It's one of my favorite tracks on donda. Notes sound dark and menacing. Has this rhythm to it makes me move even with lack of drums. Plus I love the raw nature of the pop smoke vocal sounds eerie. Wish people would stop writing it off this track survived all the listening parties it wouldn't take a min to add drums but they chose not to. Jay's verse sounded a bit awkward to me on first listen because of his flow choice, but man I totally disagree with that being a bad verse. "On my cell, in my cell tonight / Don't have to see you to touch you / This is what braille look like, it's on sight". And the opening part: "Hol' up, Donda, I'm with your baby when I touch back road / Told him, "Stop all of that red cap, we goin' home" / Not me with all of these sins, castin' stones". I have very high respect for you guys and love listening to your reviews, the conversational aspect makes it really entertaining and insightful, whether or not I agree with your opinions. However, this review felt lazy and like none of you wanted to be here. You all seem to have listend to the album only once (some of your comments straight up say so), misatribute songtitles to the wrong songs (which track did you think Pop Smoke was on exactly?), you all don't talk about the highlights (not 'my personal' highlights, but there seems to be consenus amongst listeners like how Jesus Lord is fire and you just kind of skimmed it). You also did not talk about context or even seemed to have done any kind of research. Just sort of listened to it once in the background or in the car and went in for the review. If you don't want to review the album, just don't review it. I can respect that. But this was not the level we've come to expect. I've seen better (I mean more thorough, not higher scoring) reviews for Donda from people that are way less into the culture and are usually not nearly as articulate as you all are. Love your channel, really enjoy your work, but I feel like this should have been a more thoughtful review, or you should've skipped it.

I personally love the album. At worst, I can see people getting turned off by the first 3 tracks for various reasons (the first song is a chant, the beat doesn’t build in Jail, the third song sounds like a Yeezus leftover with too long of an outro), which might give them a bad taste going forward. But Off the Grid and Hurricane should get you right back on track and set you in for the rest of the album. Like how can you listen to the album and not vibe to more than half the songs, especially since the features pretty much all give career-level performances over solid production.

If he stuck to those 7 tracks plus Donda Chant and put the effort to production like he did with MBDTF then this could have maybe been great and an actual tribute album. This didn't sound like a tribute album; it was all over the place with no theme. Jail was ok but Jay could have done better just like how he did for CLB. While I think this is nowhere near classic, I do believe this is a good album. It's still bloated like all double-disc albums, and to me, it's more impressive that Kanye can reinvent himself constantly over and over again. When it comes his personal views, that doesn't matter to me because I like Kanye West for his art and always will.

Tbh I think a lot more artists could reinvent themselves effectively if they tried. Instead most often most artist are more interested in riding a wave to play it safe and get paid. In addition to that, there's quite a few artists outside of hiphop that are constantly trying to push the boundaries of sound to its limits. Kanye just happens to be unafraid to bring it to the world of hiphop (if that's what you even wanna call it at this point). All that said, I don't particularly like most of these tracks. I listen to a lot of different music so I'm not one to fall for the notion of loving something just because it's "different." The thing about getting experiemental is that there's a fine line to getting it right, and for my ears sonically, a lot of Donda was close but no cigar.

I’ve been watching DEHH for 7 years now, the last review I disagreed with this much was their rodeo review. I don’t think this album is bad, it’s a good album. There’s at least 10-12 songs I think are really good. Did not like the Pop Smoke and Chris Brown song at all. They didn’t like Moon? Jail, Off the Grid, Praise God, Hurricane, Jonah, Believe What I Say, 24, Moon, Jesus Lord, Keep My Spirit Alive, Come to Life and No Child Left Behind were good songs. Obviously it’s their opinion and I respect that I’m just surprised at the songs they did like. I think this is a 7/10 album with the potential to be a 9/10 with some trimming and more mixing.

No matter how the guys feel I respect it. For me I LOVE this album, it's weird, personal, and I feel it gives me more insight into how Kanye feels about his faith and love for his mother. This felt like a darker twisted version of TLOP. Starting off melancholy in some songs, dark on others and progressively getting more positive and lighter. Yes it's messy, self indulgent, and odd ball in the usual Kanye fashion, but personally it is one of my favorite albums from him. 808s walked so songs like "Come To Life" could run. Off The Grid, Jonah, Believe What I say, 24, and Heaven and Hell are other tracks I really loved.

DEHH puts emphasis on the rapping, verses and lyrics. They're a hiphop channel. They judge albums by that standpoint. Kanye hasn't really made traditional rap albums since MBTDF. He's more in the pop & avant-garde experimental music space; more concerned with how songs are sonically, artistically and their overall mood.
@ilovecody7514
@ilovecody7514 2 года назад
@@DS-ff6ze I wholeheartedly agree, and never made a statement saying otherwise. For me I really feel like lyrically Ye was on point from the perspective if you read into the concept there were so many references to his mother and faith that you could tell what his intent was behind this record. Was it still messy? Yes, on the surface it definitely seems as discombobulated as Kanye seems at times. But for me as I pay attention lyrically to the theme and how it may be important to the concept I just really like how personal the record is. Nothing more nothing less. I don't really think this album will change anything personally. Or make Kanye haters feel any different about him, but I like the mark this leaves on his legacy. Despite how this record in particular garnered a lot of hate.
@DS-ff6ze
@DS-ff6ze 2 года назад
@@ilovecody7514 I agree. Many people want Kanye to put another polished rap album like MBDTF. But from Kanye's perspective he already did that. And he's bored by that. He finds more fulfillment in experimenting with new genres and styles.
@ilovecody7514
@ilovecody7514 2 года назад
@@DS-ff6ze Yeah, you can tell Kanye personally wants to push himself more as a vocalist ever since 808s this has been apparent. And it's not like ever since the start of his career he hasn't been experimenting with his vocals, and the other artists he brings on. He's been giving hints on every record to some extent where he plans to go. Though the hints can be small they are very apparent. Especially when you look at his discography as a whole. It's not even like I love all his choices either, but I can respect the risks as whole with time even if I still feel the same later because of the context added. It's so interesting to me how Kanye is one of the few hip hop artists in the mainstream that is like this. Especially with how he commits to what he wants even if I don't always feel it was the best decision.
