We were fortunate enough to share the last day of crane season with Stephen Dieb, owner of Longneck Outfitters, shooting sub gauges at prehistoric birds. Folks often believe they need the biggest, hardest-hitting load out there to bring these pterodactyls down, but we had great success with 28 and 20 gauges, all shooting shot sizes smaller than 6s. Then again, when birds are right in your face as they were this day, one could argue a bayonet would have sufficed. Either way, it was a wonderful experience paired with great people and top notch hospitality, and we won’t soon forget it!
