is about 11 foot 9 inches. The band played great but ....Steve was off, and it seemed that on a couple of occasions band members were having a quick convo with him to take it down a notch. But I'm glad I got to see them. I loved Kansas, and Steve's still in my top 10.

If you buy the DVD live at whiskey, Steve sang over the tracks when his voice was better. Sometimes he didn't take care of his gift. I love him and he'll always be my favorite. Billy is my Brother from another mother. They still rock today and Ronnie's voice gets better all the time. Steve did an album Black Buterfly with Jerome Mazza. Jerome should have replaced Steve. His voice blows Ronnie's away. Ronnie gives you a good performance. However there is only one Steve Walsh. If you have had the gift of seeing him in his prime you'll never forget it.

Yes, Steve Walsh was interviewed in recent years, stating that he was exhausted and his voice was shot on this concert. He was pretty much just trying to get through the show. As a full-time performer myself, I’ve been through this! It can be harrowing. But STILL that is no detraction from Steve Walsh‘s amazing talent, power, and excessive achievement as an artist! I will always consider Steve Walsh one of my all-time musical heroes!

Saw Kansas in this era. Great show. Steve is a showman extreme. Glad some of his band mates stuck with him through his difficulties. Performers are good people in my book.

i never had problems with this album i loved it in 1992 i buyed ut in rome where i am from no worry for vocals as many said, it was a very hot live album for its time you have to consider that

Steve Walsh even though here doesn't sing at His standards, but still he sings Great.....no matter what, when you have a Huge Talent as he has, it comes through even in the worst case scenario. God bless Him, .....what a Singer anyways. C.A.😀😀😀👍👍👍

I was there, front row to the left in the purple shirt. Me and my buddy Casey, seen during the ending of The Wall, had a great time. I caught Steve when he fell backward into the crowd and pushed him back onto the stage. There is nothing like seeing your favorite band in the front row, rocking with them all night long! We even met Kerry and hung out with him a bit after the show. A night I'll always remember!

I am a big Kansas fan and from St Joseph where Steve is from. This video is very embarrassing. He was totally wasted during this. Im glad that he is better now. it was a long time ago and we all have done things we regret. Thank goodness we didnt lose him because of the drugs and alcohol.
