I truly enjoyed spending time with you, your daughter and friends. I loved every minute of it! Liked and subscribed and now to watch a couple of more vids. God bless and happy hunting!
I love the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant shotshells 12ga 2 3/4” , I like the #4, 1450 ft/sec for wild pheasants in North Dakota. Especially on a windy day. I will typically use Cylinder, and Modified in my O/U with my GSPs
I LOVE that you're out there with your daughter!! You'd be better suited upland hunting with a double-gun anyway. Save those semis for waterfowling. Glad to see you switch over to that 687. At 7:07 in this vid, you shot REALLY close to that Brittany. This is just another reason why pointing dogs should be "steady". It's only one of many good reasons but it's a HUGE one. No sure why you don't see properly trained pointing dogs much anymore? Let me take you and your daughter out for Bobs/pheasants so she can see how it is done. 😉 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Yeah scenting conditions were horrible on this hunt. Typically he’s solid as a rock, when he can actually smell them. He’s a two time field trial champion so he really shines in that world. Them wild birds can be a little tricky at times! 😂 That’s a tempting offer btw! We’re always looking for new spots and good people to enjoy the outdoors with! Where are you located?
@@nickmasseyoutdoors I'm not a local but I hunt Kansas for Bobs/pheasants/chickens as well as a number of other states for wild Huns, sharp-tail, grouse, woodcock, chukar, etc. You can't reward a dog for breaking and then expect him to hold point. I've developed a number of FT champions too but ALL my gun dogs are steady because it is advantageous for hunting, on many levels. Shooting - whether you hit or miss - is a REWARD to your dog when he breaks. You can't reward breaking and then expect him to stick his finds.
@@shug2795 That’s great! We may be heading to either KS or SD next week. Not sure which one yet. I definitely am more lenient when it comes to wild bird hunting. Probably more so in situations when we have conditions like on this hunt. We were lucky to bag the birds we did. I’m definitely all about putting birds in the bag/on the table kinda guy. 😂 they’re too tasty to let the fly away without taking a shot.
I have the same gun. After 1,500 rounds the action wears out. The new action I got started jamming, because a pin was backing out of it. I put some 2 part epoxy on it and that fixed the problem. Now it shoots great.
Yeah i discovered that the root cause of my cycling malfunctions were actually due to the ammo. In that particular batch of shells the hulls weren’t trimmed back properly so after firing the end of the hulls would get hung up. It cycles all other loads perfectly so far, but I’ll definitely keep an eye out on the pins! Thanks for watching!
You have the right combination of choke and shot size. You keep within the gun's capabilities. Open choke, smaller shot, rely on light pattern density rather than tight, dense patterns and big shot. These birds have to be eaten, right? Well done!
...great video spending time with your daughter...brings back so many memories of time with my daughter...a question about your beretta 687 ...I have been considering a 28 ga. for some time now and am convinced after this video that is the gun I want ...I am primarily a chukar hunter and think it will do the job on chukar as well ...my question is about the gun itself...can you tell me what engraving does the 687 silver pigeon 3 have on it...Berettas web site doesn't show the 28 ga. and customer service is no help either...I would really like to know the game scene engraving before I order this gun...any information would be appreciated ...thanks in advance...
The 28 should do great on Chukar! I’ve only shot pen raised Chukar but it did great out to 40 yards. I got my 28 from Joel Etchen Guns online. I bought mine as a 2 barrel set with a set of .410 barrels too. I believe the game scene on mine has woodcock on one side and quail flushing on the other. On Joel’s site he has great hd pictures of all his inventory. I bought the sporting model instead of the field model. Just my preference since i shoot clays too. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@@nickmasseyoutdoors ...thanks for your reply that information definitely helps...does your sporting model have a 30 inch barrels and are the barrels vented for use on clays...???...I was after a 28 inch set up but would consider the 30 inch...the joel etchens site is great ...thanks again...!!!
@@danielmasset4153 i do have the 30” sets with vented ribs. They also have the mid beads on both barrels. I like the longer barrels personally for better pattern consistency. I find that I’m able to use a more open choke with less holes in my pattern with the longer barrels
@@nickmasseyoutdoors ....I found a 28 ga. with a 30 inch barrel at a local store in the 686 version ( wanted the 687) it has phenomenal wood on it and would get it just for the quality of the wood ...I was thinking the 30 in might be too slow for chukar but I think the gun is light enough it would compensate for the extra length...thanks again for the info it has been a big help in my decision making...
Yes, I shoot Comp-N-Chokes! I shot them when competing with Team USA and still love them to this day! I would recommend them to anyone who wants to up their game in clays or bagging more birds in the field! Solely my opinion as I’m not sponsored by them.
Haha! It does look like one! It’s a ShotKam though. I had just gotten it right before that hunt and didn’t really know how it worked so I didn’t get any shots captured with it.
